United away
« on: March 03, 2014, 04:24:42 PM »
For some reason a friend and I have decided to bite the bullet and make the trip up to the Theatre of Nighmares this season. Tickets have been bought and instantly regretted....

Having never been there before I was wondering if anyone had any good advice on transport out to the ground from Manchester Piccadilly and any decent pubs for away supporters?

Thanks a lot, any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you are travelling from anywhere south of Watford then it's  nightmare as you will find roads and trains full of Manu fans.
I don't know anything else other than park your car at the first sign of a man wearing a high viz jacket and urging you on to some derelict land all for £10.

There is a train direct to the ground from Piccadilly; in fact there are usually a handful of them. It drops you right by our turnstiles. If you want to guarantee getting one back, you need to be on your toes just before the end. Plenty of good pubs in the town but some are a bit dodgy.

I always park at the Lowry and walk over the bridge and up the canal/river bank

This, there is also the metrolink Old Trafford stop direct from the Piccadilly train station, just go downstairs and it's there. You have to cross the road and walk up a bit once you're off but it's piss easy just follow red shirts.

Can get like a tin of sardines at times though.

Thanks everyone, this is a great help. Hopefully it'll be a good day out if nothing else ;)

If you see me, come say hi. You won't miss me... I'll be wearing a Villa shirt.

If anyone is travelling from Manchester City centre. Get to Piccadilly gardens and get the 256 bus.  The buses also pick you up outside Old Trafford on the chester Road.  It's eaiser to get a bus rather than a tram.
