Grealish you can fuck right off. We won the second half 1-0. That’s the result.

Lots to build on there.

Coutinho should absolutely not be written off. Duran looks a player. Watkins is scoring. We showed some fight.

Woeful first half, outfought, outplayed and gave the ball away so cheaply. We Improved after the subs were made and a nice finish from Olllie but I expect changes next week.

First half was embarrassing, but it was literally the worst time in history to be playing up there.  Grealish is now (surely) dead to Villa fans.   Second half was slightly better.  Slightly.  McGinn did well when he came on.

Leon Bailey is not good enough and I don't want to see him start games for a while.  He is a waste of a shirt.

Diabolical, listless first half. Much better and more intense second. Based on that Duran, Coutinho, and McGinn all deserve a start. All of them offered much more than who they replaced.

At least the second half gives us something to work from, but we can’t keep shipping goals like we did in the first. Great work from Duran and lovely finish from Ollie for the goal.

Not sure if the performance in the match thread or by the team was worse first half.

Think Emery has his 11 wrong. Duran clearly offering more than Bailey already. Coutinho probably deserves a run now too.

It's not much consolation when our best part of the game comes when the game is pretty much over, but I thought that Duran and Coutinho's performances just went to show how much of a better side we would be with better quality options than Bailey and Buendia.  Thought McGinn added some extra energy as well.

Duran is raw, but looks like he might have something about him.  He looks like he might have some kind of understanding with Watkins as well.

Forget about Grealish, if Bailey dangles a leg on 15mins when De Bruyne comes across him, he might get a card for simulation or might get a pen. Thick as a brick. Decent last 20 when the subs came on but City had declared by then. At least it wasn't a massacre.

Feared the worst when they lost at Spurs last week and at half time was reckoning on five or six.  So actually pretty happy with the second half!

How can VAR look at that Grealish penalty and not call the ref over? I watched All Quiet On The Western Front the other night and saw German soldiers being pumped full of close quarters machine fire go down less dramatically.

Wrong team picked, first 15 mins of second half wasted until we made some changes. All the subs did well I thought so should made the next team selection a lot more interesting. Need to toss this 4222 in the bin permanently.

It's probably to be expected what with the whipped-up partisan atmosphere of any football ground, but the utter lack of any kind of self-reflection (Man City have literally been accused of cheating for over a decade) from the 'etihad' was somewhat sickening.  There'd be an element at any ground in the country that would be so, but I would hope that if it was us, we'd be a little more circumspect about how we'd behaved.

The game was utterly predictable.  They have world class players in every single position, and a world class coach.  We have the latter, but not the former.

So, the next time we play this lot let's see where we/they are. That will inform how the next 10 years might play out.

Never going to win away when:
Your keeper makes a howler in the first few mins.
Chambers doesn’t clear it for a corner or a throw in.
You concede a shit soft pen.

We were shite the first half but not 3.0 shite.

Much better 2nd half.

Have to drop:
JJ
Bailey
Digne
Chambers

Replaced Man. United as my least favourite away game of the season these days.

Last picked up some league points there in April.....2007.

Basics but you can't just let in a goal after 5 minutes, we missed Mings there as a presence.

Easier to play at 3-0 down and game over but at least the subs showed something so a few of them really need to be starting v Arsenal otherwise it will be a repeat showing.

quality and they won’t be here next season.
Hopefully Emery gets the backing in the summer because he will get it right I’m sure of it.

Emery is being given the opportunity to mould the club how he feels it should operate from the ground up. This will take a long time, and it’s not like we have been competitive towards the top end of league before he turned up. The club needed to do something like this after they potted Deano, but here we are. If we’re not challenging for Europe in a couple of seasons then it hasn’t worked out.

Sorry but we only started playing when they switched off. We keep picking Bailey when he’s clearly not good enough and we now have no choice but to play Watkins. Duran must surely start next game, McGin too. The summer must see a good clear out and real quality brought in

Disappointing first half - very disappointing - 3 soft goals.  And not enough fight.

Better after the subs - think McGinn for ramsey in this kind of match - and maybe cash for young - as think his energy helped.

