Venglos's exit from villa must be one of the least talked about among supporters. I'm sure he wasn't actually sacked so i'm assuming he resigned but didn't say why.

He was officially shunted into a non-job - Head of European Operations or something like that, but I doubt he ever did any work and it was never mentioned again. I suppose his departure was relatively quiet because everyone knew he was off and too many were secretly (or not so secretly) glad that one of those foreigners had been sent packing and English football had shown it had nothing to learn.

I remember this one because I went on the Travellers club being a 15 year old. I was sat next to Wolfie who never sat still on the way there. The game was a joke, how we lost I don't know, we battered them but they scored each time they went forward it seemed.

They were a jinx team then and have been since.

I was home on "leave" from Aus and went the match.  How we lost I will never know.  Typical Villa

I was at this one too, couldnt find my mates mini for ages afterward. Cant recall too much about the game but did meet Paul Lake a few months after at Lilleshall where we had an in depth conversation about the incident.

'I was at the game where you did your leg Paul, how is it'
'Getting better thanks mate'

I dont think he ever played again so when I think of him I just think 'why did he lie to me?'

Lake's book is well worth a read and is a sad indictment of the medical care of the day from footy clubs. Wouldnt happen today.

I doubt he was lieing to you since he thought he would be back initially within 6 weeks and then by the end of the season. Only played a handful of games thereafter. Was being compared to Gascoigne at the time

Always remember Spurs at home that season, Platt scored a hat-trick. Luton at home also when Mark Pembridge scored probably the best goal I;ve seen at VP by an away side.

I remember that goal. Neil Ruddock of all people scored a screamer for Millwall at VP but it was over shadowed by Rambo's goal.

Yes Spurs at home, Platt got a hatrick to put us 3-0 up then, Villa being Villa let two goals in well into the second half leaving us ten minutes to hang on.
