Thanks for taking me back to that winter, I remember seeing the blue touchlines it must have been an omen for league cup, I was a twelve year old committed to the witton end down the front, what I can’t remember was if the old witton lane stand was like the trinity road with standing in the front section. Great article how we’ve suffered over the years.

what I can’t remember was if the old witton lane stand was like the trinity road with standing in the front section.

This season was my first, Dad succumbing to constant nagging. He had little interest in football aside from the holy 15 minutes when the classified were on TV. He might have been just as likely to take me to an Albion game.

Anyway, it was a reserves game against Sheffield Wednesday an I remember standing in the front of the Witton Lane stand near the junction of the Witton End.

We lost, but the whole spectacle of those Villa shirts against the vivid green of the pitch was magic. This makes me think it was early in the season.

We lost, but who cares? 63-64 was the next time I went, as he refused to take me again.