Bailey and Emi2 still far too inconsistent.  Thought Duran looked good - would be tempted to give him a run instead of Bailey as his strength is a big plus and a great strike

Phil looked a level above when he came on - not sure what we do with that fact - but maybe, just maybe he isn’t down yet.

Chambers was thrown in at the deep end and sunk to be honest.  I think he would be a better DM than CB.

Think we made it far too easy for them overall.  And I think we saw the difference in quality of cheating Joe against anyone on our squad - apart from maybe Phil’s little cameo

Well done to Ollie well taken and didn’t get injuried.

Hopefully more competitive against Arsenal and then some easier games for us to see what’s next

Greasy should have been booked for simulation. Just can’t understand what var look at. It looked like a dive even in real time and, even more so in slow motion.
However, if we are going to compete with these “big” teams, we need to go at them from the off not when the game is done and dusted. Not having a go at Emery but, for me, the points we’ve gained since he arrived, seem to be just a new manager bounce again.

Taking anything from this fixture is a bonus. We did well to make life more difficult for them in the second half but silly mistakes and poor ball use cost us again. Duran and Coutinho looked good when they came on and Ollie took the one chance he got which is all we can ask. I’ve seen enough of Bailey to know that he does not fancy it at all when he comes up against a physical opponent. I’m not sure he’s actually that much better than Bertie.

All my mates (and a good number on here) have called out Bailey and Digne for being shite for ages and I’ve always defended them. It’s hard to now. Duran and Moreno are way more dynamic.

Yeah, I think Digne may well find himself getting moved on in the summer.

I'd also give up on Bailey, it's just never going to happen for him.

A bad day at the office, but losing by two is actually slightly better than I was expecting given the week they’ve had.

Sometimes it’s the little things you have to take solace in after results like this, and as impressive as Duran’s cameo was, it was his reaction to Ollie’s goal that makes me believe we’ve got a proper player on our hands. All the talent in the world means nothing without the application, and he was immediately signalling to get the ball back. He clearly has ability, but the boy really wants to win. That bodes well.

We have always known what ratboy is so I'm not surprised. We can't complain about him because he behaved exactly the same when he played for us.
What really gets me is that VAR didn't call it. All that technology, some time to look and consider and they still blatantly get it wrong.
At least when refs were making instant decisions in favour of the 'big teams' I would put it down to a subconscious bias. That VAR non decision to call the ref over is scandalous.

Never mind Traore not sure he’s better than Trez or El Ghazi.

He’s more inconsistent then all of them but when he’s on it his level is higher then all of them. Unfortunately, it’s too infrequent. His contract expires in 2025 so get as much back as possible in the summer I reckon.

The first half was dismal and we had no fight or organisation whatsoever. Second half was better but they’d taken their foot off the pedal.

Why Emery keeps picking Bailey and Ramsey I have no idea.
Or Digne

Ramsey's form has somehow fallen off a cliff.

Will pretend the first half simply didn’t happen. Second half was reasonable, Watkins finding some good form, subs all having an impact and Duran looks more advanced than I expected. All in all, a decent 1-0 away win against the cheating, sports washing twats.

Don't get to see the Villa as much as I would like,  but was there today. City didn't have to do much to win and took their foot off the gas in 2nd half.  Woeful 1st half, Chambers was worse than awful the whole game. City reminded me of a kitten playing with a ball of wool with Villa playing worse than the ball of wool. Duran looks a player in the making and no way should Bailey start another game in the near future. Looked like a penalty when Konsa was pushed over at a corner late on, but haven't had chance to see replay. Score flattered us.

I thought it was a pen too, he dangled his leg back so Ramsey brushed it, so it tripped him. He's bought it, but VAR isn't going to overturn that.

If Bailey had any sense he'd have dangled a leg against De Bruyne when he slid and we'd have had a pen.

Next week I'd like to see:

Martinez

Cash
Konsa
Mings
Digne

Kamara
Luiz

McGinn
Coutinho

Watkins
Duran

Young done nothing wrong, but I like Cash and think we need to keep hold of him considering respective ages.

Bailey, Buendia and Ramsey not doing enough right now.

That’s what I’d go with.

