I can see why some people might be uncomfortable with it but like Amfy suggets, I dont think there is any malice or racial intent in it at all. It just fits with the song.

‘I’m dreaming of a white Grealish’ kinda fits too

I'm not sure it particularly matters if there is malice or not, but of course there is racial intent to the song. Similar to the Yids chants at spurs, it doesn't have to be malicious to be problematic. As with the Danny Baker issue, I'd be more interested in hearing the views of people of colour on this.

It was 5 blokes singing it in a pub, but the way that throbber Collymore has been banging on about it, you’d have thought all 40,000 Villa fans at the game on Saturday were singing it all game. It’s a poor choice of song, but he’s given it way more exposure than it would otherwise have had.

The problem Stan has was that everyone on the original post was banging on at him for a response - making out he’d stay quiet or make excuses because it was Villa.

I think he has gone over the top in his response - but then I am not black so how would I know?

I am sure you have seen the clip?
There are also little kids sat around that pub clapping along (it’s difficult to see if they were singing). It’s not a great example to set.
Belting out ‘woah black Tammy.....’ does not sit well with me.
Why not something like ‘whoa our Tammy.....’ that would have fitted just as well.

It doesn't sit right with me either, but unfortunately I reckon Stan doing his usual ranting, over-the-top stuff about it, is making it more likely that people will sing it, not less.  I hadn't seen the clip until he mentioned it, but now my Twitter timeline is full of it.

It's fucking daft if they are singing that in this day and age.  It would just about work with "Woah Tammy Tammy" if they want to use that tune.

As with every other club, we have some utter morons following us.

I think it's a shit thing to sing.

Been reading this debate on twitter.

It sounds nothing like Black Betty  :o

I don’t know what song you have heard but it sounds exactly like Black Betty. That is the main defence for it really - it scans really well!

Tbf - the word ‘black’ in this chant is in no way being used as an insult, and the clear intent of the people involved was to try and create an original chant for a player they love, but it’s just uncomfortable, weird, and one for the bin.

Apologies for quoting myself...
I've only ever known, heard and sang the "Ooooh Tammy, Tammy" one.

I wasn't aware that there was another song and still haven't heard it. There is clearly a racial undertone without being racist, however it is all rather unnecessary to mention the colour of his skin if they have adopted but not adapted the lyrics.

Sweet Caroline...from "the hands part" - I've been singing it all afternoon, on my own.

Paul McGrath, Mellberg too,
Super Jack, John McGinn, John Carew...
Sweet Caroline,
Fuck the Blues,
Good times never seemed so good, so good, so good,
