Remembrance Day game

Quote
Aston Villa will be acknowledging Remembrance Day at the Bolton game.

Remembrance Day is observed on 11th November to recall the end of hostilities on that date in 1918.

It has added significance this time around as we commemorate 100 years since the end of World War I.

Our nearest fixture is against the Trotters on Friday 2nd November.

Volunteers from the Royal British Legion will be selling poppies and a special club commemorative badge outside of the stadium prior to kick-off, with representatives from the RAF, Army and Navy also attending the game.

These include the Fusiliers, Birmingham University Royal Naval Unit and the Royal Air Force.

The Fusiliers are respected as tough partners in combat, no-nonsense soldiers who take on any challenge.

Students from across the West Midlands can join Birmingham University Royal Naval Unit while they are studying at university. Based out of HMS FORWARD in Small Heath, the unit gives the students an opportunity to discover more about the Royal Navy & Royal Marines.

For over a hundred years the Royal Air Force has defended the skies of Britain. Today the RAF is engaged in 15 missions on four continents in 22 countries.

There will be a special Guard of Honour for Veterans who have been nominated by the Royal British Legion.

The Last Post will be performed by the Trumpeter of the Central Band of the Royal Air Force.

The players, officials and supporters will observe a minute’s silence, with the Last Post being played in order to commemorate those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and fallen during conflict.

To help commemorate and mark our Remembrance fixture we are giving away 6,000 hand waver flags to fans for this game.

We are giving them away from inside the Holte Lower concourse as fans arrive on a first-come, first-served basis.

Both teams will adorn the poppy symbol on their strip for the match, to be auctioned at a later date by the Aston Villa Foundation.

Proceeds will go to local military charities through the Supporting Our Own initiative.