And that saves me a lot of typing too

Agree other than Moreno for Digne

Much better in the second half and some better individual performances.  The first half was a shambles though and shows that we need more steel and much less respect for the Sky favourites.   Bailey, Digne, Chambers and 442 needs to be binned.  I know you don't pick the team on the coach back from the game but surely Bailey gets benched.  Utterly useless.

             Martinez
Cash  Konsa  Mings  Moreno
       Luiz Kamara McGinn
             Coutinho
       Duran.  Watkins

Push the full backs on, let Phil do his stuff, the Buendia replaces.

referees should be looking at the position of bot players: JG is looking to cross Ramsey; Ramsey is trying to avoid any contact. It was a 'won' penalty not a 'committed foul'. It's manufactured - no foul / goalkick.

A much improved second half when the subs came on, which appears to me to contradict the general unease over squad strength. Duran, McGinn, Coutinho and Moreno all increased the speed of our play and also speed we pressed. We were unlucky I thought to not have a penalty for a push on Konsa. Everybody around seemed to agree, but I've not seen a replay yet.

I like Duran. He's very raw, but there appears to be a simmering energy in the things he does or tries to do that Bailey lacks.

You have to do a few things at Man City;  you have to not concede early, stay in the game and accept death by a thousand passes and unfortunately we did neither. Poor defending from Kamara if I recall for a free header. To concede from a set piece is maddening. Then we give the game away with 2 more goals late on. That said, it was an outrageous dive in real time and doubly so when bizarrely they showed it at half time on the screens.

A disappointing and passive performance first half. The centre halves distribution and its speed/accuracy into an attacking player is I think at the heart of a block on us progressing too much further.

Great to see Ollie continue his goal scoring form. Plenty to.work with second half.

I didn't get any strong vibes with either the team line-up or the body language as the players came out. Conceding early on from a corner is never easy to take - we need to be a lot tougher on set-pieces than we are currently (I think there was a stat during the Dirty-Leeds game that said we are one of the worst teams for defending set pieces - we simply have to be better at this technical part of the game).
It's easy to be critical of Chambers for the Citeh 2nd goal: however, their pass from midfield was brilliant, as was Haaland's run. Chambers committed to the interception but we don't know what Martinez shouted, or didn't, to him. As for the fullbacks, the move happened quickly and both fb are expected to be up the field. I think we're underestimating the Citeh quality on the move.
Having said all that, they were playing with us in the first half, really, despite the very soft penalty.

It's worth the debate if the 'system' learns something from it. I agree, it's not a pen but let's understand why it's not a pen: Grealish was clever - as he was when he played for us - but the ref system should have learned by now how to adjudge a genuine from a manufactured penalty event.

As a fan base we know more than anyone what he’s like, Grealish bent the rules and more often than not initiated contact on a regular basis when he played for us and we lapped it up, I know it’s what a being a fan is all about but he’s now not going to do it when he’s playing for someone else. In its current state it’s no surprise VAR either didn’t check it or saw nothing wrong.

I missed the majority of the first half but was surprised to read a few thinking we were still in danger of relegation on the match thread, I get it was shit but we were playing a team who’ve got the best there is and are perennial champions.

Disgraceful first half, decent second half.

Chambers was truly awful, Bailey v v poor

Hopefully Mings is fit next week, get McGinn back in for JJ, Duran for Bailey and give crowd a reason to get into the game

I start to wonder which team you support mate as you seem to spend all your time sniping at Villa fans KRO.

No need. He's as much a Villa fan as you or I.

I don’t think he is, personally.

Season ticket in K3 Risso. If you're angry at todays result, don't take it out on me.

Putting my head on the block here.
I think it was a penalty. A soft one, certainly, but a penalty non the less.
If we were in the same position we’d be fuming if it wasn’t given to us
The big give away for me is JJ doesn’t seem overly surprised.
When you’re running at pace the slightest clip can send you down.

Would it have been given at the other end.

That’s the question.

First goal - very poor to concede as we did so early. Not sure why we have a set piece coach, we look vulnerable defending corners and don't look threatening enough when attacking them.
Second goal - There's a reason why Chambers was allowed to leave Arsenal, today we saw why. His distribution is woeful and he was got behind so many times first half in particular.
Third goal - poor/naïve from Ramsey really, it's not as if Grealish wouldn't ever try and win a penalty in that situation.
Let's be honest though about our second half performance, it wasn't really us being much better. they massively took their foot off the gas thinking of their game in midweek.

