26 years ago -our lowest point?
« on: January 31, 2012, 05:09:55 PM »
Plenty of low points to choose from in this season, but this must be up there.

Mind you, at least we never had to stoop low enough to appoint John Bond as our manager.....

Aston Villa's 0-0 draw at home to Southampton was watched by their lowest crowd (8,456) for 29 years. Later, a group of supporters called for the resignation of the chairman Doug Ellis. However manager Graham Turner, who is himself under intense pressure after the FA Cup defeat by Millwall, said: 'The chairman has never interfered in my job, so it is a bit unfair that he is getting stick. '

Middlesbrough's manager Willie Maddren resigned after the 3-1 defeat by Charlton, but one manager with a smile - at least for the time being - was John Bond. His first match as Birmingham's manager, a 1-0 victory at Oxford, broke their run of 17 League matches without a win.

The day's shock result was Reading's 6-0 thrashing at Walsall. (c) Times Newspapers Ltd, 1986

You wouldn't treat a dog the way Bond was treated when he he lost his job at Small Heath.

Serves him right.
