We play Rosenborg next Weds evening at home if anyone is interested. The last home game against the Turks was a cracking display.

It's great that the young lads are getting this kind of experience.
But I'm kind of surprised the tournament exists, purely from a financial side. It must be quite expensive sending 30-odd member of staff/players to Turkey and Norway (who is the other team in the group) with feck all gate and tv money to make up for it.

I can see what you're saying, but even if it is loss-making I'd rather the club spent it on that than a second string team sent like lambs to the slaughter to a match in Russia with the manager having given up on the competition. Or Habib Beye's wages. We certainly needlessly waste money in other areas of Villa spend at the moment that I think the club should be more wary of.

Agree.
We could have done much more in Europe had MO'N been brave enough to go for it.
It was the one thing that really annoyed me with him.
It would be great to see a big gate at the Rosenburg game.

Anorak time:

This must be the furthest any youth team in the country has traveled for a proper competitive game.

Apart from the Hong Kong 7's every year!

'Proper competitive.' The 7s is a seven-a-side friendly tournament.

A reasonable first half with a sluggish start but sublime in the second half at times.
The last goal was great.

I might go to the Ajax game, do they only open the Lower Trinity?

And here is the current group table.

Getting very excited by the prospect of a few of these players, Burke & Gardner both could get some first team action this season. Johnson, also, has impressed whenever I've seen him play for the reserves or Youth setup.
Maybe we get Gardner in and around the first team squad now, and send the other 2 out on loan?
