We go again.
-
Seem to have let a few go but not signed anyone yet? Hope they get a few in, soon.
-
Ramona Petzelberger gone
‘Declined an offer of a new contract’.
Mods….can’t we sticky this thread?
-
Mods, please can we just leave it so it's gets bumped if anybody is interested enough.
-
Same as per last season.

Not very encouraged by what we've been up to so far this off season. Hopefully there are going to be a large number of incomings by the start of the season.

We've got Magill
Super Simone Magill....
Check out Northern Ireland's and now Aston Villa Simone Magill Vs Norway in Euros today. Simone goals helped Northern Ireland qualifier and she is one of their better players.
Brought her in from Everton on a free and having been after her for the last year we finally land our woman.
She's a goalscorer and strengthens us in that area.
In the Euros I not sure how much goal attempt opportunity will get as Northern Ireland are one of the weakest teams. If Northern Ireland do score the probability it will be her. Nevertheless it's a great experience for her and the nation despite the likelihood of some big defeats and finishing bottom of the group.
(England , Norway and Austria)
We made a wise decision by announcing this in this time for peak euros and interest. Magill is a player whose ability is appropriate for our level club in the WSL.
-
Thanks F-V, I'll be at cricket but I had missed her signing.
-
Simone Magill showing she is a real Villa player already - going off with what looked like a fairly serious injury while playing in an international.
-
FFS.
-
ACL injury. ☹️
-
Jesus...out for most of the season, so?
Are we gonna keep hold of Lehman?
-
She was at the Walsall game, so hopefully. Although she could just be watching Doug and planning to leave if he does...
-
We've signed Danielle "Dan" Turner from Everton. https://twitter.com/danturner11/status/1546546585923993608
-
Asante replacement, by the looks of it. Pleasing to have us signing first team players from teams in our division. Welcome, Danielle.
-
Its not fair to be only interested in our women's team if we're doing well.
In the future, the WSL will be as closely watched and supported as the men's game.
I'm glad people are at least paying attention to the international tournament, even if the Aston Villa women's thread remains unpinned for some inexplicable reason.
Let's get behind the women's game shall we.

It's not inexplicable, most posters aren't remotely interested. It's a terrible standard of football, and in my opinion gets more attention than the quality deserves. They're trying to run before they can walk and pretend that they've got a competitive, fully formed league, when the disparities are far too marked.
-
Its football.
Its Aston Villa.
People will change if we win the WSL next season. Which is an unlikely event.
But I accept your point about the disparity in standards between clubs (due to resources), and until we win the league (if ever), I'll just be satisfied that at least we have a thread. I'm not pleased with how the majority of people here don't really care. But that's understandable. And I completely understand what you're saying, even if I believe it's not very supportive of women's football.
-
I’ve been watching our women’s team for the past few seasons, but I’ve never posted on here. Doesn’t mean I don’t care.
-
Good point. I quite often don't comment on the (men's) match threads but I still care.
-

Well I've been told majority of posters on here aren't interested. You're obviously not considered in that.
And good to hear. One for all and all for one.

I know you're supportive!

Good point. I quite often don't comment on the (men's) match threads but I still care.
There have been women's games on here where nobody has posted.
-
Given the reseverves and youth team have a sticky, it’s a little strange that the women who represent our club at the top level of the womens game don’t get the same recognition.
Shame really.
-

There have been women's games on here where nobody has posted.
I think that's the most fair point as it's accurate and for me on this debate I'll just be satisfied with a thread that can rise to prominence over time.
I rather it had own sticky as it were but that's how it is I guess.
-

Shame really.
It's not strange at all. The youth and reserve teams feed into the men's team which is what people are far, far more interested in.
-

I stopped posting about their matches because they did worse when I did and you know how I am about jinxing things. And I don't think anyone claims they generate as much interest as the men, but I think lots of Villa fans want them to do well and keep at least vaguely up to date with developments. They got over 8,000 for their last game, which is more than the reserves and youth ever get aside from cup finals, and you wouldn't say nobody cares about them.

New signing

Glad we seem to be adding a few players now. Welcome, Natasha.
-
Another one signed, two in two days.
That's good they need more experience in the squad.

4 in a week I think. Patten and Magill came towards the end of last week as well. Probably already need someone as cover for Magill though because it looks like she's out until christmas at the earliest.

That was very unfortunate for Magill, probably not play most or any of next season.

As above the talk seems to be that's she'll possibly be back early in the new year.

I do hope so paul_e but those ACL injuries can be tricky.

Indeed, it's just the little snippets I can find seem to lean towards "not a bad as it could've been".
-
Hope they have some Saturday home games and I will go and see them.

Ta mate, they don't say what day they're on yet though!
This is very true, I would imagine that it depends on which matches are being televised etc.

Another new signing!

A young goalkeeper from Wham. A interesting signing.
-
Ooh, pretty sure that's our first New Zealander. JD will be pleased.
-
Also a bit scary that someone born in 2001 is in her twenties. Where have all those years gone?

So long as Hampton is staying
-
Ooh, pretty sure that's our first New Zealander. JD will be pleased.
That's great news. A good young keeper (who's had lots of practice playing for NZ :)).
She will get better and the experience will be great for her.
-
Sevilla and Reading in pre-season, plus a bunch of behind closed doors games.

Lehmann signs a new one year deal. Good news. Does this mean Doug might be signing soon, I wonder?
-
Also, for FIFA fans, the WSL is in the next game (along with the French women's league).
-
Lehmann signs a new one year deal. Good news. Does this mean Doug might be signing soon, I wonder?
yes otherwise it will be awkward at the breakfast table :D
-
Although she's only signed a one year deal so they still could both leave next summer... hope not.
-
That's what I was thinking.
-
Beat Oxford United 6-0 behind closed doors in first pre-season game.
⚽ E. Rabjohn
⚽ Boye-Hlorkah
⚽ McAteer
⚽ Pacheco
⚽ Harding
⚽ O. Rabjohn
-
We've signed Kenza Dali, a French international. https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/august/05/kenza-dali-joins-villa-women-/
-
Hurrah.
-
Surreal
-
Rachel Daly, England left back signed today
-
Great signing, played every game in the Euros, has played in America and can play up front, too. Given that Pacheco was perhaps our best player last season I reckon Daly will play further forward than she did for England.
Feeling a lot more optimistic than I was a few weeks ago.
-
Rachel Daly, England left back signed today
That is good signing.
-
Downside is we have a fairly horrible looking League Cup Group Stage draw.
Man U, Everton, Sheff U and Durham with only the winner qualifying (I think).
-
Sounds like Daly is going to play in attack, as I'd hoped.
Rachel Daly: Versatile England international joins Aston Villa on a three-year deal - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62485070
-
Just heard the news fantastic signing, welcome Rachel.
-
Daly is a massive signing, we've got to be aiming a lotvhugher up the league after the signings this summer.
-
We're certainly investing in the Women's team, one of my favourite players from the Euro campaign and I like her tattoo . (I've a thing for women with tattoos, don't well Wilma)
-
Well pleased with this! Showing our ambition.
-
Wow this is a bit of a statement. Welcome Rachel!
-
She's a great laugh a great player and good person.
I know she's dedicated professional and this was a big deal both for her to come back to UK and for Villa women and WSL.
-
Wonder if Jill Scott will have another spell with us?
-
Wow this is a bit of a statement. Welcome Rachel!
Exactly what I said Sam
-
Wonder if Jill Scott will have another spell with us?
It's surprising she hasn't signed with anyone yet. Hopefully it'll be us.
-
And she's just retired (as, more surprisingly, has Ellen White) so won't be signing for us or anyone else, unfortunately.
-
Hannah Hampton not in latest England squad as :“She has some personal issues that she has to solve so for her at this moment it’s better for her to stay at her club.”
Hope all okay.
New Villa signing Rachel Daly is in.
-
On telly tomorrow, BBC Two at 1230 (coverage starts 1215). Home to Man City.
Thought worth mentioning in case anyone waw unaware. This would be an ideal opportunity to get this thread pinned, as it should always have been, so people don't miss out. 🙂

Please help ! Can you view the womens games FOC with a Mens season ticket ?
-
Please help ! Can you view the womens games FOC with a Mens season ticket ?
No. You used to a few years ago but they have their own season ticket sales now.
-
Had no idea this game was actually taking place at VP until I tuned in just now, was this game advertised once on Friday?
Guess they don' want to open the Holte due to costs but would be nicer visuallly to have some fans in the lower tier at least instead of cramming everyone in Trinity.
Will do well to get a draw from this, hopefully new signings do o.k.
-
Sounds like we have lots of players out. Would happily take a draw.
-
1-0 up thanks to Ms. Lehmann. 8)
-
GOOOOAAAAALLLLL
-
1 - 0 Villa!
-
What a finish from Alisha!
-
Let's go for the win. Draws are for squares
-
GOOOAAAALLL
-
Get in!
-
2-0! Another cracking finish.
When do City put on Haaland?
-
That was as good a finish as you'd see anywhere. Cracking goal.
-
What a goal that is!
-
The first goal was briliantly made by that tackle from us setting traps! Deano lives on!
-
2-1
-
Bollocks. They haven't deserved that. Hampton has to do better.
-
Shit..
-
Oh Hannah should be tipping that over the bar.
-
Have no idea what Hannah Hampton was playing at there.
-
Unforced goalie errors still seem pretty commonplace at this level.
-
Need a third goal to have a decent chance, I'd have thought.
-
crap
-
Shite. It had been coming.
-
ffs
-
Pathetic absolutely crap.
-
FFS. Not just the men that can't defend a two goal lead against a Manchester club. That soft goal before half-time changed everything.
-
Men or women samel old ..same old and shit again ..3rd goal for city..
-
Girls against women
-
Unforced goalie errors still seem pretty commonplace at this level.
Yes and size matters even more. Bigger taller girls have a much more obvious advantage than boy's game. .
-
Jaysus...worse than the men and they're pretty bad.
-
Get the fuck in.
-
come on.
-
3-3
-
Back in it again, this is even more entertaining than Friday night's game.
-
Come on Villa..
-
Setting traps ftw/draw!
-
Back in it again, this is even more entertaining than Friday night's game.
Yes different sort of entertainment but still on pathetic scale.
-
Is it obligatory to have a pony-tail in women's football?
-
Well, it probably stops it getting in your eyes.
-
How dare you
-
GET IN!!!!!!!!
-
YAAAAASSS
-
That makes up for the Happy Hannah fuck up.
-
Yay!
-
Should have been five and all over.
-
Whatever happens we look so much more exciting than last season going forward. Good to see. COYVG.
-
COYVW
-
COYVL
-
Fight fight fight. Don't let this go ladies.
-
Seven fucking minutes added on.
-
7 minutes??????
-
7 minutes??????
One for each decade of The Queen's reign.
-
7 minutes added time?
-
7 minutes??????
One for each decade of The Queen's reign.
She would have wanted that.
-
Dali is a good player, bit of an artist in midfield.
-
Some impressive time wasting here.
-
These girls know how to play out injury time.
-
That was a corner FFS.
-
Get that fucking whistle blown.
-
Well don you Villa.
-
Great result.
-
What a win. Well done all.
-
Fantastic..
-
Enjoyed that!
-
Well done Villa. Thank you..
-
Impressive. Take that you big club.
-
Grealish, Grealish, what's the score.
-
Grealish, Grealish, what's the score.
Was he wearing a pony tail?
-
No, he doesn't like to get his hair dirty when he's rolling round on the floor.
-
Well done ladies! Good weekend of results at Villa Park. 8)
-
Well done, great result, and game.
-
Enjoyed that!
-
That is a stunning result.
-
Dali and Daly...so good they named them differently!
Love the post-match huddle Captain Planet thing. Wish the menfolk did the same.
-
Not enough arguing with the referee.
Not enough screaming when touched.
Not enough rolling around in agony.
Not enough spitting.
Not enough shitty decisions in favour of the Manchester club.
So, not like real football then.
-
Grealish, Grealish, what's the score.
From Potential True Legend to Ratgirl.
-
I’ve just got back from my daughters first ever league match. She’s under 12’s and the first child of mine to actually enjoy football. I was so glad Villa signed Daly, my and daughter thought she was ace for England.
Cracking result, shame we missed it.
-
On my way back from the Villa great game. UTV.
-
Gate was about 6,000 according to Alex Scott which isn't bad.
-
6,785.
-
-
West Ham Women playing Everton Women now... while their respective men's teams play each other on telly. In terms of attracting attendances, that doesn't seem to have been very well thought out. Who decides the fixture dates, couldn't they have played yesterday?
-
Last season I'd have been happy to see Ward go, we were dull and defensive and seemed to accept that scraping 1-2 places out of the relegation zone would be enough.
Today was a completely different team, we looked like we had a plan of how to unsettle them and we followed it perfectly. We weren't intimidated and backed each other, the movement was good and we didn't let defensive errors ruin our morale or game plan.
I'd love to see the men setup to play with the same attitude.
-
We took our two boys today (5 and nearly 2). It was a great day out. With the fun zone and the more relaxed atmosphere, I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone taking young kids.
And the game was fantastic. I kept expecting Man City to go up a a gear, but we didn't let them. Pressing all over the pitch, we were aggressive without being reckless. Very disciplined, but adventurous when we got the ball. The balance was perfect, and every player seemed to know what their job was. It was the exact opposite of a the men's team - a squad becoming more than the sum of its parts. We thoroughly deserved the win, it was no fluke.
Great to see a decent crowd there too. Although I'm not sure what happened with the turnstiles before the match - huge queues to get in which meant most of the crowd missed the start.
-

