EFL New TV Deal.

We, amongst others are not happy apparently. 

£595m five year deal agreed.  Despite requests to extend the time to consider it.  One tenth of the domestic PL deal.  Apparently some clubs are meeting on Tuesday and the beeb reckon the EFL may have started a war.

The problem for EFL is that more powerful clubs like us and Leeds do not have any long term affiliation to it as they want to be out of this League. That weakens the overall negotiating position.

I'm surprised it's that much tbh, I doubt that the other lower leagues around Europe generate that much TV money.

According to one report, the meeting is at Villa Park and Leeds, Derby and WBA have been mentioned as participants.

The main issues seem to be;

Length of the deal
Amount paid by SKY
The Red Button which the clubs reckon is affecting mid-week attendances and have stats to prove it apparently
The amount of times the big clubs i.e Villa, Leeds are on SKY and the amount they are paid as compensation

There's occasions when viewing figures for EFL games exceed the Premier League offering. Yet beyond the £2.7m solidarity payment, you get £100k or £10k per game. Considering clubs like us and Leeds are on 20 plus times a season it's a pittance. Meanwhile Huddersfield and Cardiff get smaller viewing figures but many times the amount.

The red button is impacting mid-week attendances too so I can fully appreciate clubs getting het up about that.

The red button is an issue I can fully understand a lot of clubs not being happy with. Regarding viewing figures, let's say us, Leeds and Sheff Weds go up this season, Huddersfield, Cardiff and Fulham go down. Those big viewing figures all but vanish and could never come back for the duration of the contract.
