England U21s. No Villa players
« on: June 02, 2015, 05:08:47 PM »
Just had a browse on the font of all knowledge Wiki, and I beleive that this is the first time that England have qualified for the U21 championships without a single squad member from Aston Villa selected. At least since 2002

Is anyone else seriously concerned regarding the quality of our youth nowadays?

I'd imagine Grealish would be in if he'd declared for England.

Other than him we don't really have anyone under 21 and English who is near our first team, whereas many of those picked have played a lot for their clubs.

Last time we had just Delfouneso in the squad, but I don't think many would argue that him being selected was a sign that our academy was in great shape because of it or that he has gone on to be a particularly good representative of our youth system.

Under-21 matches are even more pointless than international friendlies.

It sounds like our U21's aren't very strong but it sounds like in the lower age groups we've still got some promising players who play for their England sides.
