Traditionally we always wore claret socks, and long may we do so.

No we didn't. We wore them in the late fifties/early sixties then on and off for the past decade. Mostly in the past 50-odd years it's been blue, and sometimes white. Black are the real traditional ones.

Personally, I think that their new socks are pretty sharp.  What is disturbing is the colour of the ball that is being used at this tournament.

For old farts like me the late fifties early sixties are traditional because I was there. I'd guess before then it would be about 50/50 black/claret.  I can still remember the horror of first seeing white socks around the mid sixties.  White socks were only worn at that time by the girls from Handsworth Comprehensive.

Black from 1874-1957 except for 1900-23.

The thread title would make a good name for an album.
