Yes it was Bury in Div 3. The friendly was a pre-season thing. I went to both matches but got them confused. At this game we got chased around the ground by Man City fans armed with bike chains. I had to run under a police horse to escape and got whacked by an old bag with a newspaper as I ran through the terraces, being called a bloody t'hooligan. The programme stand was turned over by the mob off The Special. All in all a normal away game in those times. Pity my memory isn't as good as the Rothmans Yearbook or Official History of Aston Villa. I thought we lost 3-1?
