Good news for Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz out of The Aussie Open with a leg muscle injury.
-
Not good news for Jack Draper drawn to play Nadal in the first round of the Aussie Open, Murray also got a tough one, will play Matteo Berrettini.
-
Actually Draper may have a better chance than I thought, didn't realise Nadal's form since the US Open has been so bad, has lost 6 out 7 matches, having said that it's a grand slam and reckon Nadal will win in 4 sets. Good news that Raducanu is fit, hopefully there will be no more injuries, for a while.
-
Raducanu a bit hesitant and ragged to begin with. Probably working out whether she could trust her ankle, and a bit out of practice. Improved, and looks a lot fitter. Easy win in the end, but looks as if she will still need to play her way into the tournament, and bad timing to be facing next an in-form Gauff. But she showed glimpses of form to suggest that she can win, and Gauff can be a bit fragile under pressure. If Raducanu can get past next round I will start to get a bit excited about the tenner I have at 150/1.
-
Pity about Draper, was doing well, until he starting suffering with cramp, beaten in 4 sets, Norrie through in 3 sets.
-
5th set tie break in the Murray match. He’s putting us through the wringer.
-
Well done Andy superb win.
-
As expected Raducanu lost, but much better performance in the 2nd set, had 2 set points and ending up losing in the tie break. Not looking good for Nadal, picked up another injury on his way to losing to Mackenzie McDonald in 3 straight sets. Wouldn't be surprised, if he called it a day at the end of the year, if not sooner.
-
After 5 hrs 45 mins Andy Murray comes from 2 sets down to win in 5, gotta be one of his best performances, since all his injury woes started. Now played nearly 11 hours so far, not sure how his body gonna be, when he plays again on Saturday.
-
Andy Murray. What a competitor. Unbelievable.
-
Well done Andy, a proper Scottish tennis legend!
-
Just watching it now. It’s just getting to 4am over there!!
-
Cameron Norrie beaten in 5 sets by Jiri Lehecka.
-
Just 2 Brits left Andy Murray and Dan Evans.
-
Someone in the crowd for Evans-Rublev wearing a Villa top. Good man.
-
Unsurprisingly Murray loses in 4 sets, he looked cream crackered from the start, between points he looked like he was struggling to even walk, did well to even get a set. Credit to Bautista Agut not only was he up against Murray, seemed like 99% of the crowd for shouting for Andy. Dan Evans also out, no Brits left.
-
Good win for Tsitsipas beating Sinner in 5 sets. At the end of the match Tsitsipas handed out signed cards to the fans, I suppose that's one way of saving energy!
-
Brilliant from Djokovic beating Alex De Minaur in 3 sets, dropping only 5 games, at the moment it looks like only injury will stop him winning another Aussie Open.
-
Hasn't done much since she won Wimbledon, but Elena Rybakina now through to the semis after beating Ostapenko in 2 sets.
-
Wimbledon champion Rybakina v Sabalenka in the final, both big hitters. Looks likely to be Djokovic v Tsitsipas in the men's.
-
Men's tennis is pointless at the minute. If Nadal is fit he wins the French, if Djokovic is fit he wins the other three. Both are all-time greats, but fuck me, where is the next generation?
To think Federer took shit for dominating in a 'weak era' when, in Slam finals, he beat Roddick/Hewitt/Safin/Agassi/Nadal/Djokovic/Murray/Cilic.
Count the Slams there vs the current 'challengers'.
-
Agree with you Rory, only one answer to your question, where is the next generation, Carlos Alcaraz, pity he wasn't fit for the Open.
Anyway, after a wobble in the 1st set, Djokovic wins comfortably in 3 sets, hopefully Tsitsipas will give him a game in the final, nobody else has so far, Novak has only dropped 1 set so far.
-

Alcaraz eh? I haven't seen much of him, but if he's willing to compete, unlike Tsitsipas or the Zverevs, that's a bonus.
-
After a poor 1st set littered with double faults, Sabalenko comes back well to beat the Wimbledon champion, though it did take her 4 match points to get over the line. Now she's got her first major, wouldn't be surprised Sabalenko, with her power, goes onto to become a multi Grand Slam winner.

