I don't go to many away games, but  I chose well with this one. Followed it up by going to see Eddie Izzard at Shaftesbury Theatre. Believe it or not, he was cutting edge and very funny in those days.

Great day out.

Oooh, this takes me back. Was living on the Isle of Dogs back then.

Took my cousin, who is a West Ham fan (from Stroud ?!), into the Villa away end for this one. He was throwing up in the toilets at half-time, poor flower was a might hungover from the previous night's bender.

I remember Tommy Johnson running towards goal and me thinking "oh, he's completely shanked that cross" only for it to hit the net half a second later !

Anyway, thanks for the link DM, I've favourited that...

I went to this one as well. Was this Super Tommy Johnson's only decent game for us. Does your heart good to remember when we used to play well, win and give the fans something to be proud of.

To be fair to him he had a very good run of games from this one onwards up until the 1996 League Cup Final. Playing in the hole behind Yorke and Savo he was quite a regular goalscorer. And he absolutely destroyed Wimbledon the season before in the 7-1.

I loved the ironic chants of the Wimbledon fans of:
"Villa, Villa what's the score ...."
"One Seven, One Seven...."

Happy days
