Postponed Games
« on: March 04, 2020, 12:16:21 AM »
With Sheff U & Newcastle both winning, we currently only have 2 games left this month with a 2 week break following.

Looks like one of the weeks is an international break as well - Not ideal.

Personally, I'd try to get the Sheff U game in for Tuesday 17 March - Not sure if that's possible.  Failing that, we could end up playing 6 games in April.

More time for McGinn to recover and play in them games though.

Yep, as things stand we have a 3 week gap in between games followed by 6 games in a month. I get the point about McGinn being back but that’s far from ideal.

Blades now have 5 games in April so you would expect they would want to get this played.
A fixture build up can work both ways if you get some good momentum but can really fuck things up as well.

Whatever the gap in games, my immediate concern is how well the coaching team can use it to (i) improve our defending; (ii) improve our ability to press; (iii) re-integrate SJM into the side; (iv) develop a Samatta / Davis striking axis; and  (v) develop a winning mentality.

Not asking too much, am I?!

Now that Sheffield Utd and Newcastle are in the FA Cup quarter finals, an ideal date for one of those games would be either March 17th or 18th as they could be distracted, but that will be too short-notice I suspect.

Another option is that if Man U reach the semis, our game against them will be cancelled.  Worst case scenario, all 3 games would have to be re-arranged but it could be that we play one of Sheff U/Newcastle on that date.  Still would leave us with having to re-arrange 2 games mind.

Newcastle most likely of the two as they're due to play Man. City that weekend.

We can't play Sheff Utd that weekend... they're due to play Wolves who are already out. So they'll either be against Wolves, or still in the cup.

Newcastle is possible as they have Man City that weekend. So we could play Newcastle if they avoid Man City, get knocked out, and both the Manchester clubs avoid each other and go through.

I’m hoping for the Sheff U game midweek between Manu and Palace, three home games in a week.

Could well be Newcastle on April 18th then? (Back to 3.00 Saturday)  Be great if we can keep that trip to a Saturday.

United have 2 winnable games in order to reach the semis.

Or would Sky just keep it as the Sunday live game?