Duran looked good, Coutinho showed glimpses - we do really need to dump Bailey though, he is an awful footballer. Two goalkeepers on the bench again and Swinkles.. the lack of depth is woeful.

Anyone with the sheer willpower to spend hundreds of hours on here having their will to live slowly and surely crushed can not be anything but a Villa fan.

Clamps - no desire to fall out at all, but I think what riles people sometimes is you tend to post stuff that focuses on the poster rather than what they're saying. People need to "grow up" / they are choosing "silly sticks to beat the club with" and so on. It isn't 'better supporter than yow' territory at all, but it does sometimes come across as patronising (and I know this post I am writing right now will also come across that way).

it comes across sometimes as being a bit ad hominem is what I mean.

There is no point expecting people to be calm and rational about football, because as we all know, that's not how it works.

As for referring to stuff that gets said in match threads - and not referring to you here, just everyone in general - that's always been the lair of angry lashing out. I wouldn't really focus on anything said in those too much.

I thought their defending was pants for our goal. Great through ball, nice finish from Watkins, particularly as two defenders were closing on him, but I was pretty surprised how a simple ball into the space between two centre backs undid them.

I honestly wouldn't. Just because you support the club, it doesn't mean you're entirely blinded by tribalism. He dived plenty of times for us, but was also one of the most fouled players I've ever seen. I defended him when I thought he was fouled and didn't when I thought he wasn't.

He dived today. If he'd been playing for us, it still would've been a dive.

I watched the first half at work and was driving home during the 2nd half, on what I saw it looked like we had a massive inferiority complex. I was fearing a mauling when I pulled up home so I was relieved to see we put a bit of respectability on it.

Duran took the pressure off Watkins when he came on, he's a big lad and puts himself about, too early to say he should start as Prem football is a lot different and faster but his bulk will cause problems for the opposition.
McGinn and Coutino did well, the rest may have given McGinn a new spark.

I was disappointed with how the first half went. And that things went against us like never being a nailed on pen and seemed soft but I guess Our Jack won a few our way.
In an attacking sense Villa seemed not go as planned in alot of the match till later on at 3-0 but it's all part of the learning process. Given our recent form and Villa's ability to play in possession, I was expecting a bit more competitive 90-minute performance.
The second half provided glimpses. Coutinho, in particular, impressed me when he came on.
My working theory of unexpected outcomes was only half correct as we won 45 minutes of football!

It will be interesting to see who is chosen for Arsenal, and there is a chance for things to turn in their favour because Emery will have a plan.
At the moment, there is a lack of consistency, but there are many encouraging signs in Duran and Coutinho, so thats good to see.

This past couple of weeks have flipped me from looking up the table and thinking we might overtake Liverpool, Chelsea, Brentford to looking down the table and thinking we could end up below Palace, Leicester, Forest and Wolves. Half a century of watching altitude sickness, choking and nosebleeds from the Villa seem to have hardwired it into me.

Looking that way but we can still turn it around, 7 points in March v Palace-West Ham-Bournemouth is a must to keep the season alive and motivation.

Fair play to all those who went. Of course you get many who go to every away game, some who will be based in North west etc but I genuinely have no idea for those who don't go away as much why you'd choose to go to this over say Everton which remains a very winnable game and could well be our final visit to Goodison.

Was totting it up and we've now lost 13 straight league games at their ground back to 2007. Must be a post ward record for consecutive losses at one single venue given even in our really bad runs at likes of Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge we'd usually get the odd draw every 3-4 years.

For the first goal Ashley Young's positioning is not right at the corner and for the second one he is ball-watching again instead of marking Gundogan.

I thought Young was more Old today. Grealish gave him the run-around at times and should have done so a lot more. There was a close-up of both players' reaction after Young fouled Grealish at one point. Young, angry and pissed-off as ever at a decision going against him. Jack with a wry smile, seemed to show respect to his former (briefly) teammate. It made me sad for a moment as here were two former Villa heroes - Young in his original incarnation and Grealish until he got his big move.

