The 1969-70 home kit was shockingly untraditional as Villa, swept up on a wave of new optimism under Tommy Docherty and Doug Ellis, set about moving the club forward into the future, signing young players like the Riochs, Chico, Pat McMahon, etc.
It was so shocking to some (no sky blue sleeves and sky blue shorts) that letters of complaint rolled into the Evening Mail and the club, and as the Doc's team imploded and he was sacked, one of Vic Crowe's first decisions was to bring back the season before's kit to give the fans a lift.
