I missed the "cryptic post-match comments" about Mings. Would someone please enlighten me? Thank you!

Gerrard said a few things but what seems to have gained traction is his comment that Mings needed to "look me in the eye" and tell him that he was ready to play/should be in the team.

If true he should be saying it to Mings behind closed doors not to a journalist.

That's right.

Top managers always make their criticisms behind closed doors, not to the press.

If Gerrard had said something along the lines of "i want players to show me that they deserve to be in the team by producing it in training" that would be fine and players would know who he was referring to. But naming names in a post match interview just isn't good form. Hopefully it's not a sign of behind the scenes unrest in a season that promises so much and one in which the owners will be expecting maybe even demanding significant progress. They have plunged a fortune into the club and will rightfully be expecting it.

The management team are ultimately responsible for good team morale, if SG thinks it necessary to comment on Tyrone Mings commitment it means he isn’t convinced for whatever reason. If Tyrone needs motivating in a WC year it’s not a good look.  I hope for all of us this is resolved soon.