Well winning the US Open at 19 years of age, is not a bad start to his career.
-
10 Aussie Opens 22 majors now, looks like only injury is gonna stop Djokovic getting 30 grand slams.
-
Carlos Alcaraz has beaten Cameron Norrie in 2 sets at the final of the Argentina Open.
-
Andy Murray played his first match, since the Aussie Open, winning a final set tie break, Alexander Zverev up next.

I've never liked Murray as a player (as a bloke he seems decent) but credit to him for continuing to play on and fight, after the injury issues he's had. It must take a lot of commitment and determination.

Never heard it that way round before Rory - often hear that stupid anti-English nonsense that he gets accused of (he’s Scottish he should be anti English but the origin with Murray was him being done over by a presenter) - but never heard of anyone not liking him as player, sure the screaming at his coaches can be a bit tiresome but he’s a wonderful player when in flow. For me he is the best sportsman this country has produced in my lifetime…blessed and cursed that he played in the era of Roger / Rafa and the BellEnd

I find him rather crab-like.
-
Very impressive win from him over Zverev winning in 3 sets, now in the quarters of the Qatar Open.
-
Wins his semi, after saving 5 match points, will now be facing Medvedev in the final tomorrow.
-
Wins his semi, after saving 5 match points, will now be facing Medvedev in the final tomorrow.
Huge respect for this man.
-
Great win for Norrie over Alcaraz beating him in 3 sets in the Rio final.
-
Murray unfortunately has had to withdraw from this week's Dubai championship due to recurring hip injury, hopefully it is not too serious, also Raducanu has had to withdraw from a tournament again, this time it's due to tonsillitis.
-
Jack Draper Britain's best hope, since Andy Murray, beats Andy Murray in 2 sets at the Indian Wells Masters. Good news for Emma, she wins her match in 3 sets, through to the last 16, where she meets world number one Iga Swiatek.
-
Very impressive win by Carlos Alcaraz, still only 19, in the final beating Medvedev 6-3, 6-2, now number world no 1.
-
Sadly more injury woes for Emma, has had to withdraw from the Madrid Open, with a hand injury, hours before her first round match. Now she is almost certain to fall out of the top 100, how the mighty has fallen.

I'm starting to get worried about this young lady - and I say that as a fan. I'm also starting to question where are the parents? Or the management team or anyone that's in charge and running the show? She's gone through a bunch of coaches, doing countless endorsement opportunities and meanwhile she's played ten matches this year. TEN - a third of the year has passed already!
-
Not good news for the top players, following the news that travellers to the States will no longer need to be vaccinated against Covid, Djokovic will be able to play in the US Open.
-
..........and there we have it, Emma Raducanu to miss most of the summer. Ankle and double wrist surgery.
-
Good to see Andy Murray winning his first title in nearly 4 years, beating Tommy Paul in 3 sets, not a main ATP event but a win's a win. Now up to 42nd in the world, he's looking to get into the top 32, so he will be seeded for Wimbledon.
-
Djokovic beaten in 3 sets at the Italian Open by 20 year old Dane Holger Rune.
-
Not surprisingly Nadal will miss the French Open, says he believes 2024 will be the last year of his career.
-
Murray withdraws from the French Open, not a surprise.
-
Good, clay can’t be good on those hips
-
Murray withdraws from the French Open, not a surprise.
Why not a surprise?
-
Mikael Ymir disqualified for smashing a hole in the umpire’s chair.
Petulant tw@t.
-
Murray withdraws from the French Open, not a surprise.
Why not a surprise?
Clay court is not his favourite surface and his performances on the main tour on this surface has not been great this year, plus by pulling out of the French, he can focus on his Wimbledon preparations, starting with a grass court tournament next week.
-
I see Jack Draper has had to retire in his first round match due to a shoulder injury, sadly he's becoming almost as injury prone as Emma.
-
Novaxxs Djokovic is still a cock.
-
Cameron Norrie loses in 3 sets to Italian Lorenzo Musetti, which means after 3 rounds there are no Brits left in the mens and womens singles, not great.
-
One thing that's baffling me about the French Open. Whenever there's a close line call the umpire jumps down from his chair, points at the mark left by the ball and says whether it's in or out. Then you see the hawkeye replay so if they've got that, why is there a need for the umpire to jump down and do his pointy bit?
-
Alcaraz beats Tsitsipas in 3 sets, now meets Djokovic in the semi.
-
Jack Draper out of Wimbedon, shoulder injury.
-
Djokovic wins in 4 sets, was a cracking match for the first 2 sets, but sadly Alcaraz was suffering with cramp from the beginning of the 3rd set and Djokovic won the last 2 sets comfortably.
-
Djokovic wins in 3 sets, now moves 1 above Nadal with 23 Grand Slams.
-
Are we gonna see an Englishman win the Wimbledon Mens Singles Championship for the first time since 1936, no, are we gonna see someone win it, apart from Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray, for the first time since 2002, quite possibly, Carlos Alcaraz aged 20, already won the US Open and Queens last week, no 1 world ranked player and number 1 seed.
-

