Ivor Powell
« on: November 06, 2012, 01:21:41 PM »
Ivor Powell has died at the age of 96. He played for Villa from 1948-51 and was the oldest-surviving Villa player at the time of his death and probably the oldest ever. Ivor was best-known for still being a coach for Team Bath until he was 93.

Rest in Peace Mr Powell. Take a comfortable seat and watch the Lambert revolution to make your Villa great again.

I was reading about Ivor Powell a couple of years ago and  he was one of the first footballers to use the long throw as a tactical weapon.

Thanks Dave, my father will be interested and saddened to hear that as Ivor was a player he used to watch regularly during that period

I had a few dealings with Ivor ten years or so ago when Team Bath had their FA Cup run.

Very nice chap. RIP.

An uncanny resemblance to Eric Cantona there.

Didn't we have a thread about Ivor recently? I certainly remember reading about his Villa days and his time at Bath.

RIP Ivor.

Isnt that Trevor Ford following Ivor out?. He was fielding when Garry Sobers scored his six sixes at St Helens.

Saw him many times.   Great Villa stalwart.   Could throw the old leather ball half the width of the pitch.   Thank you Ivor.