I thought I had mis-read that on the BBC! Wow, both sets of teams playing each other on the same day/time.
-
West Ham play at Dagenham and they were at home yesterday so that must be it. Even so, play earlier or something like that to avoid the men's game.
-
Cracking win the the women's team, especially after going 2-3 down, would have been easy to throw the towel in at that point. Good start to the season.
-

This is only the 3rd year that the team have been full time professionals and in the WSL. I think the improvement have been excellent and we're now signing better players. I think a mid table finish is a real possibility.
-
Looking at going the Man U League Cup game at Bescot. It says "season ticket holders get this game free". I assume this just means women's season ticket holders and I wouldn't get in with my men's ST?
-

would think so. Mens ST includes first home cup game free. Problem is we never get a home cup game. E.g. Man U away in Caraboa Cup
-
True. ☹️

The women showing the men how to do it
-
Liverpool beat Chelsea. Probably a bigger shock than Villa winning. We are already above two of our title rivals in the league. 🙂
-
The lad who was mascot for today is our son's best mate at school. The Villa tentacles reach far into these parts.
-
Fantastic win ladies, Rachel Daly what a start to her Villa career.
-
Half-heartedly listening to R5, the presenters sounded impressed with the game.
-
I had tickets but couldn’t go due to family commitments, but I did watch the first half. It was a great watch.
-

I was surprised to hear Alex Scott say that Liverpool had just been promoted.
-
They won the league a few years ago then went shit. Not sure why, I didn't pay much attention to the top flight when Villa weren't in it.
-
It seems that it's still quite a volatile player-trading phase of the growth of the game where even the big clubs are vulnerable. Citeh, despite their riches, had a few retirements after the Euros and a couple more of their top players have moved to Barca/Bayern.
-
Just seen it on Women's Football Show, Rachel's first goal was class, we really have got top quality in her.
-
My daughter went with my sister and loved it. She wants to go to Leicester away next week. Do you know if villa sell an allocation of away tickets for womens games or do you just buy them direct from the home team?
-
I looked on the OS. The only away ticket is for Man U in December but 3 home games at Bescot are on sale.
-
Yeah I only saw Man U away and that’s not until December.
-
Rachel Daly was my favourite player when England won the Euro’s, so was over the moon when we signed her.
Playing in America has probably helped her to the level she’s at as they’re a few years ahead of us, development wise.
-

I think that’s something for us to value in the women’s game at present. It’s not all cut & dried like the men’s game yet
-
It's a shame there doesn't seem to be anything like a Women's Europa League. That might be a viable target for us.
-

The beauty of an internet/messenger/forum conversation.

Oh, sorry!!

Say what? ;)

🤣

For anybody wondering, Villa haven’t got an allocation for next Sunday but you can buy them direct from Leicester. Game is at the King Power and there is no segregation but away fans tend to head to block A1. £8 adults and £4 kids.
-
Can I get tickets without signing up to Lesta?
-
Can I get tickets without signing up to Lesta?
Unfortunately not but its quick, free and you'll never need it again.
-
Shocking that Citeh haven't been able to buy up the women's league like they have with the men's -we'll just have to enjoy ourselves for a while.
-
One nil up at Leicester after three minutes, Daly penalty.
-
Daly is a complete baller. Wish we had her on the mens team.
-
We're a bit ragged in midfield, but the defence looks solid enough.
No noyz from the lesta boyz.
-
Daly is a complete baller. Wish we had her on the mens team.
Early days, but getting her in is looking like a wonderful bit of business. Way better than that Iwabuchi deal, at least.
-
Ivanhoe is temporary Leicester manager.
-
Half-time still one nil. Finished the hald strongly after looking like we were hanging on a bit for much of the previous half an hour.
-
Ivanhoe is temporary Leicester manager.
So are the Leicester girls falling over every time they take a shot?
-
See Emile play.
-
Gielnik off the bench scores to make it two-nil.
-
Five minutes added on.
-
Back to back wins for the first time since winning promotion. Wasn't as exciting as last week but that'll do. Can't think of a real Leicester chance.
-
Are we gonna win the league?!
-
Are we good now?
-
Are we gonna win the league?!
No.
Are we good now?
Much better. Could be the "best of the rest" if two games is anything to go by. Onwards and upwards.
-
I would say very good, well done ladies, Man United next at home in the League Cup.
-
Thought we looked better once Lehman went off. Blindkilde looks a bit lightweight. The French lass Dali looks very good and Rachel Daly was class. Much better second half and Leicester didn’t look like they’d score if we played until next Sunday. Good result.
-
Are we good now?

Two games in and relegation already avoided, so definitely an improvement on the last 2 seasons.

FFS, we even get drawn with them in that?! Get those dirty hot balls out of the hat!
-
Another great result - well done Ladies.
And well done to the club too - the investment in the Ladies team has been first rate and can only help drive interest, revenue, and fan numbers up.

I'm not going to deny that I've quite some relief at simply putting six points on the board this early.

Credit where it's due.
"Wearing white clothing while on a period is an issue that has been highlighted by women across all sports."
The Baggies have announced a permanent change from white to navy shorts for their women's teams as a means of "reducing anxiety" for players whilst playing on their period
-
Such a simple, yet obvious thing to do. I hope we do the same.
-

Nah, navy just doesn't go with our kit... 😁
It is a simple thing to do, and claret home shorts would work well.

Nobody ever gave Gary Lineker brown shorts did they? DID THEY?!

Can usually watch here but I can’t see today’s game……edit again ……it’s there…..& again…..no…..that’s a game from April!
-
It's a cup game. It's on mutv. We're losing.
-
Oh no we're not! 🙂
Rachel Daly with the equaliser. She is already looking some signing.

she is great and lovely and makes me go all funny inside
-
One-all at the end of normal time, so one point each. We will now have a penalty shoot-out with the winners gaining an extra point.
-
1-1 after one each, Lehmann has scored ours.
-
Man U miss first!
-
Rachel Corsie, 2-1 Villa.
-
Daly misses, 2-2 after three each. Bugger.
-
Not for the first time, Le Tissier scores against Villa. And Dali misses. 3-2 behind after 4 each. 🙁
-
Man U miss... Still alive.
-
Mayling sends it to sudden death.
-
Man U miss again!
-
And so does Harding. On we go.
-
Leat saves Man U penalty... another chance to win it.
-
Pacheco scores, Villa win. That's both of the Manc bastards beaten in a matter of weeks 🙂
Sounds like our Kiwi keeper Anna Leat was the hero, JD.
-
I think I am in love 🥰 again 🥰

Does the Metro actually work now? Trying to work out if it's possible to get to Walsall for next week's game in lieu of trains.
Edit: strike is next week, game is week after, ignore this.

May well be on for this given the anti-social men’s kick off time!
-
Back to back Villa games, Saturday and Sunday. What could be a more fun way to spend the weekend? 😀

Drinking after the women’s game on Saturday, lie in before hungover men’s game Sunday!

Do you know how far Bescot is from the nearest Metro stop?

All Black Country, innit? Can't be far.
-
I reckon your closest/easiest stop is probably St. Chad's, jump on a bus from around there.
Now if they'd followed through with the Five W's loop they'd proposed at Metro's inception...
-
It's alright thanks, the trains should be running... fingers crossed.

That's fantastic CD. Will have to watch the highlights.
Big news over here.

I've been the Black Country Museum, I know how they live.
-
Can't find the thread?
Anyway, Rachel Daly has been named WSL Player of the Month. Hurrah.
In more typical Villa news, Emily Gielnik is injured again and out until at least Christmas.
-
Just below the Cameron Archer one.
-
Ah yes, sorry. I did scan this page several times.... hopefully a kindly moderator will be able to tidy up after me🙂
-
Many thanks.

Losing 0-2 to West Ham.
-
Lehmann penalty saved, stays 0-2. We're mullering these, I've not seen West Ham string two passes together since I've been watching.
-
1-2
-
Dali scores, 1-2, 13 minutes plus stoppage left.
-
Dali scores, 1-2, 13 minutes plus stoppage left.
It'd be surreal if we went on to win it.
-
Bit of fisticuffs going on now
-
One Spam player and two coaches sent off. Bit of an edge. It was into the first of 7 minutes stoppage time when the shenanigans kicked off, there's been one brief passage of play that's just ended with their keeper needing treatment, and we're now into the 97th minute. Should still be another 5 minutes, really. Still 1-2
-
Defeat.
Gerrard out.
-
Never deserved to lose that, battered them for most of the game. Their keeper who should have already been sent off saved a penalty.
Still, enjoyed the day out and will definitely go again.
-
Earlier in the week I thought about going, but somehow I'd got it in my head that it was tomorrow, to the point where I actually had a little tirade about fixture scheduling. It was only when dr.chekov posted about being 2 down that I realised I'd made no small error.

How did you get there and will you escape before nightfall?

Got the first train marked "Black Country". Back in Birmingham now, panic over.

You've been watching Lye haven't you?
-
Just got back from the game, my first women's match. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree that we absolutely battered them from start to finish. We gave away two sloppy early goals (sound familiar?) and missed a penalty, but definitely deserved something from the game.
Several Villa players caught the eye, especially Hanson on the left, Daley of course, Dali and Mayling at RB.
My daughter and I both noted that Lehmann wears her shorts shorter and tighter than anyone else, and plays in full makeup, including false eyelashes!
We will definitely be going again.
-
That bonehead Paul Konchesky got one over on us? At least he was sent-off at the end.
-
No excuses for me now, I've booked tickets for next week. Everton. Should be a closely contested game if one goes by the season so far. Both beat Lesta, both suffered single goal defeats to wham despite bossing the games. We score more, they concede fewer.
I like the family ticket pricing. Me and the young 'un for £13, £7.50 for his cousin. I'll be surprised if I ever again get to see the men for twenty quid.
-

There is no good comparison. Whilst the standard of football is poor it’s nevertheless entertaining. Prices wise you will pay similar to a National League game but men’s football player there is much higher level than WSL.
-
Price wise that's 2 levels below the National League.

Is that in the League, or League Cup? As think Everton are in our League Cup Group.

They also have bar staff at The Bescott that can pour more than one pint at once, it’s like witchcraft!

Why was Carla saying that the WH 'keeper should have been sent off after 30 minutes?
-
Why was Carla saying that the WH 'keeper should have been sent off after 30 minutes?
She tried to get to the ball first to hold onto it after we got a free kick, but our player got there first, so she grabbed her and hauled her to the floor. She got a yellow, I have no idea how it wasn’t red.

