Dave, Youtube is banned in China (amsick of writing this on here!) but I assume this is the 25 yard late equaliser against Jack Charlton's Boro? A cracking goal that got us out of jail against a much better team.

Brought back many happy memories seeing that Bruce Rioch goal, along with Harry Burrowse ,he was the hardest shooting player i have seen in a Villa Shirt.Forgot just how muddy the pitches used to be

It is great to see that footage. Villa Park was bedlam as it always was. Was anybody here one of those kids who swamped Rioch after his goal?

My second ever visit to Villa Park - and I don't think I ever knew it was televised on MOTD.  If the camera could only pan a few more degrees right for the Boro goal I might even see me with my brother and dad close up to the fence at the front of the Witton End.

Other than the score and my favourite player scoring, my only other recollection of the match was Jack Charlton on the pitch collecting his players' tracksuit tops at the warm-up. It was the first time I'd ever see a World Cup winner in real life.

Good vid.

Was Boro's goal strictly speaking an own goal by Rioch ?

Also, I wonder how many of those young Villa fans running on the pitch are now balding middle aged cynics prone to a good moan on H & V ?  ;D

I missed seeing Bruce Rioch by a season and it has always been a regret not to have witnessed a Villa great.
He always looked the epitome of a PE teacher.
(not that sort!)
