Elgar was known to be a Wolves supporter, but it has also emerged that the composer of Land of Hope and Glory also penned the world's first football chant.

Titled "He Banged The Leather for Goal", the theme was written more than 100 years ago in honour of his beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers.

I've just gone right off him.

Apparently he used to cycle up to games at Molineux from his home in Malvern, sometimes stopping off on the return at the Himley House hotel.

Ok he was a stinking Wolves fan, but the Enigma Variations still rock.

They do indeed. One of my all-time favourite albums.