Wow!

Thanks, Amfy.

They kicked and niggled all through the game. The keeper should have gone, I was watching her as she hit out; the player sent off was still hitting out as she went off. Credit to Mayling that she didn't go down like a sack of spuds.

League today, away in the Cup on Wednesday.
I clocked a pay on the gate turnstile as we were coming in today, is that a regular thing? Is there one at VP when we play there? Would I be likely to find one at, say, Everton on a Wednesday evening?

Absolute sitter missed by Laure Blindkilde Brown so it's still nil-nil.

It says you can buy tickets from Goodison Road ticket office although, confusingly, the match isn't at Goodison Park. I'd maybe give them a ring to double check in case the website is providing duff information.

-
Similar to last week in that we are all over them and not scoring. Might help if Gielnik could ever go four minutes without getting injured.
-
Everton certainly aren't a small side.
Agree with you, cd. We should be at least a couple of goals ahead. A few too many loose touches around the box has seen chances evaporate too often.
-
Bollocks. Losing one-nil. Had plenty of chances to make a tackle and failed to do so.
-
We haven't been great since the goal. Nearly two-nil.
-
The ref is an absolute bellend.

The ref is an absolute bellend.
Can you call a female ref that? Isn't there a gender appropriate equivalent?

All of the "gender appropriate" equivalents are massively inappropriate, in their own way, I'd say. That's why I avoided them. 🙂
-
What are they , out of interest?
-
Erm, no.
-
Chicken.
-
Chicken.
Hen, surely?
-
Haven't really looked like equalising. The Bescot Curse continues.
-
And Daly off injured. FFS
-
Disappointing defeat. We don't score anywhere near enough goals, which will be even worse if Daly is crocked.
-
The ref was a knob.
-
Agreed.
-
Why is Hannah Hampton missing last few games? Seems odd that dropped by England and now out Villa team with no news made public
-
They just said she was out of the England squad for "personal reasons" but she has played for Villa since. Not sure if recurring issue or something else. We had an Academy kid as sub today.
-
Our home form under Ward is disgraceful.
-
1-1 after ninety minutes in the League Cup at Everton. It's going to penalties for the extra point
-
Lost the shootout 4-2.
-
Still, decent chance of going through if we beat Durham and Sheffield United, the two weakest teams in the group, as Man United lost on penalties to Durham.
-
1-1 half time v Chelsea
-
2-1 Chelsea
-
3-1

From The Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/oct/31/hannah-hampton-dropped-by-england-over-attitude-euros-winner-aston-villa)
Euros winner Hannah Hampton dropped by England over attitude
- Euros winner Hannah Hampton dropped by England over attitude
- Goalkeeper unlikely to play again under Sarina Wiegman
Exclusive by Suzanne Wrack
Hannah Hampton, a member of England’s victorious Euro 2022 squad, has been dropped by Sarina Wiegman because of her behaviour and attitude at the team’s camps, the Guardian understands.
The 21-year-old Aston Villa goalkeeper has not been called up by Wiegman since the Euros, where she deputised alongside Ellie Roebuck for Mary Earps, and is unlikely to be selected again under this England manager.
Hampton has not played for Villa since 25 September and was left out of the squad for Sunday’s defeat at Chelsea. She watched from the stands even though the manager, Carla Ward, has said Hampton was told to stay at home.
Multiple sources have told the Guardian that Hampton has caused problems with her behaviour and attitude in England age-group teams and at club level. The Football Association, Villa and Hampton’s representatives declined to comment.
Before England’s World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Luxembourg in September, Wiegman said Hampton was absent because “she has some personal issues that she has to solve so for her at this moment it’s better for her to stay at her club”. Hampton was also omitted for October’s friendlies against the USA and the Czech Republic and will not be included in the squad Wiegman names on Tuesday for games in November against Japan and Norway in Spain.
Hampton started the first two games of this season for Villa, the club she joined from Birmingham in July 2021, and then had a spell out because of an unspecified injury. Ward said Hampton was fit to play against Chelsea and that she omitted her “in the best interests of the team”.
Hampton travelled to Kingsmeadow and posted a photo from the stands with the caption “let’s go team” and “utv” (Up the Villa). Ward said after the match: “Hannah was available. Something happened yesterday, and we decided it was in the best interests of the team for her to stay at home so I did exactly that. That’s all I really want to say on the matter.
“I made the decision in the best interests of the team to leave her home and I left her home. I would probably prefer to talk about the 11 who were here.”
Hampton received a first senior international call in February 2020 for the SheBelieves Cup, when Phil Neville was the manager. She made her senior England debut on 20 February this year, starting a 0-0 draw with Spain in the Arnold Clark Cup, the friendly tournament organised to help prepare the Lionesses for the Euros.

That doesn't sound good.
-
I wouldn't believe a word that I read in the Guardian.
-
I wouldn't believe a word that I read in the Guardian.
It's in every other media outlet as well, take your pick. Apparently she was told not to go to the game and went anyway. To be sidelined by both Villa and England sounds like something's seriously wrong.

...but Suzy Wrack of The Guardian led with the story early this morning, Martin, and other media have simply picked up on the story (with no additional information) and, in some cases such as the Daily Mail (no surprise!), have printed erroneous headlines, although I notice that newspaper has since partially corrected the headline. Effectively, Hannah was 'dropped' when the squad was announced for the final two World Cup qualifying games against Austria and Luxembourg and did not feature in the squad for the subsequent friendlies against USA and Czechia. The squad for the November friendlies against Japan and Norway has not yet been announced so the timing of headlines, this morning, screaming that she had been 'DROPPED' (by England) is very suspect.
I believe that the words of Carla Ward have been twisted to suit an (MSM) agenda. Hannah travelled to Chelsea on her own and sat unobtrusively in the Chelsea section, although she was recognised in the crowd by fans of both teams. She posted an Instagram photograph/message that was supportive of her team but, interestingly, this has subsequently been deleted.
I hope that she is given time and space to resolve any issues which she has; clearly there is no smoke without fire but I do worry for her well-being after the intensive speculation over the past few weeks, which has come to a head today.
-
I doubt the MSM are sufficiently arsed about Villa Women to invent a conspiracy theory about them.

Really strange for Guardian to be running with this story, to be dropped by both Villa and England is most unusual. Obviously fuels ridiculous speculation about what she has done.

I thought the term now was #scummedia ?

MSM? Is Donald Trump posting on here? For fucks sake, can't you read a football gossip story without trying to equate it to some larger media conspiracy?

-
She's having a small "medical procedure (https://twitter.com/hannahhampton_/status/1587504992163958784)".
-
If that's the case, then it's a private matter and nobody's business but the England coach (and Villa's) seem to be implying something more worrying in terms of character.
-
Maybe it's a bit of both? Hope she's better soon anyway.
-
I doubt the MSM are sufficiently arsed about Villa Women to invent a conspiracy theory about them.
No-one said they were, Chris!
-
Hannah Hampton apparently fit for selection this weekend!
-
Hurrah 🙂
-
So was it much ado about nowt?
-
Must have been a very minor procedure, was she having a filling?!
-
On actual football matters Villa 1-0 up at Liverpool looking to get back to winning ways.
Rachel Daly our saviour. Penalty.
-
Well done Villa Women. Overshadowed today, but good to be back to winning ways and Daly is fantastic.
-
Daly scored the opener for England in a four-nil win against Japan. Dali played in France's win in Norway.

Dali had to get that on target.

We've made a last-minute disappointing decision to skip the game. The nipper seems to be struggling to shake a cold, and the missus has had her week of gall and kidney stones troubles capped off with shingles! We have it on the telly.
Bollocks.
-
Equalised.
-
Superb cross, one of those ones you knew was in before it reached its target. No less than we've deserved, despite some sloppy play.
-
2-1.
-
Two one to the goodies. Might have been Daly again, might have been an own goal. Right on half time.
-
BBC have given it to Rachel.

Animal. Bastard.
-
Villa pen.
-
And a hat-trick.

Daly hat-trick, she's joint top scorer now. What a signing.

Full time, 3-1. Fifth place after seven games, not bad at all.
-
Food was nice as well. </corporate sellout>
-
Well done ladies and particularly Rachel, what a player.
Will there be a Press Dave?
-
That’s a big win and hopefully puts the poor run behind them. They now have just over half the points haul from last season having played only a third of the games, a great start to the season!

Should be one up.

1-0 Daly

Lovely goal. Great ball in to the box.

;D

-
10 in 9 in all competitions for Daly for us this season. Not bad for a fullback!

Isn’t she normally a forward, but only plays FB for England?

Yes

She's some player.
-
I think Daly has galvanised the women’s team into being better but I’d also add the French lady, Dali as having had a huge impact as well. That’s 2 international class players added to a mid to lower table squad. The recruitment this summer was very good and will have us hopefully 5-7th in the table.
-
Some big challenges coming up though, if we can get some points from the next four league games, we will be in a really strong position. Man U, Arsenal, Spuds, and Man City The Return.

Live on Sky, 12.30 kickoff for them what fancy a gander. COYVG!
-
Be nice to beat these bastards for the third time this season. That's more than we usually manage in twenty years. Mon Villa!
-
Only three outfield subs due to injury crisis. ☹️
-
And Daly down injured after a minute. FFS.
-
Seems like she's okay.
-
Losing. Had a couple of chances to clear it and failed to do so. That's their first real chance, too.
-
Arguably a foul on Pacheco, IMO.
-
Two chances two goals. Was worried about missing the end because I'm heading to the pub at two. I'm not worried, now.
-
We've got Rachel Daly CD, quite capable of getting a hat trick!
-
Much better Villa
-
Can someone tell the one commentator that she’s not on MUTV today?
-
We've got Rachel Daly CD, quite capable of getting a hat trick!
It might need a double hat-trick given that we concede every time they have a shot...
-
Goal disallowed for offside. Very close. Home decision.
-
About 1/2 inch off.
-
That was a cracking shot from Lehmann.
-
I think going to the pub and missing the end is a wise decision.
-
Still can't work out if Carla Ward is a decent manager or not.

Manchester United 5-0 Aston Villa: Hosts earn dominant win at Old Trafford - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/63765143
-
I watched part of the first half. I thought we played some decent stuff at times, and made some reasonable chances. Unfortunately, they seemed to be able to score at will. The first goal was a scramble that should have been dealt with by the keeper I thought. The second was a good through ball, and finish. It might have been a different game if one of our chances at 2-0 had gone in.
-
We are terrible. I’m sure I’m about five years time we will be decent.
-

Hardly fair. They have improved season after season and currently have an injury crisis.
They’re achieving what the men’s team have failed to do so far in the top flight. They still have a way to go, but you cant argue with year on year progress.

I'd agree with this we still can't compete with Arse/Chels/ManU but we're competitive with the teams from 4th down to 8th now which we weren't even last season.
-
Can someone tell the one commentator that she’s not on MUTV today?
The commentary sounded like the Man Ure fan club.

that's what I thought, shouting at the telly telling her to do one

Very harsh when you think where we were as a women's team in 2018.

Away to Sheffield United in League Cup Group Stage in one minute. If we win and Man U do us a favour by beating Everton, we win the group and make the Quarter-Finals.
Good news is Man U kicked off at 7 and are already 4-1 up so looking like it's just down to us to do our bit... COYVG.
-
Villa two up! Hanson and Dali.
-
Also, our Women's Academy side beat Small Heath 4-2 earlier.
-
Half time, still two-nil. Man U still 4-1 up with just over twenty minutes left.
-
Man U win 4-2. We are still two-nil up, just need to win to top the group.
-
Sheffield United pull one back. Need to hold on or we will need favours from other teams to go through.
-
Think we are through
-
Won two-one. Through as Group Winners. Hurrah.

