I was half hoping his name would have been chanted on Saturday which was ridiculous really given that any young urchins back then who seen and remember him play would now be in their late 50's. 

There were a few of us old uns giving it a go round by me but, unsurprisingly, it didn’t catch on.

My favourite memory of Andy Lochead was him applying an assist rather than scoring a goal himself. I hope others can fill in the gaps in my memory but I am sure the event happened at a night game, possibly against Oldham where Jim Cumbes hoofed the ball up to beyond the half way line for Andy to win the header, glancing it with precision to Ray Graydon who then volleyed it over the keepers head into the top left corner. I'd like to think that the ball didn't touch the ground from when Big Jim kicked it to the moment the opposing goalie picked the ball out of the net. It was a goal so noteworthy that there was an editorial written with pictures in a weekly collectable magazine called World of Football.

Well done, Dave, this is a great tribute.
I was privileged to be at Villa Park for the Man U and Bournemouth games and both are right up there in the top group of my most memorable Villa games.
As you say, Andy Lochhead wasn't one of our greatest centre forwards, but as a fighter, a warrior, he is unsurpassed. When Brian Little spoke about his partnership with Andy, he recalled his simple advice: "Just stay near me and pick up the pieces."

He was my first Centre Forward so I used to charge around Finchley park pretending to be him. That is hero status in my eyes