We were so passive first half , barely making up the numbers.  We have to believe in what we are doing. They are a good team but by jove they let you have attacking opportunities if you have a go

Not for the first time have we completely failed to turn up first half. I'd go so far as to say it's becoming a bit of a pattern.

What about all them early goals we score?

first half we played like Aston Villa always do against the top sides, frightened to put them under any pressure when they had the ball, there Midfield were getting around the back of our midfield too easily, and De Bruyne ran the game.

2nd half was better, but that could be due to City knowing they had won the game and they did not need to get out of the proverbial 2nd gear

Grealish gave Young a tough time, Buendia was non existent as was the rest of the midfield

Hopefully next weekend Cash will start as we will need pace to cope with the Arsenal wingers.

I guess if you're going to lose 3-1, that's the way to do it. It was always going to be difficult without Mings. He has his faults, but without him we're never as organised at the back, and no one else wins headers from set pieces. We need Tyrone in the team.

We just didn't get at them enough in the first half. We didn't have the bite and fight that we needed to get ourselves into the game, but having gone a goal down in the first few minutes it was so hard to get back into it. The second goal looked worse than it was, I think. It should have been dealt with better by Chambers, but they made the most of half a chance. That's what the best teams do, I guess.

It was a dive for their penalty - no one will be able to convince me otherwise, there is no evidence that he was touched at all. The only time I remember him doing that for us was at home to Palace. VAR looked at it and overturned it. Imagine being a club that has cheated on a historic level, and still feeling the need to dive in the box.

Bailey and Ramsey are a big worry. Bailey looks shot of all confidence, which seems to happen far too regularly. There was one point where the ball bounced off his shin and he seemed to intentionally let it go out, expecting a throw in... It was odd. There's is something not right there. Ramsey is going through a dip in form, which happens at his age. I would be surprised to see him in the starting team next week, but he'll be back.

The real positive was the impact the subs made. Coutinho, Durán, McGinn, Moreno - they all made a difference. Coutinho and Durán in particular, and they both got within a whisker of scoring. Great to see Watkins get another goal as well, and his brutally honest interview afterwards where he seemed to take responsibility for their second - not something I had noticed at all to be honest.

I think there was enough to take from that game to be positive about. Durán has earned a start, I think, and I want to see McGinn back in the team - I don't think we've played as well since he got injured. Having Mings and Carlos at CB would make a huge difference to that team - but I think if any side was missing it's first choice paring they would struggle.

I want to see more fight next week. I think that's they way we can get at Arsenal.

Excellent summary Boozey. I agree about Ramsey at his age form can dip quickly and I’m not too worried about him and playing under Emery. He’ll be ok.

I wonder if Bailey will be left out now, he’s been given a really decent run which he’s never had and it’s just not happening at all, so maybe a rethink is needed.

Honestly the gall of the idiot to applaud the fans after that. Starting to think it should be a VARable thing - you are, from a point of view, kicking someone else to trip yourself up. I'm not convinced that should be a foul, not at all.

The perfect encapsulation of a club that didn't need him but bought him anyway, using money they pretended to have, to destroy an old-fashioned football story and assimilate it into their joyless, frictionless, ersatz, uncanny-valley football-type virtual reality entertainment project - and still cheating to win when they didn't even need to. I hope they're forcibly liquidated.

I didn't watch the game so can't really comment but I did see some of the build up and it came across, at times, as if Sky were almost cheer leading for Stockport in relation to their financial issues. A fostering of the idea that this is already a huge injustice for the TV audience.

Also, they put up the stat about our record at the Emptihad. This means absolutely nothing without context, the same as the stats Legion posted earlier in this thread. It is a terrible record but entirely predictable given the investment (legal or otherwise) that Stockport City have put into the team in that time compared to ours. One would hope for something better of course but there is an overriding reason for their dominance and it should never be overlooked.

It's monopoly money, a scam presided over by a gay-repressing, woman-suppressing, racist-slave-state-ruling, dissident-jailing absolute dictatorship, propped up by planet-destroying fossil fuels.

Do you think City fans ever have that moment, as in the Mitchell and Webb sketch, where they wonder...are we the baddies?

Superb review, considered and balanced, thank you Boozey.