Rachel Daly wins November Player of the Month. What a signing she has been.
Different class!
-
Her gap-tooth is a throwback, didn't think they made footballers like that anymore.
-
The fact that she hasn't had it done is endearing, IMO.
-
Absolutely
-
she is lovely ❤️
-
Wrong thread.
-
We've got 12 players out today, only goalie and 3 outfield players on the bench. Leah Williamson on the bench for Arsenal.
-
Big game today.
-
1-0 8)
-
Stunning goal from Hanson!
-
Decent start.
-
Cracking goal Kirsty Hanson.
-
Playing against twelve here.
-
Own goal. One all. Jammy bastards.
-
Bollocks. 1-2.
-
England skipper coming on.
-
3-1, all over. We had been on top, too.
-
Goalie at fault.
-
Not much luck today with the own goal and the rebound falling perfectly for the third goal. By contrast we just had a shot saved by their keeper fall straight to an Arsenal defender.
-
Very harsh scoreline IMO. Bet Iwabuchi scores just to rub it in.
-

Agreed, for the second successive week. The team has improved markedly over the past twelve months or so, Daly, Dali and Hanson all making a big difference.
-
Blimey, we don't do draws, do we? Although, looking at the league table, not many teams do! Not sure what that shows...too many uncompetitive games?
-
Blimey, we don't do draws, do we? Although, looking at the league table, not many teams do! Not sure what that shows...too many uncompetitive games?
Yep,
Most teams lose to the top 4 then manage to beat each other and generally beat the bottom 2 or 3.
-
Drawn at home to Solihull Moors or AFC Fylde in FA Cup.
-
Bloody Hell, both the men and the women get decent cup draws. Apocalypse imminent.
-
It didn't last. Drawn away to Arsenal in the League Cup Quarter-Finals. That's probably the end of that, then.
-

Good point; all is not lost.
-
We've signed Jordan Nobbs from Arsenal. Not quite as big a coup as Daly but another very experienced England international in the squad. You can't say we haven't put the money into the squad now, hopefully it'll be reflected with a much better league position.
-
Massive signing for the ladies again, she's very experienced and was a regular England international til a couple of years ago (think injuries have held her back a bit). Classy midfielder though and shows we mean business.
-
Really pleased with this. When we get some players back from injury we will have a decent squad.
Still, we’re in a tough run so it would be great if she hits the ground running.
-
Another good step forward for the women’s squad.
-
The Telegraph reporting we are set to sign Lucy Staniforth from Man U.
-
Don't the women have a transfer window or can they buy and sell any damn time they choose?
-

Same as the men's, afaik. So it's open now.

I will refrain from making any comments about shopping habits.

understandable, you mean where someone like my wife who buys something and take it back to the shop because they don't like it, sort of thing we should have for men's football
-
Lucy Staniforth over the line!
-
I'm trying to cajole the family into going on Saturday. I'm looking at available tickets, and I can't help thinking that one of our players might have more than a little influence on which tickets sell first. Or maybe it's the hotdogs, I dunno.

-
Great start, beat the press and get a shot off on target.
-
Sake. Spurs first real attack and they score. I still reckon we're still going to win this, just need to find a bit more composure in the final third. There's been a few too many overhit through balls.
-
1 each, Dali beats the keeper's right hand.
-
1-1 Now.
-
2-1. Hunted the ball down, moved forward quickly, and a simple finish for a player of Daly's quality.
-
We're definitely second-best this half. Nobbs off, not had the biggest of impacts. Lehmann on in place of Hanson. However, we're not being carved open despite their domination of the ball, and if I was to bet on there being another goal in the game, I'd put it on Daly getting it.
-
Beth England over the bar there thankfully saving me from having to eat my own words.
-
Once again, spurs come out losers against the Villa. We're up to 6th in the table.
-
One more win and we will equal the amount of wins from last season, 6 points to equal that tally. Not even halfway through the season, this team is making huge progress.
-
Always nice to beat Spuds. The womens team has improved ten fold since I started paying attention a few years ago.
-
Great win Ladies
-
Always nice to beat Spuds. The womens team has improved ten fold since I started paying attention a few years ago.
Look at the transfer policy. We're now a home for players from clubs currently ahead of us that have been nudged down the team sheet by bigger buys, yet still want to stay in International reckoning in a World Cup year.
-
The mens and ladies teams just don't do draws. Finally, we're never being boring.
-
Superbly done, hardly any acknowledgment on Sky Sports 😃👍
Keep upsetting everyone, we like it!
-
I see Iwabuchi is on her travels again. Off out on loan to spuds for the rest of the season.
-
She can't have played much football since she left us.
-
About 8 games I think

-
Half hour gone and it’s 1-1
-
Half time 1-1…pretty even game with Villa just beginning to edge it.
-
We do look threatening every time we go forward.
Two subs at half time, Lehmann and Corsie on for Turner and Blindkilde
-
We're all over them. Hanson hits the post.
-
A teasing cross from Daly evades Lehmann's outstretched boot by inches.
Strike from Dali pushed away.
COYVG!!!!
-
Late sub, Nobbs off. She's ran herself into the ground today.
-
If Lehman is still on I might flick it.
-
Over.
-
A minute to go, and Leat makes a good save.
All over, 1 each. A hard earned but fully deserved point. We move into 5th for now.
-
Well played ladies very good result.
-
Its great the ladies team are helping build the fanbase, revenues, and appeal of the club - not sure if this is right but was told Lehmann's shirt is the 5th best selling at the club.
Well done to the ladies and all concerned.
-
Watched most of the second half and we looked about as likely to score as Man City. Dali is a cracking player.
Thought our LB (Pacheco?) struggled a bit defensively.
Nobbs has always been an excellent player, glad to have her playing for us.
-

She can't get a start though, is she worth more to us off the pitch?
-
It's only the last couple of games that she's fallen victim to our squad progression, and she's still been a half-time substitute in those. She's still a very good player for the level we're at.

Have to be a subscriber to read all of this unfortunately but things sound good.

We've just gone 2 down early in the second half away at arsenal in the League Cup.
We've a way to go before we match the likes of these, but we're heading in the right direction.
-
Very weakened team tonight though..
-
Carved open, 3-0
-
Finished 3-0. We never really looked like scoring, which is strange.
-
Very weakened team tonight though..
Ward do an Emery on it and play the stiffs? Ffs, we're in midtable, nothing else to play for etc etc....

Not really. There were 4 changes from the game v Man City. Anna Patten is on loan from Arsenal so couldn’t play against them, Dani Turner came off injured in the last game and Lucy Staniforth is cup tied. The other change was in goal but we replaced our no.2 keeper with our no.1. Losing both centre halves was the major blow. We had to play Rachel Daly in defence and missed her up front.
-
Currently showing how to beat a much lower league side in the cup. 6-0 up inside 26 minutes.
-
We are well into typing the amount of goals we have score territory
Aston Villa 10 (ten) AFC Fylde 0

Blimey, 21 shots on target so far. 11-0 now. Good stuff Villa.
-
Finished 11-0

Brilliant win. Sets us up for the inevitable draw of Chelsea away in the next round.
-

Unsure, but the 11-0 win equals the Super League scoring record set by Arsenal v Bristol City on 1st December, 2019, but that score was 11-1, and Vivianne Miedema scored 5, with our top scorer today being Rachel Daly (unsurprisingly!) with 4.
-
AFC Fylde Women are in the Women's National League North which is effectively the third division and the same division as West Brom and, strangely, Boldmere St. Michaels.
-
2 short of our (mens) record score and Daly one short of equalling the mens five goals in a game record - pity she missed a penalty.
-
Well done ladies, perhaps this is our year for The FA Cup after all.
-
2 short of our (mens) record score and Daly one short of equalling the mens five goals in a game record - pity she missed a penalty.

Correct, 13-0, FA Cup Round 1, 30th October, 1886. Can you tell I've got insomnia? ;)

It's absolute nonsense comparing scoring records in the men's and women's game. You don't see people in tennis comparing the number of grand slams Serena Williams won to Nadal for example. Even the BBC were at it a while ago, saying a women's player had broken Jimmy Greaves' scoring record for England. Completely ignoring the fact that the England Women's team have scored 80 goals with none conceded in their World Cup qualifying group, including beating Latvia by a combined 30-0 home and away.

At last some common sense. I really like watching the top level womens game as it has improved in quality immeasurably over recent years, but it is not comparable with the mens game and to think other wise is lunacy and is insulting to the womans game. They should be judged on their own merit

I agree, but then I also think it's nonsense comparing scoring records for countries like Australia or Japan to those in Europe or South America. Teams in Europe and SA rarely play agianst sides where scoring double figures is expected.

I agree, despite my earlier post pointing out how close the women came to equalling the club records of the men, but then records themselves are nonsense really when comparing across different eras because the game is incomparable in so many ways now to how it was years ago.
When I was growing up the media would talk in terms of post-war records, which you don’t hear anymore but was a fairer comparison during the 60s & 70s. It wouldn’t be now though.
-
Carla Ward wins WSL Manager of the Month, fully deserved well done Carla.
Very well done.
-
She's doing OK.
-
I really want to get to both senior games on Saturday. They don't make it easy with 1230 & 3 kickoffs. And when I factor in the aftermath of Friday's train strike it might prove undoable. I'll be putting a lot of reliance on the existence of the one train scheduled to run from Bescot to Witton between the women finishing and the men starting.

5.

Hat trick of assists and a goal for Hanson
-
Half time. 5-1. Not joking, I think if we score very early in the second half Brighton will fall to pieces, and we could be scoring double figures.
-
Hat-trick for Nobbs. 6-2, still 20 minutes to go
-
Would be nice to get a 7th so we haven’t got a negative goal difference
-
Not to be. All over, 6-2. Another imperious performance from Nobbs, what a piece of business it was getting her.
-
Hat-trick for Nobbs, you'll bever sing that.

Up The Villa
-
Made some very good signings over last 12 months and Ward is clearly a decent manager.
Not going to challenge the top 4 anytime soon (sounds familiar) but certainly in good place to be best of the rest which is good going considering it's only third season in the WSL.

Man Utd Women have only existed for 5 years and are top. We're already settling for second rate in the Women's football.

Get the defence sorted and we might be top 3 at a push. We are 5th with the 5th best scoring record but joint 4th worst defence out of 12.

I was at that game at Boldmere. Casey Stoney was their manager. Many of the squad went on very quickly to become Lionesses. This was no fluke or underdog story.
-
It's also worth noting that the Man Utd Womens team that formed was based around a lot of players who had come through their academy system and moved away when they got to senior level, combined with/including them taking an entire defence from liverpool.
The road was always goig to be longer and harder for Villa and our progress this season in particular has been incredible.
-
It seems I'll have to follow our FA Cup exploits at West Ham this afternoon on ceefax, from the look of things.
Still be better than watching this spurs game, though.

Spurs ruined my acca with their ineptitude, so it brings me some little delight to report that they've subsequently lost on penalties.
We're still winning with a couple plus stoppage to go. Bossed it, from what I can tell.

It was the respective 'keepers that took what proved to be the final penalties. Hannah Hampton, hammer-hammerer.

What's the furthest we have progressed in the Women's FA Cup? Is this the best we have ever done?

What's the furthest we have progressed in the Women's FA Cup? Is this the best we have ever done?
I don't know, and there's a huge dearth of info to enable one to find out. I came across one vague stat that intimated we'd played three games in it in a season once when we were a lower league side, so I'm going to hazard a guess that we've never been beyond the last eight.

Well done ladies, does anybody know when the draw is?

Can't seem to find out when the draw is.
Think it was done on the Tuesday following the weekend's games last year, so maybe Tuesday?

There's a clip of Hampton's penalty on the AVWFC Instagram page. I do not blame the west ham 'keeper for choosing life!
-
Having been at Goodison yesterday, it all looked set to be a perfect double with 92 mins gone at Daggers today.
We were a bit lax towards the end, but scored a perfectly good goal right at the death that was ruled out massively incorrectly by the ref, who got dog's abuse from all and sundry for her troubles. Their keeper lost her bearings slightly under the crossbar, catching a cross; promptly dropped it at the feet of a Villa player to prod it home.
Nice to know that reffing is just as bad in both leagues (shout out to a poor ref yesterday at Everton).
Cracking shoot-out. Special mention to Hampton's shithousing – she did the Emi trick of chucking the ball past their kick taker to put her off, successfully. Then when the away end told her where the Hammers keeper was hiding her water bottle with the peno instructions, she promptly threw it into the away end. Just a shame that a steward went and fetched it back.
Quality pen from Hampton at the death. And the Hammers keeper put every goal kick wayward to the right all game, so no surprise she did the same into the away end.
Delightful stuff, and thoroughly deserved.

