The Christmas Truce
« on: December 15, 2014, 02:16:44 PM »

"fancy a German shaking your flapper as though he was trying to smash your fingers and then a few days later trying to plug you" - Herbert Smart, Aston Villa player (just the one appearance, mind)

I found it hard not to read that quoted sentence in the voice of Hugh Laurie's character in Blackadder Goes Forth

Saw something on the news a couple of weeks ago about the truce.  A historian was saying that the football game didn't really take place as since suggested, rather some British soldiers (Warwickshire Regiment) had a kickabout while German soldiers watched on.

Yes, why can't they just waver their union jacks and cheer while young working-class people die for the ruling class's interests?

Despicable!!
