Thanks John I enjoyed reading that. In these days of a specialist coach for everything,I get quite nostalgic for the winter days when the away side would shuffle onto the pitch an hour before kick-off in their travelling suits to inspect the quagmire that was Villa Park at the time. A quick wander around, the odd dig in of a heel and back to the dressing room. That was the last we would see of them until just before 3:00pm.

Excellent article.Usually early in the season ,with decent weather and therefore decent pitches,you would get a picture of some Villa players standing around the halfway line at the previous away fixture.Often one of the players was carrying a programme,perhaps checking if he was playing or working out who he'd be facing.