I've just seen that on the highlights. Proper 'wtf??' From the reaction of the players at the final whistle, I'm assuming a satisfactory explanation from the ref was not forthcoming.
Once again Dali looked very good from what was shown, silky player. And Daly should score even more than she does.

From the highlights, the ref is staring at the area in front of the goal constantly so I'm guessing a perceived foul in the bunch before the keeper dropped it.

Everton Women v Aston Villa Women - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64775017

In our quest to cement fifth place, we're away at Everton today. A win would mean Everton's game in hand wouldn't be enough to overhaul us. It's live on the FA Player, but for some reason there's no commentary.
We've taken the lead in the fifth minute, Dali with a shot far scruffier than the move that led to it.
-
Commentary's on. Might've been me telly.
-
Midway through the second half and we go 2-up. Pacheco raids forward from fullback, and slides a telling ball across the six yard box that's turned into her own net by the retreating opposition defender. Sounds familiar...
-
Good away win, well done ladies.
-
Finishes 2-0. We'd have to have a massive drop-off in form to finish lower than fifth now. We're tantalisingly close to the top 4, but with our eight remaining games to play including man u, Chelsea and Arsenal I think the final gap to the three European places might be a few more than the six points it was a few minutes ago.
Still, we're improving year on year, hopefully make another two or three good signings in the summer, and if we can get another good year out of the core of this group I think we can properly trouble them next year. Onwards and upwards.
-
Locked in midtable now, a bit like the men's. Hopefully they don't all switch-off for the season now, go off on holiday to some Love Island, and make Villa babies together.

Think they’re a bit above that, mate.
Clear in 5th now.
Man U, Man C, Chelsea and Arsenal above us, those 4 are well in front of everyone else, so we’re literally best of the rest
-
Well, I've sorted the missus' Mother's Day pressie. She's off to The Poundland to enjoy the glory of the Cup.

Your Villa side to take on West Ham today at 3 o'clock. It's live on the FA Player, if the thrills and spills of the men's game is too much for you.

2-1 the Villa, Nobbs and Daly with ours. That's our first win over West Ham in the WSL, and puts us ten points clear of them.
-
It's a bit crap that the mens and womens games clashed with identical opponents playing and the same club being at home for both.
Why not have it as double-header at West Ham's stadium?
-
Not double-headers, I think we're a long way off that being viable, but I would like to see some coordination with consideration towards those supporters that would like to be able to support both of their club's men's and women's senior sides. I tried to do it the other week with 12.30 and 3 kickoffs, and I couldn't manage it. Their was one train scheduled between Bescot and Witton between the games, but that opened the can of worms of using public transport to get to Walsall beforehand. I could've driven, but I think the closest parking I'd get to VP after leaving the Poundland at 2.20 or whatever time I escaped there would likely be closer to Walsall than Aston.

FA Cup QF kicks off at 6. The other three played at 2, manyoo seeing off the mighty Lewes, Brighton matching their men's achievement through
beating blose, and Chelsea beating Reading. All we've got to do is make it a hat-trick of unbeaten games against Citeh this season to join them.
It's live on the FA Player app & website.
-
1-0 up Corsie.
-
Started 100mph ! Settled down a bit but this is a good game!
-
The chants of "Manchester,la,la,la" are getting on my baps
-
I hope I see as little of the second half action as the column afforded me towards the end of the first. Bright start, tremendous top corner effort from Daly to win the corner that led to our goal. Anybody that gets nervous watching our men playing it across the back would have kittens with the women! We've definitely got the pace to get in behind a very high Citeh line, but we're having trouble getting those valuable extra split seconds in midfield that make all the difference in getting the perfect pass off.
Still in this. Glory awaits!

Fuck,this is a hard watch

Dali and Nobbs can barely walk. Left nothing on the pitch.
-
Well done Villa great win, Rachel Daly is a superstar.
-
Enjoyed that much more than the Lionesses. Makes a difference really wanting one team to win obvs, but unless my mind is playing tricks I think the football was much better than the Euro final.

A shock upset according to the BBC.

Dali and Nobbs can barely walk. Left nothing on the pitch.
Didn't watch the game tonight, but I've been really impressed by Dali whenever I've seen her play.
-
I think what tonight highlighted was how stretched we are. We've a core of 12 or 13 that have to play every week. Citeh made wholesale changes during the game, we make our O'Neill-esque swap of Blindkilde and Lehmann and then we've pretty much used up our game-changing resources, ending up with most of the 30-something brigade of Stanisforth, Nobbs, Dali, Daly and Hanson having to play two hours of football to see us through. We need a good summer window, otherwise we could end up going backwards rather than forwards.
-
Stupid question but I don’t suppose the semi finals are played at Wembley are they?
-
Seems as though the semi final draw means something as semi finals are played at the home side's ground. No idea if that has changed for this season but that's how it's been the last few years that I looked at. Last year West Ham lost at home (in Dagenham) to Man City, att 1,565. And in the other semi Arsenal lost at home to Chelsea (in Borehamwood), att 3,458.
-
A shock upset according to the BBC.
Despite us being unbeaten against them this season!
I saw a stat that in the past 10 years, Man City have either won the cup or lost to Chelsea. I’m that respect, it is a bit of a shock
-
The draw is on Tuesday morning around 9:45am btw
-
Hopefully if Man City are found guilty of FFP breaches their women's team is stripped of their titles and relegated along with the men's team! A Great win for our women yesterday! One newspaper highlighted that this win has breathed new life into the competition.
-

Brighton at home, please, while the memories of putting six past them are still fresh. Worry about the final once we're in it.
Without wishing to jinx it, I'm not sure what happens about ticket allocation for the final. I'm assuming there's plenty held back for the two competing clubs, but there was an announcement at the game last night about "get yours now" and that 40,000 have already been sold.
-
A word for the Manc mouthpiece The Guardian here, who have been pushing the women's game for years now. They'd have live feeds for women's matches above Championship matches when we were down there, and fair enough, the game needed that kind of promotion.
So we dump one of their teams out and there's not a mention of it anywhere, despite a full write up on Utd beating Lewes. Wankers.
-

Yes a great win! Man City bought or influenced their way, rather than played their way into the WSL in the first place, similar to what Arsenal men did to get into the top tier after the the First World War.

Same on BBCBreakfast, where they showed the goals and gave a cursory mention to the other semi finalists.

Chelsea
Man Utd
Brighton
Hope avoid Chelsea Women as they are superior by far.
They won it last 2 years and 3 times in 5. I can't see Villa Women beating them.
Man Utd would be difficult but a great match and a chance but not favourite for the tie.
Brighton would be the draw would be most favorable to reach the FA Cup Women's Final.
It would be the first time Villa Women reach an FA Cup Final and it's been a good progression from last year and this year to the semi.
-
A conspiracy theorist where the FA Cup draw is concerned, it will obviously be Chelsea v Villa and Man Utd v Brighton.
-
Chelsea at home. Even this draw they made out we're the plucky underdogs who will make the numbers up as the media darling Chelsea march on to another victory.
-
Weekend of 15th / 16th April. Villa are at home on the 15th but Walsall are away so I bet the game will be at Bescot.
-
Chelsea at home. Even this draw they made out we're the plucky underdogs who will make the numbers up as the media darling Chelsea march on to another victory.
Unfortunately that's the case. Most difficult team to play of those left.
Chelsea along with Arsenal Women are one of the best in not just English but women's football.
-

A conspiracy theorist would have their beliefs bolstered by the cameras cutting away from the all-important velvet bag after each ball. Take it fucking seriously, you disrespectful ******.
-
I hope they will set a kick off time that doesn’t clash with the men’s fixture. I’d really like to take in both games if possible.
-
Villa ladies have got Chelsea at home in the league on 2nd April, so with the men, I'm going for an April treble for us over The Pensioners!
-
I hope they will set a kick off time that doesn’t clash with the men’s fixture. I’d really like to take in both games if possible.
Same here. Early kick-off at VP for the men's game, so would be great to head over to Bescot for a 4.30ish kick off on the Saturday.
-
According to the BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65025012), who I assume will be broadcasting them, both games will be played on the Sunday.
-
It would be madness - loads of us heading from VP to The Bescott after the men’s game? I know it’s a 2 hour gap & the capacity at The Bescott isn’t massive, but it just feels quite a hassle.
It’s bad enough with just people going home in that direction!
Also - watching 2 games in a row doesn’t really appeal to me if I’m honest.
Sunday for me.
-
It's definitely on the Sunday, just the question of where. You'd hope that it can be held at Villa Park and we can get a record crowd in for it, but I wonder whether the FA and or Chelsea wouldn't agree to that with us already having the advantage of playing the game at home.
-
If it’s Sunday, the Bescott market apparently puts it right back to 6pm, so I hope it is Villa Park. I don’t really see how they can object, we have already used it for home games this season and other women’s teams have had big crowds at their traditional (men’s) grounds too.
-
Last year the semis were played on different days. The BBC seem to show them live. I reckon we'll play it at Bescott as unless the club an amazing job pushing the game I doubt there'll be much over 5k watch it wherever it is.
-
What might sway opinions is whether we can sell out for the game at VP this weekend against Leicester. There's bugger-all left pitchside in C, but still plenty of availability, over 700, in B.
I'm pencilled in for not going, as I'm meant to be working in London. But if circumstances allow, I'll be doing my utmost to sneak back for it. I've not yet watched the women at VP.
-
When they've played at Villa Park in the last 12 months the crowds have been in the 8-9k range, so if they push this properly (which they should given it is effectively the biggest match in the women's team history) then I don't see why they couldn't get 15k in for this one. This is also one to maybe give a bit back to the community and have free tickets for school parties etc - it's how the likes of Arsenal and Spurs have managed to get crowds approaching 50k in for some of their games.
-
We should have it at Villa Park with women's season tickets holders free and men's season ticket holders half price. Lets get 30k+ there. Away end tickets £45 no concessions.
-
Plus we can extend our record of FA Cup semi finals being held at VP (wink)
-
Half price? It's only a tenner anyway, fiver for kids.
-
And we still only get 8k ish. I was thinking of ways to really fill it
-
It’s a shame it’s on a weekend that the men are also at home. If the men’s team were away, or it was during the international break I reckon more would be up for it.
-
It's showing as 2pm Sunday at Walsall on the official site. But I haven't seen that announced anywhere.
-
Planning on making the trip down for the semi final ... My little girl is properly excited about seeing the Villa lasses for the first time :)
-
Planning on making the trip down for the semi final ... My little girl is properly excited about seeing the Villa lasses for the first time :)
Enjoy the occasion! It will be a very tough match to get through, and hopefully, we make a match of it and not too one sided.
Chelsea beat Lyon in Lyon yesterday Champions League Quarter final.
But there are some quality players at Villa Women at the moment who can certainly make us competitive.
It's a great progression, whatever happens, as it's all about improvement and becoming consistently competitive.
And for the love of football itself it's fantastic to have our club in the semi finals and it helps gain further interest and excitement for women in sport and inspires those watching.
-
Will it take an FA Cup win for Aston Villa Women to get their own pinned thread?
And there's going to come the time when Villa Women players will be having their own threads on here so lets embrace. I think there is going to be much as interest in women's and men's football as years go on and it's here to stay.
-
The site have unpinned other threads which had been pinned for years because they hang around at the top. Although as we do have the reserves and others pinned, I don't see why we shouldn't.
-
I say create a separate section on H&V for the women's team. Then people interested in it can have all the threads they want. Although going by a lot of the match threads, it'll be fairly quiet.
-
Just bought three tickets for tomorrow. I noticed they've opened the Holte for this. Only my old championship protest home of L9 it may be, but still, more encouraging signs on the sales front.
-
Might be a stupid question, but are there many (any) villa fans in the Bartons before the women's games? Going with my teenage daughter and my wife tomorrow. First visit to Villa Park for my daughter and first since about 2004 for the wife. Would like to pop to the Barton's pre-match to show them my normal routine (I.e. I'd like a decent beer before the game), plus my wife loved the Barton's when we went there years ago.
-
I’ve received notification that 50,000 tickets are already sold for the women’s FA Cup final. They say they are selling fast and to get one now before it’s too late.
Any ideas on ticketing for this because it’s seems a bit weird frankly?
I think there obviously won’t be as much interest as there might be for a men’s final, but still that a fair few would want to go if we made it. With selling tickets to all and sundry before we even know who will be playing, what’s the allocation like for the teams who make it?
-
A quick Google and for last year Man City said they had 5,187. Chelsea didn't say how many but had this image showing when they had sold out, which i'm guessing is the same amount.