Yes, very sensible and rational assessment of the game, and agree on your comments on positives to take away.  Ashamed to say I could never have written such a well reasoned summary in my current fog of fury/frustration.

Even at the end with the game in the bag, one of their arseholes cynically chopped down one of our players in our own half as he turned away from him and then another one blootered the ball away up the pitch. Ref did fuck all.

Even ignoring the obvious cheating off the pitch and the beefits that brings, the way they play is boring, stifling and massively cynical. The bellend has managed to synthesize unfettered corporatism into a tactical system.

He's susch a wanker, if he had any kind of bollocks he'd show what he could do with an unfancied team, but no he just loves dominating and not competition, the bdsm freak.

The penalty decision was pathetically bad. The only way you could look at a replay of that and give it is if you wanted it to be a penalty in the first place. Extremely poor from the Ref and Var again. The pundits agreeing with it and how ''clever'' it was are just perpetuating cheating.

Against Man City it is obviously not a level playing field at the best of times so not having Mings available made a tough job even harder. The first half clearly highlighted this. It was pleasing to see our improvement in the second half and particularly following the substitutions, hopefully that has given Emery food for thought for next weekend.

Agree, but the problem is that a lot of our players look great when they come on and have a 20 minute cameo.  They don't seem to be able to do it though when they start games.

Absolutely. Credit where credits due to the players who came on in the second half but it has to be tempered by the fact that City were cruising in that second half and the spaces appeared where there was none in the first half. I get that and I'm pretty sure our multi trophy winning coach will too.

I thought Grealish eased up on him in the second half to be honest, was definitely a couple of occasions he could have gone after him but didn't bother. I'd bring Cash back in against Arsenal to see how he goes.

That's fair - and considering how great I though Coutinho was, it's quite telling that I am not suggesting that he starts next week. What we need, though, is to have players on form all through the squad. For too long, any subs that we have made have reduced the quality on the pitch, but that's not the case any more. We have players on the bench that could really make a difference, and if Phil only plays 20-30 minutes every week, yesterday gave me some hope that he could make a difference. Emery loves making subs, so we need to have 16 first team players for every match.

Dendoncker, I believe, could have been used to start the game.
My reasoning is to deal with Rhordi on set plays as he seems to enjoy being a nuisance and scoring against us, and I would have Dendoncker and McGinn in that lineup yesterday. Dendoncker would have been ideal for the corner, preventing a goal and providing physical presence.

If we had gone with that, Kamara could have stepped in as needed into the form of a back three to help build up play with Dendoncker and McGinn in the midfield and had Moreno in the line up ahead of Buendia.
Buendía is of little use without much team possession, and he gave the ball away, resulting in a goal. We've seen him do it before. When we aren't dominating the ball, I believe he can become anonymous, and thus Moreno and McGinn would have been better suited.

This is a more reflective piece as I wouldn't have been calling for Dendoncker as part of a midfield/defence and Moreno (with Digne ) instead of Buendía before the match.

Another option is McGinn can come in on that side for protection. Or Dendoncker as a three in the middle.
Digne was booked and that left side was quite the issue too with Kamara, Buendía, Chambers and Digne failing at times.

We saw immediate improvements once Moreno and Coutinho came into things on that side and in our play and possession.

With Man City, they keep width to make the pitch bigger, and it would have been equally difficult, if not more difficult, for Cash and would be on Wednesday because he lacks positional awareness, discipline, and composure, which is why Young is in the team, as Ash has all the experience and qualities that Cash lacks.

And Mahrez eased up on Digne even in first half as he had beating of him and was being repeatedly fouled. Lucas got a booking. The left side and right side was pretty horrendous yesterday at times to get into the opponents half. Kamara was poor in the spaces and Chambers lack of left foot an issue on the left.
Moreno and Digne in tandem for that one would have been a good starting option

Is that actually true re top earner? It was a lazy signing by Gerrard. Digne had a good record for assists at Everton pre Benitez and Gerrard wanted full backs to attack like Liverpool. Targett could at least defend, Digne is a liability. In saying that we could have prime Maldini at left back and he would struggle in our setup with likes of Buendia or Coutinho meant to be providing cover ahead of them.

