I think maybe Underdogs is the wrong word. We're not favourites to win obviously.

Surely by definition that does make us underdogs for this game?

I can't make this unfortunately, which is a pity as the ground is walking distance from my house (I can hear the crowd on matchday if the wind's in the right direction).

However...a few tips for any real ale fans as this is probably your best trip of the season. Pity it's not a Saturday fixture. (Note that this advice is unsuitable for those who want somewhere for a 'sing song'. Such behaviour would not be tolerated in these places).

There are two pubs in the station, one at each end. I can't tell you much about the Head of Steam as I haven't been in in years, as the one at the other end, the King's Head, is far superior. Recently restored to something like its Victorian glory. Known locally by its old name, the Station Tavern. Ten ales, all good, between £2.50 and £3.00. I recommend Bradfield Farmers Blonde. Taylor's Landlord is also a regular. One of the guests is generally from Pictish.

200 yards from there, the Sportsman. Restored art deco 1930s place. Out of the station you'll see traffic lights in front of you. Turn left, and the pub is just past the railway viaduct. Eight ales, regular is Taylor's Boltmaker. One of the guests is always from Mallinson's, another a porter, most of the others from local breweries. Real cider. Craft beers on keg.

Clicky

Five to ten minute walk further is Magic Rock Brewery Tap. Continue past the Sportsman, cross the ring road, and keep straight on past the retail park. Magic Rock is on the right, opposite the church. As you enter their yard, turn right, the Tap is behind the brewery.Large space. Four casks from £2.50. Ten kegs from £5.00. All beer brewed on the premises, and there are windows so you can see into the brewery. I recommend Cannonball (intensely hoppy IPA, 7.4%), or if you like a things bit sweet and interesting, Custard Pie. This is a collab with an Italian brewer. Wheat beer, flavours of banana, vanilla and pecan nuts. 6.7%. They serve 1/3 pints if you want to have a good old sampling session. This place is my local.

All of the above are about a 20 minute walk from the ground. If you are driving or don't mind shelling out for £5 taxi rides, the Grove is very popular. I don't go there any more as a) the three above fulfil all my beery needs, b) it's further to walk and more importantly c) I fell out with the landlord.

Especially avoid the Cherry Tree (Wetherspoons) and the Vulcan. These are most definitely home pubs. I've seen away fans in the Vulcan with no problem but am told this isn't always the case, if certain local hoolies are in things can turn nasty.

The ones I've recommended you will find to be welcoming with friendly and approachable locals who are happy to talk football with away fans. Decent behaviour is expected though, obviously. Any questions about anywhere else I'm happy to answer, if I can.

Since the result is decided by what happens on the pitch (not ancient glories) and predictions are based on what's happened on the pitch in the recent past, then I'd say we're the underdogs. A draw will be a decent result.

I will never see Villa as underdogs to Huddersfield regardless of what division we are in.  I take on board that we are below them and a little fragile on the confidence (but gaining some)front and that the bookies have us at 3/1 or whatever but we are still the Villa.  We have been through a blip but are still a force because of who we are and shouldn't in anyway feel like an underdog going to Huddersfield.

PWS is correct. Here Clampy is using a rhetorical figure of speech, called litotes,  which employs ironic understatement to make an affirmation from a negative statement.

It's like saying 'I wouldn't kick her out of bed'. What you are actually saying is that you would pleasure the lady until your knob resembled a plate of shredded beetroot. Litotes (pronounce Lie-TOE-tees].

Anyway, our strike force is not the most prolific in the Championship so I won't be upset with a 0-1.

Hi Pete

any clues on best place to park and food etc

Parking - car park at the stadium is £6, not sure how early it fills up though. There is some off-street parking on St Andrews Road for about a fiver, or you can park in the town centre and walk 20 minutes. Council parking (on street and car parks (apart from multi storeys) are free after 6.00pm. You may also find on on-street place in some areas between the town and the ground. Avoid retail parks, you'd be risking a fine.

I'll add that for those that aren't bothered about quality real ales there is a pub at the ground, the Rope Walk, and the Peacock on Leeds Road is OK. There is also the Gas Club (near the gasometer, believe it or not), £1 day membership, and the last time I was there they were serving pie and peas.

Food - depends on what you want. They sell burgers, hot dogs and various pies in the ground. There is a pub not too far away from the ground on Leeds Road called the Yorkshire Rose that specialises in pizza. Apart from that, in the town centre you can get tapas, Thai, Mexican, Lebanese, Chinese, Eastern European, Persian, Italian. There are a few pretty good cheap noodle places. And a Nandos. For curry, La Las, Nawaab are pretty good, Chilli Lounge very good. I like Shama Balti on Bradford Road, about a mile from the ground.

I voted for a draw, but our current form is better than theirs and I love an underdog - so 1-3 to the Villa! Conor, Kod and Chester