As long as Djokovic doesn’t win all will be grand.

Well I'll definitely be supporting him if he faces Djok
-
After going a set down, superb comeback from the defending champion Elena Rybakina to go through.
-
Brit Ryan Peniston, who lost to Murray today, qualified for Wimbledon by way a wildcard, despite being ranked 267 in the world, obviously Wimbledon like to get as many Brits into the Championships as possible, but I reckon that's pushing it a bit.
-
Dan the Villa man, just won the 3rd set tie break, could be a late night on centre, on BBC1.
-
Djokovic could win another 10 Wimbledons, but he would never get a reception like this.
-
Not unexpectedly the Just Stop Oil twats have hit Wimbledon, disrupting a match on court 18, mind you the weather is also not behaving itself!
-
Katie Boulter through in 2 sets, looked very impressive in the 2nd set, also had to deal with a 2nd protest in her match.
-
Tsitsipas beats Thiem 10-8 in a final set tie break, superb match, plays Murray next.
-
Brilliant from Liam Broady beating the 4th seed Casper Ruud in 5 sets, winning the final set 6-0 and Katie Boulter also through. Can Andy make it a treble?
-
Just caught of glimpse of Ivan Lendl in Murray's box. Looking rough.
-
Andy back in it 1 set all, but he does look cream crackered.
-
Probably suits Tsitsipas to continue tomorrow, his form certainly dipped in the 3rd set.
-
Pretty astonishing from Murray against a real top world star.
-
Pretty astonishing from Murray against a real top world star.
It really is. I really like the bloke.
-
Resumption of the Murray match is second match on centre court, after the Alcaraz match.
-
Murray match going to 5 sets.
-
Ahh that's gutting. That was there to be won in the 4th set.
-
Yeah it was, is that the last time we see him at Wimbledon?
-
Yeah it was, is that the last time we see him at Wimbledon?
You know what, I don't quite think so.
-
Norrie and Broady also out, Katie Boulter last Brit standing.
-
Boulter totally outclassed by Rybakina.
-
After saving 2 match points no 1 seed Iga Swiatek goes through, Djokovic match next on centre.
-
Djokovic had better get a move on, he's only got 2 hours before the local council kicks him out!
-

This is the biggest bunch of bullshit that there is out there. I am unshakeable in my belief that Murray would've beaten Tsitsipas if it weren't for Merton London Borough Council. Can you imagine this happening anywhere else? What a joke country we are sometimes.

Not 100% directly related but I was out in north London the night Murray beat Djokovic in NEw York in 2012 or 2013. The tennis was in the background but as the game wore on everybody in the pub switched their attention to the match. Murray was winning 2-0 and was dragged back to 2-2. A couple of games into the 5th set and the staff announced closing time and turfed everybody out. We asked if they could stay open, stop serving and take any remaining drinks away and let us watch the game but they were fearful of losing their licence.
I can’t think of another country I’ve ever been to where this would happen.
-
The booing of Azarenka is a f**king joke, like we have any idea of her thoughts on the war in Ukraine.
-
Alcaraz v Berrettini could be a cracker, the Italian at last seems to be returning to his best form, also Eubanks v Tsitsipas could be a good one.
-
Just watched the new teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva, she lost to Maddison Keys, but at 16 years of age she's some player.
-
Big upset Eubanks knocks out Tsitsipas.
-
From watching Alcaraz v Berrettini it seems both make too many mistakes to beat Djokovic on grass.
-
Big upset Eubanks knocks out Tsitsipas.
First match I've watched this year, saw the last 2 sets of that and enjoyed it. Eubanks seems a very likeable chap so was glad he won.
-

Has there ever been a sportsman who is the plural of another sportsman before?