Yesterday, Kamara let him down. His responsibilities on that side must also be mentioned. In that system, he must cover, come across, and stay with the man.
When Kamara is not in possession, he can struggle with some players' movements, which he hasn't been doing lately. He is not alone in this. However, he also allowed Rhodri to score in only 4 minutes at a corner. To be fair to his usual high standards, I believe he has been below par in the last two matches.

Are any man city fans actually raising any questions about how their owners might have cheated and put the club in jeapordy? Or are they fully behind them in a Putinesque show of public solidarity?

Having a quick look at Blue Moon, they have adopted a siege mentality, everyone out to get poor little Man City

They had a massive banner yesterday, "Pannick on the streets of London". [Lord Pannick being their KC]

A banner, in a football stadium, lauding a KC? What a fucking dead club.

Fucking little rat faced diving bastard. Yes I admit I’m bitter.

Me too, the diving fucking show pony.

Our Darren Woolley was speaking to Kevin Grealish before the game yesterday. Wonder how he feels about it all?
Pretty well off financially i would imagine :(

Interesting that Grealish had a 'reputation' for diving when he was at Villa, now he's 'clever'.

Fuck off Sky and fuck off Man City. Every pot City have won was bought and therefore, worthless.

Not only does it devalue the competitions now, I also think it's trampled over their own history and renders their previous achievements insignificant. They've haven't just sold their soul, they've sold their past too.

I very much doubt that the new generation of MCity fans give a fuck about that.  These are their glory years now.

It definitely felt like a siege mentality yesterday amongst the City fans and maybe the players. I've been to the Etihad nearly every season; that was the best home atmosphere by far. It might be the catalyst to propel them to another title. I don't care who wins the league, but I think City will go on and win it now.

How the hell did we get to a situation where Lucas Digne is our top earner and is no better than Targett.

And that one of our two January signings isn't considered right to start ahead of him. Nearly £40m on left backs in two years.

In one year (Jan 22 and Jan 23) !

I don’t think it will be long before Moreno will replace him. It sometimes takes these players a little time to get up to speed in this league.

Not his fault, it's the onfield officials and those in VAR room who needed to look at themselves.

Well at least the second half was better, and the substitutions made a clear difference.

Positives

Duran looked a real handful, and dare I say it, better than Ings. Should be starting ahead of Bailey who increasingly looks to have been a massive waste of money.

Coutinho was our best player, and on that performance should replace Buendia in the first team. Buendia deserves to be dropped on recent form anyway.

As gutless as the first half was, we had chances to score at least two more goals in the last half hour.

I really hope they get dumped down to the conference and forced to follow FFP on the way back up. Oh and any lingering respect for the weasel disappeared with the penalty.

It was never a penalty. I didn’t see any contact and even if there was then it would have been the very slightest of touches not enough to send an athlete flying to the deck. Grealish clearly threw himself to the floor with added pathetic theatrics. Did VAR even check the decision?

Different, er, levels, but the U-S-A bollocks when Lerner took over and then the Chinese flag flying made me uncomfortable. Not because of them being dirty forrin, but the subservience of it all. Much as it pains me to say it, I can't see us being much/any different if we had a dodgy entity buying us pots. There'd be a hard core of misery arses (and being Villa I'd hope they'd be greater in number than any other club could hope to muster) but the ground, shop and radio phone-ins would be full of people thinking everything was fine and dandy.

I'm not sure about that. You can't really compare Southampton with Man City. The crowd were riled up and the early goal was the last thing we needed to give away.

We definitely didn't put in a shift first half.

Yeah, conceding so quickly is never going to help, but we were pathetic - absolutely in thrall to them, we just let them do whatever they wanted.

Yep. If the Chinese State Investment Fund ploughed £2bn into Villa and became City Mk2, I doubt too many Villa fans would be complaining.

Football (and almost anyone associated with it) sold itself out years back. And it’s going to get worse over the next decade as the chosen few rampage through the game without a shred of moral or ethical consideration.

If you think it’s bad for Villa - put yourself in the shoes of most the rest of the football clubs across the UK. In a decade, half of them will be bust, will have folded into administration, or will have had to merge to stay afloat. It’s grim out there.