Agreed

Of course , it’s no big deal about whether a thread is stickied or not. It’s an internet message board for gods sake.
But I don’t understand why anyone is opposed by the women’s team thread being stickied?
The youth team thread is…..there are 25 pages of posts since June 2022.
The women’s thread, started the same the same time has 47 pages of posts.
Seems to me there is more interest in the women’s game than the youth and reserves.
It can’t possibly be that women’s football is somehow less important…..can it?
-
It can’t possibly be that women’s football is somehow less important…..can it?
For most people it is less important.
-
It's not a hill I'd die on, but I'd think either both the women's & reserves threads should be pinned, or neither. They seem to garner around the same level of interest whichever way you look at it, and be in a similar sort of area (single thread for discussing an entire team, other than the senior men's side).

Agree with this, plus I'd say there are more people watching/checking the results of the women's games than the academy's.

1-0, Dali with the run and goal fired in from the edge of the box. Coming after a brilliant save from Hampton.

Where's your Salvador-based puns when it comes to Dali headlines, BV? Come on, I'm vouching for you when you go for a side hustle as captions writer for the Leitrim or Longford Leader.
-
Surely the reason to pin a thread isn’t because it’s more or less popular than other threads, but rather that it is an ongoing thread that people will continue to return to over time. It seems entirely appropriate that the Women’s thread is pinned. The matchday traffic might not be massive at the moment, but it will definitely continue over the course of the season.

I believe there is a movement within womens sport to move away from white shorts to avoid embarrassment to them should mother nature visit them during their chosen sport, darker coloured shorts are seen as an aid to this. Villa are following the trend, rightly so.
-
Ok thanks. I know Arsenal play in white shorts. Or have. I didn’t want to assume anything and make what might have been construed a sexist or insensitive statement. But it makes sense to do that. I’m glad we have already moved in that direction.
-
I believe the club should have given away free tickets for today's game in order to increase the number of people who attend for the experience and atmosphere, as well as to recognise the costs of living for those who may have wished to bring families or friends. I'm not clear why, despite the manager's and club's assertions, we aren't allowing more access when the game is at Villa Park.
People are paying to watch, but look at all the other clubs that give free tickets.
It seems a little cruel to me.
And getting the manager Ward to put a spin on it that people only pay to watch us well we can see right through that and in some ways despite the idea of long term and growing game is losing out on people coming along.
BBC article:
There were some big attendances during Women's Football Weekend, with Manchester United and Everton both attracting 20,000-plus crowds to Old Trafford and Goodison Park respectively.
The crowd at Villa Park was a more modest 6,489 but Ward was keen to emphasise that they were all paying spectators.
Villa actually count their official record attendance as 6,875 against Manchester City earlier this season - they do not acknowledge the 8,367 mark against Birmingham last year because some tickets were issued free
Carla Ward:
"Week in, week out, every team is giving away tickets. What we are doing is building a brand of football that people want to pay to come and watch,"
"I think that is really important - if we are looking long-term, if you give tickets away too often, in a couple of years' time those people potentially don't come back because they are not getting free tickets any more.
"Every single person in this building today [Sunday] paid money to be
that's a credit to Aston Villa. I think the football club has got a very, very good strategy in place of building a fanbase, creating a buzz and people want to pay to watch us.
"I think we are an exciting team to watch - I'm quite big on playing an exciting brand and I think we've achieved that."
-
It’s £10 Footy, & I think they’ve explained it pretty well there.
-
They look fantastic!
What a great result, we’re on a bit of a run.
Carla Ward is an excellent manager.
Great stuff, UTV!
-
Some great goals there, well done girls!
-
I think I agree with Carla Ward there Footy, I'm not sure giving away tickets will do anyone any good in the long run - it effectively devalues the game, particularly when people are willing to pay £5/£10 to watch anyway.
Incidentally, the tickets were dead cheap but there was 9,500-ish at the Wrexham Women Vs Connahs Quay Women game yesterday. It'd been heavily marketed & was a bit of a one-off game as they were presented with the Adran North league title/trophy (Welsh 2nd tier), but still shows I think you can get big attendances without giving tickets away.
-
Better quality and better results are what will drive attendances. Free tickets are for the likes of Man City trying to fill their bowl.
-

I agree, Villa are building a sustainable model of Villa fans. The atmosphere is different without the usual fans leading the chanting but it was great to see so many youngsters, some of them quite tiny, so excited to be at Villa Park and see the Villa. To score 5 goals was great as well.

It's now down to just 4(four) seats available for next weekend. I've messaged the club to see if there's a possibility of more being made available. Perhaps in the Tile Choice end, where folks have seemed to migrate to anyway? Not too roomy, those Community Stand seats.
-
It’s £10 Footy, & I think they’ve explained it pretty well there.
I just think the principle in these economic times rather thanbthe cost and that other clubs are doing free tickets. Could have had many from the surrounding area go along.
I understand the strategy, and obviously have a bigger wage bill now Villa have better quality of players.
Anyway just find it disappointing myself as under 7,000 attended and other games have 20,000.
All in all playing wise the women squad are going in the right direction and that's what's most satisfying to be looking to progress.
I'm very much looking forward to the matches versus Chelsea in league and cup.
UTVW!

Should've checked a post I started typing before the school run was still valid by the time I got back! They've opened another block for Saturday, corner one behind the goal. Marvellous.

We had over 1200 more at a game between two sides that are likely to finish the season in exactly the same relatively inglorious positions they were before kick-off than the table-topping clash between man city and chelsea. If you look at attendances in the WSL, ours are very good. Arsenal's look fantastic, an "average" of 19k. But that's bolstered by three games, vs spurs, man utd & chelsea, each in front of over 40k. Their typical home attendance is under 4k. And that's for a team which you yourself described as one of the very best. I'm with Carla and Emma Hayes in believing that giving away free tickets is not the way to go if you're trying to build a solid fan base.
A competitive local rival would help, too. Snigger as much as we like at events in B9, but the dismantling of their very successful women's & girls' set-up was & is undeserved. They remain the last club that weren't named Manchester City, Chelsea or Arsenal to win the FA Cup.
-
I think I agree with Carla Ward there Footy, I'm not sure giving away tickets will do anyone any good in the long run - it effectively devalues the game, particularly when people are willing to pay £5/£10 to watch anyway.

This is what it's all about, that thing about how if you can't see it, how can you hope to become it. Near as damn it every one of us on here will have dreamed as a youngster of growing up and playing on that pitch in claret and blue, but many were denied that dream irrespective of how talented or dedicated they were, but solely on what they hadn't got stashed in their slacks. The more I contemplate that position, the more f***ing ridiculous it seems.

However, with the demise of Birmingham as a competitive local rival, Aston Villa football club will be the place for all talent in the area, and rightfully so. Ward is aware of the situation and has come here. The Inter City Academy will also help us, so being the primary women's football club in the Midlands will essentially strengthen us.
To compete for the top spots, we'll eventually bring in a more experienced high-end coach.
Can only see a continued rise to fame.
It's even more exciting than the men's, but the entire Club is on the rise, and we can all relax as it were with little worry and enjoy the football and the hope for the remainder of this season and be super optimistic next season for the continued progress.

To be fair, I did still dream, & it wasn’t any more unrealistic than most of the lads who dreamt it really. It would play out in my head about how many barriers there’d be to overcome, and that all the fans would be up in arms about it, but change their mind when they saw how incredibly skilful fast and brave I was!
Apart from being a girl, I was also shit at football, but a dreams a dream!
-
We used to say Villa should give tickets away for matches. Now it's for women's matches. That's progress.
-
I know, amfy, there's always that!
But I'll never forget, and I bet I'm not alone in witnessing the suchlike, I once gave a mate a lift to pick his son up from football (I'm loathe to use the word 'training', he was only about 5) where there was one kid head and shoulders above all the others in terms of ability and desire to play. I hope she managed to keep playing.

It was incredible last year to see the journey of Ellen White from a 10 year old girl who wasn’t allowed to play with her team anymore to an England international Euros winner! In front of a full Wembley. What a journey!
There are one or two girls in all the kids teams now. One in my 9 year old grandsons team is often player of the match & is as good as any of them. One in my 5 year old grandsons team is tiny and scared of the ball, so I reckon that’s a dad who’s now decided that not having a son is now no barrier to his offspring fulfilling his dreams!

The purpose of pinning a thread is if it's something important that doesn't generate traffic. So the pin is to keep it in place and stop it sliding off the front page.
So the more interest something generates, the less need there is for it to be pinned because the discussion organically keeps it in place.

Blimey, if she's a Euros winner aged 10, imagine how good she'll be as a teenager! ;)

Hannah Hampton back in the latest England squad!
Rachel Daly also in obviously.
-
We've three players in the England squad for the last two pre-WC games, Daly (of course), Nobbs keeps her place, and there's a recall for Hannah Hampton, who I have just discovered is only 22. They play Brazil at Wembley on the 6th in the Finalissima, then Australia five days later at Brentford.

Any idea what it is? I thought I saw said that it was something she picked up in the QF, but she finished the game.
Tbh, though, there's only one way we'll win the semi. Attack, attack, attackattackattack.

Does anyone know what the minute's silence before Sunday's game was for?
There was no announcement over the PA.

I was wondering this, too. And no end of internet searching has provided an answer. Still stumped.
In other news, ticket sales for this Sunday's game continue to ramp up apace. We've had to go from 1 additional to 2 and now 3 blocks available in the stand behind the goal. Fantastic stuff.

Yet they are only currently on sale to Women’s ST holders and Women’s claret members so it’s hard to see how sales can be exceptional yet! They go straight from that, to general sale online, at 5pm tomorrow with no priority to men’s team ST holders in between. General sale on the phones on Monday morning.

That's the criteria for the SF, amfy. I'm on about this Sunday's league game.

Big crowd (record for us at Bescot, afaik) today for what will hopefully be a nice weekend double over Chelsea, but in all reality the men had the easier task. We have opened 4 of the 6 blocks behind the goal to meet demand (somewhere around 1600 additional seats, I guess?), and at a last check moments before composing the post, there were precisely 100 left.
We've 6 left to play in the league, 3 we should win, 3 we probably shouldn't expect to get anything from. It'd be good if we can wring at least one point out of those 3, it'd keep the points gap to the top four a little more respectable.
And if anybody is thinking of dipping their toe into this pond, tickets for our 4 remaining home games are on sale (3 in the league including today, 1 in The Cup), with our final home game, vs Liverpool on the 21st of May, being played at VP.
-
Oh, and you can pay on the gate on the day at Bescot. There's an adult & Under-14 matchday ticket package for £14.50.
-
2 down at HT
-
Both fullbacks have stayed at home, we've trebled up behind an isolated Daly, and both wide players have no options. I think we've set up negatively and it's costing us. And I've never seen Dali give the ball away as much.
-
Lost 0-3. Attendance 3,835 which I believe is around double our previous best at the Bescot.
-
I think our plan was to lull them into a false sense of security ahead of the Cup semi final.

