Rostock and Two Smoking Barrels.
« on: June 08, 2025, 09:14:03 PM »
Is anyone going? I’ve no idea about the attractions in this place.  Looks like it’s two hours from Düsseldorf.  Just wondered if anyone had any ideas about what it’s like best travel arrangements etc.

It has been discussed in the Pre-Season thread.

It’s about six hours from Düsseldorf, by train. Hamburg is the best flight destination or Berlin. Just under two hours from Hamburg. Two hours from Berlin. Industrial city with not much to offer tourism wise. They’ve got a nasty bunch of ultras with a bad rep within Germany.

I wonder if Matthias Breitkreutz and/or Stefan Beinlich - the two players who connect the two clubs - will get an invite to the game?

Congratulations on the thread title. The centre of Rostock is nice enough but a day there would be plenty. It's not far from the seaside and there are regular trains.

Let him have this one, he's been overdue a bangin' thread-title since 2011.

Thanks mate.  It’s sounding less attractive by the minute.

Rostock looks fantastic.

There us a seafaring museum housed onboard a cold war ship I intend to visit, and also a Stasi detention centre museum.

I am staying in Berlin and taking the ICE on the morning into Rostock, which is about two hours. The ground is one stop and a short walk from the main train station.

I spent several months in Rostock as a student back in the 90s. It coincided with the time when FC Hansa ("Wir lieben dich total!") were in the 1. Bundesliga, and we went to a few matches at their very old-fashioned, mostly roofless stadium.  I gather they've got a shiny new one these days.

The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region is stunning, incidentally. Definitely explore if you go. The very beautiful island of Ruegen isn't far away.

Long shot but does anybody have suggestions as to where to watch the Lions match on 19th on Rostock. My train arrives at 1130 and it kicks off at 12. Most Irish bars seem to open at 7. It seems a quiet place. May get lucky with my hotel I suppose.
