One thing that stands out in my memory is the full picnic we took into the game (not unusual at sporting events back then). It was a baking hot day and my dad decided that it was a good idea to pack some particularly ripe smelling Stilton cheese. It was a good job that the stands weren't very full, so people around us had plenty of room to move away.

I'll be in New York for the Giants vs Redskins game at the Metlife Stadium on 29th Sept. Looking at buying tickets but they are very expensive so could do with some advise. Ticket prices range from $115 to $545, but I'm not a big NFL so would rather not pay for the expensive tickets...we're mainly going for the atmosphere and just to see an NFL game in an amazing stadium!

The ticket and stadium plan is here: Giants vs Redskins Tickets

I was thinking about blocks 301 or 326 up in the gods behind the goal for $115. Would these be a good view and atmosphere or are they too far from the pitch and atmosphere? Is it worth paying more than $115 for a ticket?

Any advise appreciated.

I recommend sitting behind the goal.

I've watched NFL games from various angles over the years but have now settled for mid/upper level End Zone.

I've not been to MetLife Stadium, so can't offer any specific advice

Sounds like we have the same taste UKR! I sit at the back of the Holte and sat in a similar seat at the Camp Nou, so makes sense to do the same at the Metlife...especially considering the extortionate prices! My thinking is also that you get to see and understand player and team movement better from a higher perspective.

Weirdly, for football I prefer sitting on the side and low down. My seat at Villa Park is behind the dugouts

36 years ago today I attended my first NFL game, Vikings v Cardinals pre-season at the old Wembley

I was at that too. Huge punt return by the Vikings and Tommy Kramer running the game. It was better than most England games I saw at Wembley in the 80s.

You must be fairly close to my brother, that's where he and a couple of his mates are.
No where near me, though. Back of the North

Just bought tickets for New York Giants vs Washington Redskins at Metlife Stadium...my first ever NFL game! Buzzin! :D

Found they sell resale tickets so got 2 tickets behind the endzone in upper tier for $81 each + fees so not bad at all.

Cheers CD. I have no idea what the teams are like now but the Giants and Redskins were always 2 of the better teams when I was kid watching on tv...I'm sure it's going to be awesome and the stadium looks mindblowing!

Redskins should be the better team, although RB Saquon Barkley is very good for the Giants.

It's only in week four so you're guaranteed, at least, that each side will still have something to play for. With it being a divisional rivalry it should be great, even if the teams aren't!

Well jel.

I will get to Soldier Field one day...

So how does pre season work as just noticed The Bears got hammered but with no starters actually playing ? Do they not bother with actual match practice like our football teams do ?

The first couple of games they tend to try out a few fringe players to see if they're good enough. The final game they usually rest most of the elite players so that they're fully fit for the first week of the proper season. The third preseason game, ie the next one, is when you are most likely to see the first choice stars. Even then, probably for only half a game maximum.

I'd expect the Bears (and Green Bay) to be especially reluctant to play starters as their season starts before everybody else, on a Thursday night (early Friday morning our time).

It's not the same for everyone and some seem to take preseason more seriously than others. I rember during the 2000s the Colts would seem to always lose all four preseason games then be Super Bowl contenders, while others look great in the friendlies then do fuck all when it all starts.

Long story short: nobody really cares about preseason and it's a travesty that season ticket holders are forced to pay to attend said games.