I went last night and I agree with all of that apart from maybe the full back comment. Staniforth and Pacheco did very well against an excellent and lively front line of Chelsea. Dali was not her usual self and Lehmann was disappointing. Gregory looked good when she come on. That Blindkilde-Brown will play for England as well, I'm sure.

Just to point out to any that might have tickets for the manyoo game, it's been moved to the Friday night for telly (BBC), now 7.15pm kick-off on the 28th. Refunds are available if you can't make it.
You're right about Blindkilde-Brown, Dave P. She's a star in the making, and it's not going to be long in coming. Although any "Laura Blindkilde-Brown, she's one of our own" chant might need a bit of reworking.
And fwiw, my comment about the fullbacks was in reference to them barely crossing the halfway line in the first half, which I think made it all too easy for chelsea to deal with our wingers. I was in no way implying they'd not turned up for the game.

Bottom-of-the-league Brighton refusing to lie down in the other semi. Led then fell behind to manyoo, back level with 15 minutes of normal time to go.

Anyone happen to know if the kids zone thing at the Bescot Stadium is open for womens' games (specifically the one today...)?

BBC commentary is so biased..
-
Played well considering this Chelsea side are supposed to be the best….commentators are desperate for Chelsea to score…hopefully they’ll be disappointed
-
Chris Purslow, our boss, interviewed at half-time. Slick as fcuk, as ever. Nice tie and shirt claret-blue combo too.

Farah Williams is the worst of them

Blaming Daly over the incident with their keeper, when it was their keeper chasing after our ball.

Chelsea hit the post

Yes, came across very well and nice of him to give props to Walsall at the end.
Anita Asante also looking very smart, the cream jumper and car coat combo suits her.

Yes, she just said Chelsea can still go up a couple of gears. Totally condescending.

1-0 down

Yep the commentators are both hilariously biased, but she is a fucking idiot
-
They've responded well to going 1-0 down
-
I pretty much thought game over once they scored, but fair play we've responded very well. Still think it will very difficult for us to pull this back against them.
-
Farah Williams is the Michael Owen of womens football, obviously a great player in day but truly terrible pundit
-
Very impressive by Villa. Chelsea struggled with our intensity second half. Just couldn't get that clear opening.
-
Well done Villa that was a great effort, against one of the best teams in the league.

A mark of the progress we've made that we feel robbed after a Cup semifinal defeat by Chelsea.

Good game, spoilt by a totally biased commentary team. Sarah Mayling the standout on our team, she has improved so much as this season has progressed.
-

Agree, it seemed like I'd tuned into Chelsea Fan TV.
As for the match, bloody Sam Kerr again. Second half we were very good, just lacking that finishing touch, Lehmann maybe should have equalised from one of her chances. And Ollie would love some of those crosses Hanson put in!
-
Was disappointed with Knobbs, seemed quite wasteful for someone with decent pedigree.
-

Couldn't agree more. I think Nobbs has been poor since she joined us, and her presence in the team is hampering the development of Laura Blindkilde-Brown.
-
My first time going to a Ladies game, good turnout but Chelsea's travelling contingent made most of the noise. Like others, I expected them to coast to victory once they scored but it just spurred us into life. We just lacked a bit of a composure in the box. Hanson was superb and a constant threat, Dali grew into the game. The back four did well too. Shame we couldn't force extra time, we'd have won it.
-
Was a great effort. Not watched the women much, but Hanson impressed me, caused Chelsea all sorts of problems.
-
Thought we started slowly, then grew into the game especially after half-time, thought they all played well especially Hanson & Mayling.Didn't deserve to lose imo.
-
How Farah Williams gave Player of the Match to Kerr .......... Apart from being so one-eyed that is :(
-
Useless. Ward Out.
-
Not our year
-
I thought we were good out wide on both sides, chelsea were nowhere near as comfortable there as in the league game. We just couldn't convert it into decent chances. That said, I was behind the goal (crossbar was obstructing my view) so didn't have the best perspective in the second half, but it did look like we had maybe a handful of opportunities we could have executed a bit better.
-
First womens game for me. Good fun, my little girl absolutely loved it. As others have said, real sign of progress that we've come away a bit disappointed.
-

We entered their box loads of times in the second half and Hanson put in some great crosses but we lacked a bit of composure when it mattered. And none of the big chances fell to Daly. We did threaten down the right when Nobbs linked up out there but Lehmann struggled to get much change out of Carter, who was really good. I presume Lehmann is the most at threat of losing her place next season of the current XI. But hopefully she sticks around because we need more depth (no subs used today) and her leaving would make our social media department as mad as a lorry.

I've been to quite a few women's games now, I sit a bit right of centre so see Lehmann a lot up close for 45 minutes and her touch drives me mental. It can be so poor sometimes. Hanson was mullering her full back, hoping we can somehow keep her.
-
We had Magill and Allen on the bench yesterday who are both excellent players but coming back from serious injuries.
-
Was disappointed with Knobbs, seemed quite wasteful for someone with decent pedigree.

It's a funny old game, if you'd compared the two players you'd have expected Laura's to be the first of their names to be misspelt.
-
1 up at spurs inside 9 minutes. A wonderful move working the ball across the face of the box from the right, finished with aplomb by Hanson.
-
Cracking goal
-
Now 2-0
-
2-0, 20 minutes, Daly after a well-worked free kick. And it sounds like there's a decent contingent of Villa at Brisbane Road.
-
2-1 now.
-
2-1 now.
Missed it, the app decided to stop casting.
Lovely ball through just from Nobbs for Hanson, should've scored.
-
3-2 what's gone on?

3-3
-
3-2 what's gone on?
I nipped out to buy a paintbrush. Soz about that.
-
No Hanson tonight, loan-tied, bit of a blow. Still, come on, The Villa. Let's batter these twice in a weekend.
-
Daly! 1-0!! What a header!
-
1-1. booo
-
Seems like a good crowd. Is this Utd women's normal away following?
-
2-1 Villa!!!!!
-
2-1, Daly again.
-
Deserved
-
Bloody commentators are driving me mad. So one sided. It's worse than the men's game. Villa Women playing well.
-
I've just seen Rachel Daly's first goal. That is some header from a driven corner.
-
Too right, it’s like Man U are the English side and we are some sad foreign side…grrrr
-
I'm loving this! We've set up positively, unlike the chelsea league game. Admittedly both fullbacks are in constant danger of getting skinned, but you can't say it's not paying dividends. We need more corners, we've looked like scoring from every one so far.
-
Bloody commentators are driving me mad. So one sided. It's worse than the men's game. Villa Women playing well.
The commentators are dreadful.
-
2-2, just after Daly hit the bar.
-
Daly slams one off the bar, minutes later they equalise. Bollocks, but not over yet.
-
i see the Man U ladies are cynical wankers like their male counterparts
-
We are the better team
, that girl Brown has great feet
End to end now
-
FUCK OFF
-
you just knew it
-
ft 2-3.
-
Never a foul for the free kick. Just Fuck off Man Utd..
-
Gosh they are arseholes no matter what team . I would like to see what the free kick was given for again
-
Right in front of the lino who sees nothing wrong.
-
Never a foul for the free kick. Just Fuck off Man Utd..
Looks like play acting which would be a shame
-
Gosh they are arseholes no matter what team . I would like to see what the free kick was given for again
Yeah, I wouldn't mind knowing. Looked like fuck all to me.
-
Great game and we played some great stuff
-
Their crossbar had a blinder.
-
Bullshit foul which the lino a metre away from it was right not to give.
-
Just in case anybody wonders whether their women's team attracts a perhaps 'better' supporter, no, no it does not. If you miss that warm glow you used to feel upon discovering there was one of the cuddly scamps sat near you whenever we played them in the before times at VP, get yerself down the unsegregated women's game. A club of ******, for ******.
-
So the women lose leads against that lot as well. By the way their ungracious over the top in your face celebrations at the end. The Apple never falls far from the tree.
-
I only watched intermittently and saw several dubious decisions, not least two offside calls from the lino on the opposite side which were as onside as you can get
-

I went to the Chelsea FA Cup game and the lino in front of us put in one of the worst displays of officiating I've ever seen. Joke level stuff, I've seen her before and she's consistently terrible. She stopped at one point to give a clear offside then didn't give it and then was yards behind the play.
-
Away at Reading today, kick-off at 2, live on the FA Player. We're looking stretched again, no Nobbs, only 5 named on the bench. Still, we should have too much for the bottom team. Hopeful we'll see Blindkilde-Brown bossing the midfield.
-
14 gone, 1-0 Villa. Daly stretches to get a toe to a Hanson cross and steer it into the bottom corner for her 18th of the campaign.
-
41 gone and we make it 2-0. Dali nicks it in midfield and on to Daly, who slides a ball behind a chaotic Reading defence and puts it on a plate for Lehmann to side foot home.
Now 3-0, Daly hounds the fullback and squares to the back post again for Hanson to finish.
-
Dali and Lehmann combine to set up Daly for her second of the afternoon. 4-0, still 35 to play.
-
The golden girl gets her hat-trick. And, we've actually made a triple substitution.
-
Currently top scorer in the league as well.
-
Yep, out on her own now. 20 in the league. We've not had anybody score more than 3 in any of our previous WSL seasons.
And we've now emptied out bench of outfield options with the introduction of Simone Magill for her first taste of action since doing her ACL at the Euros last year.

I think she’s clear by 2, stand corrected if not.
Carla Ward has said that she’s been keeping her on longer to give her a chance.
Would be brilliant if she could bring an award away from this great season for the ladies.
It would be an interesting combined player of the year (men and ladies) I think Rachael would have a great chance of scooping that.
-
Finishes 5-0, now unbeaten in 6 away games.
-
Clear by 2. Shaw's failed to score for man city as they lose to liverpool and pretty much hand the title to their neighbours.
-
Well done Villa, Rachel Daly is a superstar.
-
Clear by 2. Shaw's failed to score for man city as they lose to liverpool and pretty much hand the title to their neighbours.
Chelsea might still pip it. Should be a right Grand Finale to season.

I don't know why I'd discounted them! I know they've a lot of games to play, but the only one you'd think they might perhaps drop points is against arsenal on the penultimate weekend.
-
This morning, everton theoretically could have gone above us today. They're now looking at being six points behind with a ten-worse GD. Some clinical finishing from chelsea.
-
Daly's goals.

What sort of transfer fees do the top women players attract? Can see some of the big clubs sniffing around Daly.
-
Spurs broke the record paying £250k for Beth England earlier this year
-
The world record is the £400,000 Barca paid for Keira Walsh. Beth England is the WSL record. Not sure what their wages are like though.
-
Well done Villa, Rachel Daly is a superstar.
yes
-
Arsenal bid £500k for Russo but Man Utd detected it.
Back to Racheal if she gets 3 in the next 2 games she will be the highest scorer for goals in a season ever.

How? Was it in gold coins?

What caught my eye on the Women's Football Show graphic ws how far ahead Daly (20) and Shaw (18) were of the 3rd placed players with 10 goals. It seems there's like there's a 5 or 6 goal game most weekends so was surprised there weren't more higher scorers.
-
I read today that Daly is now the highest scoring Englishwoman in a single season of the WSL.
-
I read today that Daly is now the highest scoring Englishwoman in a single season of the WSL.
Better stop reading that place then as they are wrong. Sam Kerr got 21 and 20 goals the last two seasons and Vivian Miedema got 22 several years ago. The article might be Daly "could" become the highest scoring if she gets another three goals, OR it might be she has had a hand in the most goals scored with more assists?
-
Englishwoman.
-
Good spot, my mistake and the article is correct.
-
Over 7,000 tickets sold for our final home game at VP on Sunday against Liverpool. They've opened the Upper Trinity to meet demand.

We've two players nominated for Player Of The Season, Daly & Hanson. Ward is also amongst the nominees for Manager Of The Season. There's links to the voting on the Villa website.
Not bad, we make up 25% of the nominations.

It was the same for Ireland in this year's Oscar nominations for acting. We didn't win any.

I repeatedly praised Barry Keoghan on Twitter and liked his tweets, in the hope that someone from the Academy would see it. It didn't influence the outcome as much as I would have liked.

