We played that match as though we wanted to get knocked out of the cup. Abysmal throughout, particularly Kamara. Trying to play out from the back is all well and good if everyone is up for it, but after ten minutes or so too many of out players went missing. It was very, very bad. Surprised we didn't make any changes at half time, it was totally obvious that we were being over run in midfield. Let's hope plan B is incoming.

Great article and it's hard not to be pi**ed off. This defeat really hurts and it's not just because of one thing.
1 - This may be the worst Chelsea have looked in 20 Years, after being totally outclassed by Liverpool and Wolves, but we weren't even close to winning.
2 - The FA Cup draw was trying to give us a relatively easy path to the quarter-finals.
3 - Yesterday I was convinced we would finish no lower than 5th because the Sheff U result showed we are still good enough to get at least 20 points from our remaining fixtures. I think high 60s gets us 5th and 70+ gets us 4th.
4 - I'm now worried that our players are out on their feet and Man Utd now looks a very tough game.

I'm trying to stay positive, but yet again it seems the next match is the most important game of the season.

You’ve captured the shock, amazement and disappointment I felt as the team and performance turned into a bad memory of SG’s last throes and, as you say, this is not the first time this season that we have been apparently riding high and have not turned up.

All I can think of this time is that the combination of players absent has left the team devoid of real leadership on the pitch. I agree with you, it is pretty inexplicable but very Villa.

I see Torres was on the bench so hopefully he and some others will be up for re establishing business as usual on Sunday.

My big worry

League cup - out with a whimper (Its ok we have Europe and FA cup and 4th spot)

FA cup - Out disappointingly (Its ok we still have Europe and 4th sport)

Europe - Hope SUE knock out skills come to the fore

4th spot - really hope we dont let the pundits smirk and say "Told you so"