Brilliant from Svitolina just now. Surely one of the great stories of any Wimbledon.
-
Big upset Eubanks knocks out Tsitsipas.

Has there ever been a sportsman who is the plural of another sportsman before?
Gary Stevens - in the same England squad in Mexico 1986?

Who is Gary Steven, though? If he is a sportsman then you've nailed it but I don't know who he is.

Thought you said, Gary Seven. Which made me think of:
‘Gary Seven is the major character in the last episode of the second season of the original Star Trek television series, "Assignment: Earth". He is portrayed by Robert Lansing.’ Wiki
Unlikely to be at Wimbledon this year, but you never know.
Well played, Eubanks!
-

Charlie Adam/Charlie Adams, both footballers.

Ahh yes, nice spot. I knew there had to be another somewhere.
-
Alcaraz v Medvedev has the makings of being a cracker.
-
Alcaraz v Medvedev has the makings of being a cracker.
Yeah, looking forward to it.
-
Svitolina knocked out, so there won't now be a Ukraine/Belarus final.
-
Jabeur through to the final, gonna be big favourite to win it.
-
Djokovic through, with a 3rd set tiebreaker, has now won 15 Grand Slam tiebreaks in a row, that ain't bad.
-
I think probably one of the most predictable finals you could get.
-
Stunning point to win it, wasn't the thriller I thought it might be, but well done Carlos and stunning last point.
-
Jabeur was terrible, but fair play to Vondrousova, that's brilliant from an unseeded player to win it.
-
Jabeur was terrible, but fair play to Vondrousova, that's brilliant from an unseeded player to win it.
Yeah, was hoping Jabeur would win it though.
-
In the women's game it seems anyone has a crack with a bit of luck and a purple patch of form. Preferable to Djokovic yet again but it would be good to see some genuine rivalries forming.
-
Don't think I've ever seen anything like Jabeur's performance -from good to awful and back again within a few minutes.
-
I haven’t watched tennis for years, caught a bit of the men’s final earlier, since when did line judges signal every bloody shot in? So distracting to watch, just signal when it’s out FFS.
-
It's epic stuff so far. C'mon Carlos!
-
Djokovic really is a prize wanker.
-
Well done Carlos!
-
Great match, wonderful finish and some exciting stuff along the way!
-
That was a good match.
-
Fucking get the absolute in.
-
Excellent.
-
I had never heard of Carlos Alcaraz before this tournament and given his record find it surprising that he was #1 seed. But he beat that utter twat Djokovic and just for that he is a hero
-
Apparently that’s the second time in all of his 70 odd Wimbledon matches that Djokovic has won the first set and not gone on to win the match. And in the first he retired injured.
-
I know next to nothing about tennis but Djokovic seems a complete prick. So happy days.
-
Apparently that’s the second time in all of his 70 odd Wimbledon matches that Djokovic has won the first set and not gone on to win the match. And in the first he retired injured.
Also, the first time in over 10 years he's lost a match on centre court.
-
... the wanker.
-
The geezer in the Djokovic camp wearing the blue Lacoste top looks like a cross between Tom Jones and Johan Cruyff.
-
I had never heard of Carlos Alcaraz before this tournament and given his record find it surprising that he was #1 seed. But he beat that utter twat Djokovic and just for that he is a hero
Me neither. He’ll be winning many more of these too I’m sure. 20 years of age and he’s won $21million in prize money already. Fair play to him.
-
Alcaraz is the first player outside the top 4 to win Wimbledon in 20 years.
-
Also it never ceases to amaze me how many famous people get lucky in the ticket ballot for Wimbledon.
-
Superb stuff from Carlos, a superstar is born.
-
I had never heard of Carlos Alcaraz before this tournament and given his record find it surprising that he was #1 seed.
Then you obviously don’t follow tennis, which is fine.
-
Also it never ceases to amaze me how many famous people get lucky in the ticket ballot for Wimbledon.
I'd imagine Brad Pitt gets lucky quite a bit.
-
Djokovic is probably one of the top 3 greatest players of all time, quite brilliant but I’ve never liked him. I’m not a huge fan of Nadal either with his constant picking his pants out of his arse crack all the time and being a clay court specialist. Federer was the most naturally gifted player I’ve ever seen and was smoother than anyone alive. I’m glad their era is coming to an end though as to be quite frank the last few years has been deathly dull with no new talent coming through.