We could do with keeping hold of Hanson, she's quality.

Is she on loan from Man Yew?
-
She is. I've no idea of our prospects for keeping her, that's assuming we're looking to. We'd have beaten them if she'd played against them the other week, the form she's been in.
-
We've released Remi Allen. We must have some substantial plans for the summer.
-
1-0, Hanson
-
She made that goal out of nothing.
-
Now 2-1 down.

21!
To make it 2-2 on the stroke of halftime.

What would we do without Daly and Hanson; both are a class above our other outfield players.

Fully get what you're intimating, and she's, IMHO, definitely no. 3, but I just feel she has not been quite so good in the second half of the season as the first.
-
Given how threadbare our squad is, we did well to get as far as the penultimate weekend before players started dropping on the pitch. Dali has been a bit off it for a few weeks now, and she's not alone in that, but it's hardly surprising given that she's been having to play all game, every game.

Yeah, Dali has been off the boil. We need to keep hold of Hanson, lock her up somewhere until next season starts.

Rachel Daly voted as the Players' Player of the Year for the women's team.

Another one gone as Ruesha Littlejohn announces she won't be an Aston Villa player next season. She sounds a bit sad about it. https://twitter.com/gravestcnes/status/1661420513858600960?s=20

Probably her last big shot. She has seemed to bounce around the last few years and hasn't been getting playing time.

Looks like they're gearing up for another summer of investment. A 5th placed finish and semi-final should help attract some good players.
I think next season is going to be a big one. The next step of fighting for a top 4 place is a big leap forward. Another 5th place finish but getting closer to those top 4 and taking more points off them would be a fantastic.

Rachel Daly Barclays WSL player of the year?

That's great news, well done Rachel.
-
A richly deserved award for one of the most fearless players I've ever seen. Reminds me of Sid in that respect, socks rolled down, four stone wet through, but never intimidated by any opponent.
Now go and put an enormous cherry on it and bag yourself a couple at the weekend. Love her.
-
There seems to be a few leaving, including Rachel Daly? I hope we have a few, even better players coming in. It would be great to have both men and women challenging for the top places.

Daly signed a 3 year contract when she joined, so it's unlikely she would be leaving now (I hope).
-
Where have you seen Daly leaving? The ones mentioned are all squad members who unfortunately haven't played much over their time at the club and I suspect being marked for upgrades. Maybe we can get Hanson in full time.
-
Hanson would be a massive get for us this summer.

Three ahead of Shaw. She needs one to equal the WSL record.

Thanks for correcting me Ian. Thank goodness she's staying. A couple are leaving Chelsea, hope we are in for them. Good players. Been a great season for Carla and the women's team and I hope she is backed in the summer.

Well, at least the manager's survived the cull. Carla Ward has put pen-to-paper on a new deal until the end of the 2024/25 season, with an option to extend for a further year. (https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2023/may/27/carla-ward-signs-contract-extension-/)

I don’t know if it’s been done, but she has to be in with a shout for Manager of the Season, too.
-
If anybody thinks the men's squad is stretched, it's nothing compared to the women's. In our game today, arsenal can name 9 substitutes. We have 3, one of which is a goalkeeper.
-
DALYYYYYYYYYY!!! 1-0 in added time at the end of the first half. Needs one for a new WSL record. Come on, Rach
-
Lehmann doubles the lead 4 minutes in to the second half. We've never beaten arsenal in the WSL...
-
Hanson fights free and tries a lob from twenty yards. I hope we can keep her, she's quality.
-
Go Villa ladies!
-
So close. We hunt down the ball again, breaks to a free Daly on the edge of the box, defender dives in and deflects a goal-bound effort over the bar.
-
We use half of our outfield substitutes as McGill replaces Staniforth. Quarter of the game to go, still two to the good. And McGill gets booked before I finish this!
-
Hanson skins the fullback and her pullback finds McGill, but she can't keep the shot under the bar.
-
9 minutes of stoppage time, McGrath knows why. Still, bit more time for Daly to get this goal.
-
Keep it going ladies and thanks for the updates Lastfootstamper.
-
It's been a pleasure.
-
And it's all over, 2-0. A season that started with a win over man city, quarter final in the Conti Cup, semi final of the FA Cup, winning half of our league games, spearheaded by the first Englishwoman to score over twenty league goals and equalling the all-time WSL record, and finishing with a first ever win over arsenal, all completed by a small group of players who've left nothing on the pitch since that opening game, watched by ever increasing crowds, 6k+ at Walsall, 7k+ at VP (for context, arsenal are the most successful ever English club, yet there was only 4k there today, with what sounded like a fair few Villa).
I will be getting a season ticket.
-
Great summary of the season Lastfootstamper. Hopefully, even bigger and even better next season with Carla Ward signing a contract extension today. Push that top four next season if Carla can bring the right players in.
-
Really enjoyed that game, despite the idiot commentator doing his best to ruin it. The highlight for me was him using injuries as an excuse for Arsenal before remembering Villa only had two outfielders on the bench.
Fantastic result to cap a great season. Definite progress and some great football being played.
Proud of them.

Rachel Daly, Golden Boot winner, I believe

I really hope the club back her in the summer and get a squad worthy of the name together.

I think she certainly benefited from playing in the USA, as women’s football is/was probably a better level than Europe, although the gap is definitely closer now.

Rachel Daly, Hannah Hampton, and Jordan Nobbs.
Congrats! ;D
-
Read that Hannah is likely off as her contract is up and we are looking for a replacement.
-
Well done to Rachel, Hannah and Jordan.
The story of Jordan is a good example for all footballers. She was sitting on the bench at Arsenal going nowhere but decided to opt for regular football by joining us and now she has made it into the WC squad. Some male footballers need to take heed.

Except the men's team don't have an experienced and successful international manager picking the squad!

True, though only to an extent as (sadly) with the men's team the England Head Coach keeps picking players who do have splinters in their arse.

The female Emi!
-
Well done to the 3 ladies, the big question is where is Rachel gonna play, her usual left back role with England or as a striker. Carla Ward has said it should be as a striker, hopefully Sarina Wiegman will agree with her.
-
Read that Hannah is likely off as her contract is up and we are looking for a replacement.
That’s a shame, she’s actually a good keeper

Her contract is up in a month and she hasn't signed a new one, not much we can do as she holds the cards.
-
I realise that, I'm hoping we're not out of the discussion.
-
Two more leaving as their contracts expire. Elisha N'Dow and Sian Rogers, respectively captain and goalkeeper in the promotion-winning side and who played their part in us avoiding slipping straight back down are being let go after both spending the season on loan at Charlton.
-
I liked Elisha, when I used to take my daughter she was her favourite player and I told her when I met her through one of the coaches, she always made a fuss of my kid with pics and words of encouragement.
Good luck gal.
Oh and re Hannah Hampton, the article Id read suggested we had pretty much resigned ourselves that she’d be moving on.

I don't know, didn't Carla Ward have to backtrack as to why she wasn't in a squad? And when she wasn't picked for an England squad the media suggested that was it for her under Wiegman, but she's now got back in there too.
Very strange.
-
It would seem that the club are happy to see her go ...... there are obviously problems behind the scenes with her
Not sure thats the case, she seemed to have been made a contract offer but turned it down.
-
Players get left out of squads and dropped for myriad reasons. Just because she wasn't spotted hobbling around on crutches doesn't "obviously" mean she's a wrong 'un. She's going to be very difficult to replace, I'd be very surprised if I learnt anybody at the club was happy to see her going.
-
There was lots of strange comments from both Ward and Wiegman at the time though.
Wiegman on why she wasn't in the squad at the time.
she has some personal issues that she has to solve so for her at this moment it’s better for her to stay at her club
Ward leaving her at home when the rest of the team travelled to Chelsea. Hampton travelling to Chelsea under her home steam, then posting on social media from the stands to publicly show she was there. After that match Ward stated.
Hannah was available. Something happened yesterday, and we decided it was in the best interests of the team for her to stay at home so I did exactly that. That’s all I really want to say on the matter.
I made the decision in the best interests of the team to leave her home and I left her home. I would probably prefer to talk about the 11 who were here.
Then she was pictured having her unspecified operation.
Since then she has been called up by both managers obviously so whatever had been going on was cleared up. Although has she gone to Chelsea to replace 32yo Berger or just be an understudy.
-
Replacement is already in the house, Daphne van Domselaar from Twente.

The speed with with a replacement has been brought in makes me think the club were not bothered if she stayed or went
-
Or it was made clear she wasn't signing, as appeared to be the case in previous articles I read.
-
I like her name.
-
Sounds good. I’ll have to keep an eye put for her in the world cup.
-
My eldest is gutted Hannah Hampton has left, hopefully this ditch girl settles and has a good season.
-
I like her name.
Great name. Hampton isn't irreplaceable so it's no biggy.
-
Given how far the team has progressed in the last couple of seasons, it’ll be interesting to see the ins/outs this summer.
-
I've seen a usually level-headed commenter on things AVW state that they believe a deal for van Domselaar was struck in December.
I don't really know how good she is, we'll get to judge that at the World Cup, but maybe Hampton knew her time as our Number 1 was coming to an end, her contract was up, and she's looked to get something better for herself elsewhere while her stock is undeniably high. Better now than in 12 months' time with a year's worth of splinters in her arse.
-
Been sat in the garden with the wife and my eldest (fresh from a double drama performance) having a few beers and a chill listening to music. I told her about Hannah Hampton leaving yesterday and we started talking about it tonight, said we had got a new GK in who sounds good, Dutch international etc etc, well the eldest disappeared for a while so my wife went to see where she was…… on her bed crying her eyes out that HH has left.
To say she is distraught is an understatement, I went up to console her with my similar tales of woe regarding Villa players leaving (started with God, Yorke, Bozzie and a few more) but that didn’t work.
She is asleep now, but this is what football does to you, she is 10 in a couple of weeks, about 2 years younger than I was when Yorke left and I was similarly inconsolable.
-
No word on season tickets yet, possibly linkable to rumours there'll be at least 7 games at VP next season.
-
Is it just me or does the women’s game seem to have a high turnover? I don’t follow closely but I notice quite a few players at different clubs moving about on frees. Not sure if just my mistaken perception or it’s more normal.
-

No you're right, contract lengths tend to be much shorter.
-
Two-year contracts seem quite standard in the game. Perhaps this will change as we look to progress and are able to make lower-risk buys. Like we've just done, Hampton left after her two years were up, her replacement is signed up for three.
-
Meaghan Sargeant retired from playing at the age of 29. It would be interesting what her new role is.

Jeez but this woman was and is poison.
https://twitter.com/StrideSteve/status/1674326949668192256
'I had communication with clubs about the level they were going to bid anyway on these players and that helped me then go back and say "right now we need to decide what we're going to do". So those clubs were going to bid anyway...'
Jordan interrupts, saying: 'But that makes no sense, Eni, in the commercial reality of the hard world. If you're a competitor, the last thing I'm going to do is give you any indication of what I'm prepared to do to get a deal done.'
Aluko continued: 'That's not my experience. In my experience, I communicated with my rivals. In men's football that might be very different, but with hundreds of millions of pounds being spent, I think it's naïve to think clubs don't communicate.'
Jordan was keen to identify the difference between men's and women's football, insisting that the 'scale' of her dealings with Aston Villa were considerably smaller than Rice's high-profile move away from the London Stadium.
-
She called some people racist and then deactivated her account. She's an absolute car crash.
-
She is a car crash, however although she supposedly stated Citeh bid to help Arteta out, when she describes what she was supposedly doing when at Villa, it sounds more like she was finding out what other clubs were supposedly going to bid and then telling the club so they knew what to "beat". It still seems dodgy, but doesn't seem to be telling other clubs to bid to help her out.
And there is a lot to criticise her for, but no need to refer to her skin colour or sex when calling her saft (if that did happen).

I think it could be amazing if Van Domselaar wins the World Cup then that would be pretty iconic to basically have the two best goal keepers who are the world cup winners as Villa keepers.
Literally everyone who plays in nets will be inspired by her and Martinez!
