Dave Collett remembers a legendary departure with the title modified to avoid panic.

I enjoyed reading this, I remember those times and watching the players.
Also, the legendary status of BL, it can’t really be appreciated if you weren’t there. Well, maybe it is, like Hendrix.
I also liked the reminders of the players around at the same time he was managing us, like Savo, Yorke, Staunton, young Lee Hendrie and the last loopy but totally globally brill goalie we had, Bozzie.
Also, Townsend, Collymore, Grayson, JJoachim and our very own Ambassador Ian Taylor. With others mentioned in the article, what a fantastic time to be a Villa fan. Thanks for the Cup!
Excellent round up of a distinguished career. I loved watching him as a player for the mighty Villa. May Sir Brian continue to delight us all in what he continues to do for the club for years to come, and many, many thanks.
Also to Dave Collett!
Er,
Just one crit. About the title, when I read it in the LHS column in here.
I thought, for a completely shocked moment, that Our Brian (he who walks on water) had Gone to join the HEITS!
Please don’t do that.

^ My heart also skipped when I read the title!
-
I’m not alone in that, then!

It was a good read Dave.

It's a shock-tactic of a headline, sure.

I was one of a few far from enthused by the Collymore signing and it's this, more than anything else that capsized Little's spell as manager in my opinion.

Me too, I didn't think it was what we needed at all.
-
What/who did we need?
-
what a memory

Loved reading this - thank you.

Nice one Daz.

What/who did we need?
I wanted Andy Cole, which apparently they did enquire about but it was a complete non starter, but I didn't know that at the time. I just didn't rate Collymore as much as others, and felt we needed more of a sharp penalty box type striker than him.

I was at that shareholders meeting. He seemed fine.
Great article.

Funny how memory plays tricks. I was at the Coventry game and I thought he'd left just after that.
If I'm rembering correctly, Stan played out of the left that game, with his contribution largely consisting of knocking crosses into that man mountain of a striker Julian Joachim. Which of course got us nowhere...

Was at Portsmouth too. In the open away end. In the relentless pissing rain. Thank goodness for the ponchos...

I seem to remember that Bruce Rioch was offered the job ahead of BL but turned it down. Does anyone know why BR actually turned it down?
