I wonder if we'd have won the title in 89/90 if we'd had McInally up front rather than Olney (and later Cascarino)?

No, because he paid for McGrath and he was fucked after Christmas 1988 anyway.

I presume we would have been able to afford McGrath anyway - he was only £400k.  And Ellis found £1.5m for Cascarino towards the end of the season.  We sold McInally for £1.1m.

Looking at his wiki entry, it looks like he played the 31 games for Bayern, and they won the League.

Played on the left for Bayern didn't he?

I guess Lineker's wage demands would have been the biggest problem had he seriously have wanted to join us. Don't forget we were a newly promoted side on the back of a downward trajectory over 5 years or so. He was one of the top strikers in Europe at the time so it would have taken a lot of persuasion, and money, to get him to join.