-
Djokovic played well but there was just no way he could escape from Alacaraz.
-
The level of the tennis was incredible, I hazard to guess how many times I said "How the hell has he got to that?".
-
Six Brits, Boulter, Burrage, Murray, Norrie, Evans and Draper, all through to the 2nd round, blimey can't remember the last time that happened in a major.
-
After saying he reckons he's in the best form, since his injury woes started in 2017, Murray goes out in the 2nd round with a pretty feeble display against Dimitrov, beaten in straight sets. Good news is Boulter, Draper, Norrie all through and also Evans, the bad news is, next up for the Villa man, Carlos Alcaraz.
-
Djokovic had a bit of a scare last night, having to come from 2 sets down to get through, going for 3 Brits to get through to the 2nd week, Boulter, Norrie and Draper, unfortunately can't see Evans beating Alcaraz, but you never know.
-
Great effort from Dan, but Alcaraz was just brilliant.
-
Great effort from Dan, but Alcaraz was just brilliant.
I hazard to guess how many opens this lad is going to win.
-
Jack Draper loses in 4 sets to Rublev, great effort from him to get to the 4th round, having played only 2 matches since the French Open in May, due to injuries, at the age of 21 looks to have a great future in the game.
-
American Ben Shelton beats Tiafoe in 4 sets to reach the semi final, at the age of 20, becomes the youngest man to reach the US Open semis for 31 years, Djokovic next, which will gives us a good idea, how good this kid is, doubtful but there is a possiblity there will be 2 20 year olds in the final.
-
It would be nice to have a big change-up for the final. And, as enjoyable as it's been having the Americans starved of up-and-coming talent for the last while, having Gauff and Shelton in the finals would definitely make for a hothouse atmosphere.
-
Ladies US Open tennis final tonight.
Gauff v Sabalenka.
Am I the only one that wants Sabalenka to win. Just can't warm to Gauff at all.
-
Superb stuff from Gauff
-
A fine winner in the women's draw and an all-time legend boring as hell default winner in the men's. Djokovic is the Bayern Munich of tennis.
-
Not a great final too many long rallies, where both players were just hitting the ball back into play, waiting for the other player to make a mistake, but what surprised me about Djokovic, how good his volleying was, when he came to the net, he won virtually every point, when he used that tactic.
Understand, why he's not the most popular of players, but 24 majors is an incredible feat, looking forward to his matches, with Alcaraz next year, who's only gonna get better.
-
but what surprised me about Djokovic, how good his volleying was, when he came to the net, he won virtually every point, when he used that tactic.
yep....and Medvedev never adjusted for this. He was standing way back from the service line, so Djokovic would just slice his server as wide as possible to the love side and then Medvedev just had to much ground to cover.

Raducanu comeback. Playing in Auckland. Its where her season got off to a bad start last year, rolling her ankle on an indoor court that looked as if it had been put together in bus depot.
Interesting to see how she starts. She needs some ranking points.

Not worth starting a new thread. Can it be changed to 2023/2024?
Tennis season proper kicks off. Already a good performance earlier by Boulter. Came back from a set and double break down to beat Pegula (World 5) in United Cup. Although GB lost to USA.
Serious stuff starts tomorrow (very early hours UK) in Auckland. Gauff, Wozniacki, Svitolina, and Raducanu all on the same Court in the same day, if it does not p*** down with rain. Raducanu's first game since April.
Good test for Raducanu. Should win (against Ruse) if fit. And if she stays fit this year predict she will win, or go deep into, a few tournaments, and go deep into some Slams. Same for Draper on the Men's side.
Hopefully this year Boulter will establish herself as a top 50, of even 30, player. She should do. I think Murray will call it a day after Wimbledon. Norrie and Evans will continue to be decent players without doing anything special. The rest of the Brits will flatter to deceive as per usual.
One to watch, 15 year old Hannah Klugman. Hopefully will get a few wild cards into big tournaments, and could cause a few shocks.
