Middlesbrough 0-4 Villa 1999
« on: November 27, 2013, 11:26:09 PM »

From the FA Cup final season and a Monday Night Football game if I recall. This was the fateful night Gazza broke his arm headbutting George Boateng. One of the few league games Carbone scored in (he tended to only find the net in the cup) and also one of the worst away strips we've ever had.

Valentines Day 2000 I believe. I was a student in Liverpool and spent the night getting hammered in student bars rather than watching the match. Typical it turned into a rare goal fest

Shame we couldn't get Carbone back for longer. Cracking little player on his day. Even though his goal record in the league wasn't brilliant he was still pretty decent. It's also hard to forget the cup game against Leeds. Pure class. Having him and Merson in the same side was very good to watch at times, albeit too fleetingly. Benito is one of those players for me I look back at and wonder what might have been had we had him longer. Nilis even more so.

For me Carbone never had the application required to be as good as he should have been. In the end he picked pretty much nailed on relegation for the sake of a bigger paycheque. Sums his attitude up.

I was going out for Valentine's day and had a pain in my stomach all day. Ended up leaving work early to take painkillers, cancelling the night out, then having to go to A&E when I could stomach it no more. Turned out the scar from my appendicitis op 5 months earlier had stuck to my stomach wall and ended up having an emergency op.

I found out the result when I came round from the anaesthetic and was so groggy I thought I had dreamt it. Also on the plus side, I didn't spend a dime that Valentine's night.

Without cheating and reading the match report, I'd be impressed if anyone can remember who finished the match in goal for us from that game.
