I think its harsh on Bennett to claim his misplaced pass caused the first goal. For a start it was on half way. Then Bannan or Westwood could have gone towards the ball. Bannan was closest but was too slow to react. Even then there was a lot to do for it to end up in the goal. After the shot Vlaar stopped running allowing Jenas to run past him and score. Bennett's pass shouldn't have ended up in the back of our net and the pass wasn't as bad as is being made out.

I agree that it was still preventable but it was a poor pass and giving the ball away in that situation often leads to trouble, Bannan even pointed back to where he should play it as he didn't want it where he was.

And what was worse is that Bennett tracked all the way back at pace to try and make up for the mistake but then failed to react to the rebound - double whammy.

Vlaar definitely gave up the chase, I'm not sure whether Bennett just hesitated at the last or was just outpaced when Guzan  pushed the ball out.

He was actually ahead of Jenas for most of the chase back. If he'd been cuter/more experienced he would have edged across Jenas' line and made him run the long way round. Easy clearance.

If Liam Ridgewell had made that mistake in a Villa shirt he would never have managed that much.

Agreed and he actually played well after it. I think there's potentially a good player in Bennett and he is improving.

I thought, other than the assist, he was diabolical. Totally out of his depth, running around like a headless chicken. The only plus point was that he did not have enough of the ball to cause any more damage.

massive win and the first time i've walked away euphoric from villa park for ages. great atmosphere in the holte. even when qpr equalised, the fans got behind the team. made a hell of a difference.

hope it is like that for the last 4 home games.

I'll give you the fact that he didn't have a great 1st half.
He had a great 2nd half, though. Yes he set up Weimann for the 2nd goal. It was actually a great bit of skill if you watch it again. You missed his excellent cross to Weimann at the far post, and you also must have missed the 5 or 6 excellent tackles he made in the 2nd half, too.

Fair play to every one that went. I've just watched the game again and I'm still shitting it going into the last 5 minutes.

Just imagine how good that attacking unit could be if it had a solid defence behind it.
