Surely the club should be looking to buy this & give it him back

https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/graham-budd-auctions-ltd/catalogue-id-srgrah10060/lot-ec94b8a8-37b8-48be-ba7b-b0b60168d874?queryId=a6bed3efef50841445aecf089b344083&fbclid=IwAR37XP_XM4ECyQJ5dBI91QnUiw4XkgcDo1TD2oys1lw7XvGw0d37KXE9bYc

First, if they do it for him they'd have to do it for everyone. Second, sometimes players would rather sell their memorabilia than have their children fight over them.

I don't think they have to do it for every ex-player, but shirts worn when we actually won a trophy? What would it really cost them to buy all the shirts (if the players still have them?) from the European Cup final? If this one has a guide price of £4-6k it's probably what, £100-150k? That's a week's wages for whichever striker we sign next.

I'm not saying throw money at one of Steve Hodge's 1985 home shirts, but if a player has actually won something for us, and the shirt is available, I don't see why it can't be bought to go up in the club somewhere?

I totally agree with this.

I haven’t even kept the clothes I wore in Rotterdam, why on earth would I want somebody else’s that wouldn’t even fit me?

Most of our players swapped shirts. I never really understood why. It was a real shame so many in Bayern shirts during the celebrations.
Withe and Spink swapped back again many years later.

Yes they did!

I think it was some kind of fashion in the early 80s or they were starstruck.

Contrast with the Villa Coach who made Louis Barry go and get his short back when he swapped with Liverpool on debut.

Villa fans sang "You'll never Walk Alone" in Rotterdam as well after winning which they would never have done a few years later.

I remember us signing You'll never Walk Alone" at Wembley when we beat Manure 3-1 in 1994.

Sad if he needs the money, as compared to some of the lesser talented players in the PL today. The current Yanited GK as an example.
Still it probably does not fit him ay more.

Villa Park needs an easily accessible museum to display stuff like this

(the medal and shirt obviously...not the pith helmet   ;D )

No. If if was it might have a slightly higher opening bid of two quid.
