Thrilling game but still leaves a bit of a nasty after taste here watching our title bid go up in smoke.

Mountfield O.G. probably got on the scoresheet more times than Cascarino that season.

Nice to see that after all these years though; Villa Park as I like to remember it and one of my favourite kits of all time.

I loved the fact as soon as the ball ended up at Sid's feet, Platt turns and runs into the box confident of the correct ball in from Sid.

I lost pretty much all belief we'd win it after the Wimbledon game.

I agree with all of you, the Wimbledon game set the tone for the run in, we should have won this game vs. Norwich and we should have got Sheringham and not Cascarino. Mountfield did score a few OG's, a bit like Dunne really.

Mountfield didn't have a good game that day.

Think he was struggling with his knee to be fair.

Mountfield didn't have a good game that day.

Think he was struggling with his knee to be fair.

...but according to Graham Taylor he wasn't. I saw Taylor speak at a lunchtime sporting event at the Grand Hotel, Colmore Row a few days after that game. There were journalists present but he stated that everything he said should be 'off the record'. He then went on to say that Mountfield was a 'big softie' who merely used his knee to cover up the fact that he had a poor game. I remember being quite surprised that Taylor would speak about one of his (current) players like that, and lost a bit of respect for him that day, albeit I'm sure I was still chanting his name at the end of the 3-3 draw at Goodison later that week!
