7 games in 22 days
« on: September 11, 2024, 09:32:08 PM »
The international break has made the start of the season feel like a false start.
From Saturday the games come thick and fast, 7 in 23 days.

Everton (H)
Young Boys (A) CL
Wolves (H)
Wycombe (A) LC
Ipswich(A)
Bayern Home(H) CL
Man U (H)

We will probably be odds on favourites in the first 5 games finishing with two high profile home fixtures.

There is then another two week break before we embark (if we have got past Wycombe) on 7 games in 22 days.

If we don't win all 7 games comfortably I'm going to blame Chris Heck. It's his fault for removing the feel-good factor around Villa Park.

We'll probably win the first 6 then somehow lose to a lacklustre Newton Heath

I would take that right now.

The draw was unexpected Vs Ipswich so perhaps then we'll take the Win v Man Utd!

Yep, which ironically could lead to Yanited taking Ipswich's manager off them.

Lock the thread.
Its over.

November schedule is going to be insane. Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool all away in that month and two more CL games.

Feels like December is when we really get the season going, plenty of winnable home games in that month.

Two wins and two draws in the league, a win in the league cup, and two wins in the Champions League.  I think most of us would have snapped somebody's hand off for those results 23 days ago, so I think we have to be pleased (no matter the disappointment at not beating Man Utd today)

Yep, on paper we could lose a little ground in November, only to storm back into it in December.  4 points from Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool would be good going.

I wouldn't have snapped your hand off for draws against Ipswich and Man U, at all.

There is then another two week break before we embark on 7 games in 22 days.

Fulham (A)
Bologna (H)
Bournemouth (H)
Palace (H)
Spurs (A)
Brugge (A)
Liverpool (A)

At the end of this little lot we can still be in touch with top 4 in the league, odds on for top 8 in CL, and two ties from a Wembley final.

Have you sat down on your bureau plat and dipped the quill in the pot to let Heck know of your anger?

Well, no, but that's why I didn't list the individual results, but the aggregate of 5 wins and 2 draws from the next 7 games, instead. Which, regardless of how you look at it, is a pretty good return from that run of games.

If we have the same return from each chunk of 7 games for the rest of the season we'd probably win every tournament we're in!

Context is important. Today was crap, and hugely disappointing not to beat a team who were there for the taking - but for the final game in a run of 7 games with a game every three and a bit days, it actually means we've ended that run unbeaten, and with a very good return of points and wins.

I'm disappointed with today, but delighted with the run of 7 games we've had.
