Dave Hickson- RIP
« on: July 09, 2013, 03:37:46 PM »
Former Everton and Aston Villa footballer Dave Hickson has died at the age of 83.

Hickson, who played for the clubs during the 1940s and 1950s, was known as the Cannonball Kid.

Everton club chairman Bill Kenwright led the tributes to his childhood hero, who died on Monday after a short illness. He said he was a "colossus".

Hickson, who scored 111 goals for the Toffees, also had spells with Liverpool and Tranmere Rovers but was best known for his time with Everton.

Having met the man personally I can only endorse what others said about him - he was a gentle giant and bloody nice bloke

Remember a great midweek game v Liverpool,2nd div.59-60. Hickson scored 2 and Liverpool went 4-0 up in the second half but Villa came storming back to make it 4-4 and then in the last few minutes Mcparland missed a sitter, lashing the ball into the Witton End.We won the division and Cardiff also came up. As for Liverpool....

RIP. My now wifes student digs landlord ran the Everton Former Players Association and took me out on the piss a few times when Villa played them, I met Dave Hickson a few times and he was an absolute gent, still a decent player in his 70s as well.
