Like Risso as someone in middle age just the other side of 50 I started doing Couch to 5k on 1 Jan. After 3 months of solid slog did a 5k in 26:35 yesterday. Quite chuffed and I’m amazed at the change in my outlook and general state of mind. I’ve never been the greatest of Runners/joggers, I prefer biking, but really enjoying it. Next challenge is to try and get to 25:00 and carry on the gradual weight loss. Oh and well done Risso.

Oh and well done Risso.Being of an age where I started going down the Villa in 1972, never being able to run (except in short bursts away from West Ham and Bristol City fans), smoking until 3 years ago, eating/drinking far too much, I started jogging at the beginning of the lockdown - I managed to jog/walk my first couple of 5km last week. I’m trying to get inside 30 mins which I will see as a massive personal achievement ... I satisfy myself by knowing I can jog 5km quicker than I can swim 2km ... which cheered me up.

I've gone and put my sodding back out. Again. 😩

However I’m due to do a duathlon in October so have now interspersed the running with trying to get my bike miles up! To say it’s been a shock to the system doing run one day and bike the next for the last couple of weeks would be an understatement, I feel very heavy legged and it’s obviously having an impact going into a heavy load of mixed event training. Still did my long run at 11.8k this morning and felt good so it’s all heading in the right direction. And agree on the flat course for a fast time, my current 5k course only undulates by 4m max up or down from start to finish. Good luck all.
