Why on earth didn't we sign a striker in January (forgot about Duran...where's he, by the way?)

Chambers? Oh no.

Come on Villa!

I wonder if my forecast will finally ring true that Kamara will play as a centre back and join Konsa and Chambers in defence today without the ball
Rhordi is playing in defence for them

Definitely can exploit them in midfield and theres a good opportunity for things here if the players do Emery instructions

Can see McGinn maybe coming on to do a job when ahead and holding out.

Cash and McGinn obviously aren't doing instructions as well and arent trusted to perfom for 90 minutes so have no qualms with the line up even though I champion Ginny to curtail Grealish Emery has set this side up with Bailey to counter and provide goal threat. He scored at Villa Park so has form against Man City

Think Man. City will win comfortably, probably 3-0.

Bar Foden who's been off form since world cup they've gone for pretty much everyone they'd start in a big CL tie.

Did we lose someone overnight as we've only named 8 subs, two of which are keepers again. What happened to Duran?

Going to be a long afternoon I think.

No Olsen - PTSD from last year?

Just said that Duran is on the bench on radio 5 - a manger to fit that in before talking about what an amazing atmosphere it will be cos it’s Man City v the world

Mings is a huge lose - need his lead era hip and strength - and he is our best center half.

Probably the worst game for him to be missing for

It's frustrating, but it's going to come up each time because we want to win matches, and we've fucking gimped our chances of doing so.

It still has options if we're firmly in the game on the hour. Can bring two FBs on and McGinn and Dendoncker can be o.k defensive subs for certain situations.

Nothing to change it if we're losing bar Coutinho but then we knew that from lack of urgency to sign any attacker in January.

Bet365 hasn't listed Duran on the bench so no idea if he's involved given what's been said above.

People have been saying all week that it's a "great time to play city" but it really really isn't. It's the absolute worst time and was always going to be.

Just a properly depressing game this one.

Grealish.  ******.

Citeh haven't been anywhere near their best and they haven't needed to be. We've been incredibly inept all over the pitch

How shit are our squad?

This is properly embarassing, I know they're a top side but fuck me, pretty much any side would put up more of a fight than this.

We have 28 points. We were looking at the top 6/7 literally a couple of weeks ago and I fear now we could be heading more towards the bottom 6. We will get a pumping next week too. We will stay up but this squad will need a complete overhaul. Yet again. What a complete waste every year turns out to be at Aston Villa.

But it’s ok it doesn’t matter everything will be sorted in the summer.

Nothing has changed. We're still struggling to put two passes together.

This little losing run (which will include next week, have no doubt) could be a tipping point. There's always a team that thinks they're safe who have a few crap performances which turn into a situation where they can't buy a win. I didn't think we were safe when the transfer window was open and I certainly don't think we are based on this performance by this squad.

We need two wins to stay up pretty much.

Got to call into question the complete mentality of the club if we end the season poorly.

We have a proven trophy winning manager for them to learn off so there is no excuse to just sack off the last three months of the season again as we did last year.

Today is going as badly as I expected and shows for all the stick Mings gets the other options aren't close to him.

Poor team selection - too weak think wanted the baileys pace and if he had an ounce of the ability of grealish had he might be a player.

Ramsey needs a break - should have had cash and McGinn in instead of Bailey and Ramsey at least for a bit of combativeness

Really really poor and a prime example of why we should have gone harder in Jan - we looking at 3 straight defeats and likely conceding 10 plus goals

Not sure how any of that makes getting these unicorn players in the summer any easier

This is the same spineless shot we have served up for most of the last 4 seasons

One last time for the hard of thinking. Everyone knows we need better players, no-one has ever disputed that. What those of us who think we are better waiting realise is that we could have spunked £100 million on players in January who will only cost £30 million in the summer. That’s £70 million then not available to buy other players we need. You would think we have seen enough pissing money up the wall over the last 20 years to realise it might not be the answer.

Oh, and those turning on Emery after two defeats just fuck off. This afternoon is depressing but hardly surprising given what’s happening at Man Shitty this week. It’s one game against a side that can do this to anyone, but with any luck and some balls from the authorities will be the last time they’re able to do it ever again.

When you look at what Brighton, Fulham and Brentford are doing, if I was one of the owners I’d be knocking on the door of some of my staff who’d been making decisions on new players.
The squad has had a weak underbelly for a while and always revert back to type eventually. We’ve needed muscle and leaders for so long now and I just don’t get why it hasn’t been addressed. If I was confident I’d say wait until the summer but going by last month I’m not. There so much to sort out yet again, what has the plan been for the last few years?

This result was entirely predictable the moment they lost away to Spurs. As much was we like to think the current score is about “us” - and we HAVE been poor - losing today was pretty much inevitable. I thought by three, but god knows what it’ll be now…

I said before the Leicester game that we had to win, otherwise our form in three games time would look pretty terrible, and I still think that’s the case.  The difference to some merely being that I still 100% believe in Unai and the process he’s started.

Omnishambles.  Doesn't mater how good they are, we are lazy, in awe of them, can't control the ball properly.  Can't wait for the summer to come along but I just hope we don't get dragged back into a lower table scramble.  This is truly crap.  Ramsey on the right side of midfield does not work. Shove the process up your arse Emery, sort out the weeds.

Why are our fans not taking to Emery? I reckon 90% of clubs in our position be over the moon to get Emery?

I don't understand- genuinely baffled by some of our fans.

I love the bloke and am glad he's our Manager, but he's not playing he right system for the players he inherited and he also needs the time to fuck a lot of this shit off.

In my opinion getting Emery is one of the best things to happen our club since the 1990s. But I don't see that reflected on here- it baffles me.

If not Emery who exactly is going to get the patience to take us back near the top end of the table?

One fan, having a moan at the formation and the lack of effort of the players is not 'an Emery out' brigade.  The football is bad enough to endure without trying to start something that really isn't there.

Yeah I’ve seen hardly any anti Emery stuff and rightly so. His CV is at a level we haven’t had here for many years and he’s only been here a few months. That said not everyone is going to agree with every aspect of what he’s done so far, but I think 99% of us know that with some patience and proper backing in the transfer window he should do better than anyone has for a while.

Yeah. I'm trying to convince myself that they are just better players and that there's nothing we can do to arrest this but I just can't...

We last picked up league points there in 2007 and have had many big reverses, it's a far worse ground than Old Trafford these days where we're pretty competitive.

There’s too much teddy throwing recently by the obvious characters on here.

I understand the frustration but it’s blindingly obvious we couldn’t get the players emery wanted - otherwise we end up with that bloated squad that is disastrous long term.

This lot can do this to anyone on their day - it doesn’t help that we handed it to them. The guy we’ve got is a winner and he knows what to do.

Whether Martinez, Kamara etc will be around to see it so what…..good managers will find replacements.

Hopefully we will be pissing ourselves laughing at Man City by the end of the season and this game will just be foot note

As long as we don’t go down this season

Emery needs the summer to rebuild this squad. Shift off the dead wood and get some intelligent players in. He’ll do the job, just not with what we have right now.

It’s so frustrating being a Villa fan though. But how many times have we threatened to do things in the past, only to fart at the gate and end up doing nothing.

This time next year, H&V.

And hopefully Man City will fuck off into the obscurity that they belong in

Why isn't his name on the list? See first post on thread.
Hadn't seen this.

We won the second half, every sub improved us even Coutino. Duran gave us something and he and Watkins will cause defences a lot of problems. Playing a back six stifled them. To all half time critics when you look at how much City have spent and by the look of it a lot illegaly is it any wonder they dominated us. Emery made the correct changes, he did well, we did well.
