Title: Manchester City vs Aston Villa Pre-Match
Post by: Bad English on May 21, 2022, 06:57:03 PM
One of the shortest ever pre-match discussions. I don't see how we can win but it would be ace if we did.

Because of a change in circumstances I've actually got a ticket to go tomorrow.
Been to the Etihad once during the infamous Gerrard slippage factor season and due to massive delays missed the first half and watched from afar as I don't think we got out of our own half in the second period.
Hoping I, A) get to see the whole game and B) we get some attacking action.
3-2 City.

If they score really early, I have a bad feeling this could go horribly wrong.  A draw could put us up four places. 9-0 to Villa, obvs.

The longer we stay in the game the better.

I think they’ll probably come out the blocks and hammer us. I never want Villa to lose obviously but its kind of a no win in some ways. We win by some miracle, our enjoyment of it will soon get swept away by the media love in for Stevie G doing it for Liverpool, not that, that will be Gerrards fault. We lose, firstly its just shit to lose, secondly, we’ll have the displeasure of watching Grealish celebrate.

Weighing it all up i still want the few minutes of joy, brain says 4-0 them, heart says, 3-2 us.

Martinez

Cash
Chambers
Mings
Digne

Nakamba
Ramsey
McGinn

Coutinhio
Watkins
Ings

Id play Beundia instead of Ings but i dont think he will.

I would rather see Liverpool win the league than Grealish win a medal.

I reckon it will be 6 0 them. Brentford will cave and Newcastle will stuff Burnley.
Meaning the worst of all worlds with Leeds staying up, a smirk on Ratboys face and Newcastle above us.

So let’s look at that Aston Villa at the Emptyhad record since they moved there……On the other hand let’s not.

I was there for both the victories the 2-0 under MON and the remarkable League Cup win where I nearly stayed in the pub as I thought we’d get mullered. Other than that I don’t think we’ve ever got a draw and have lost every other game. I’m going anything less than 3-0 and the moral victory will be ours.

Citeh coasting most the game at 2-0.
Grealish comes off bench last 10 minutes, gives away pen and then puts through his own goal.
2-2 draw and he's won fuck all. Mings laughing offers to swap shirts with a blarting Grealish at the end as our fans sing "Villa till I die".

Their defence was rotten v West Ham, individually and collectively. So think Watkins could have some joy against them. I'm assuming Nakamba will come back in with Ramsey dropping out. I think they will beat us with a late goal, maybe from our former talisman....

Avoid at all costs. I work near Junction 9,  they are dismantling the bridge that goes across at Junction 10 this weekend. All traffic both ways has to leave the motorway go round the island and rejoin.
Pay to use the toll road or head up the A5 by Cannock and get on there.

15 mins gone , are playing well then then they score. We dig in and keep going but then on 60 mins they make it 2 and the sky wankfest starts. Ratboy comes on and on 70 mins nets. At that stage I kick the TV over have a row with the missus and head for the pub.  On the way to the pub I remember there might be some plastics in their so head to the offy instead. Funnily enough, I've dreamt that City are winning 1-0 going into injury time, Liverpool are winning easily v Wolves, Villa get a corner, Mings' header is going wide when it hits Grealish, goes in for an equaliser, then ........I wake up and realise it'll be a routine City win.

Grealish has been playing reasonably well lately, he will start I'd say. Sterling or Foden on the other flank
(Mahrez was dreadful v West Ham) and Jesus down the middle. Silva, KdB, Rodri in midfield.

Really don't think this is the day for our full backs to be pushed up very high. Likes of Grealish and Foden could have a field day if they do. Definitely not the day for a diamond midfield setup either or our full backs will be destroyed. Maybe try Ramsey somewhat on the left to see how he matches up v Walker. Buendia to front up against Cancelo on other side.

-----------Martinez
Cash, Chambers, Mings, Digne
Luiz, Nakamba, McGinn
Buendia, Watkins, Ramsey

Probably the endorphins or the pre-workout talking. But...

All week the Scousers at work (it is Liverpool City centre to be fair) have been  "ah Ads la, yous doin' us a favour? Is right". And I've been categoric that we are absolutely not. They're going to batter us, they always do, I've seen us win 3 times in 30 years there. They used to beat us when they were shit. Same at a party for one of the lads in Max's football team yesterday in St Helens. Loads of Kopites, are Villa doing it? Mega lulz absolutely not.

But in the back of my head there's a gnawing sound. A whisper, no more. In the most hushed of tones. "What if they don't score early? Their back 4 was shite last week. Nerves. What if...".

Fucking hard graft being an optimist and supporting us. Absolutely no hope, no expectations and now this shit.

We're getting the train in and my lad will be representing in his shirt, so we probably will win just to make it spicy walking back to town with the Stockport wankers after.

Champions of Europe, you'll never buy that.

Today feels like an absolute hiding to nothing. It will be all city prematch, we are there to make up the numbers,  be comfortably beaten, moneybags city will be lauded and get their title. And Mr Grealish potentially could score, you'd hope he wouldn't celebrate like Ings or  a Robbie Keane but I think we all know he.probably would. couple of fellas I know on here are going: Chico and Pat MacMahon. Just hope they have a great day in the rain (I nearly said sun then, but quickly remembered it’s Manchester). 1-1 or even better 1-2 would be fantastic, whilst simultaneously, Liverpool get a 1-1 draw at Anfield with the doghedz. That's where I am, Richard. Loads of Leeds mates and one mate from Burnley who lives in Leeds. The thought of him walking around for the next year and being a reminder to their relegation would be perfect.

I think it's a case of how long can we hold out before they score.
i think there’s a separate thread for that 😉

6 minutes is my guess.

Not sure, but I feel like it may be someone with a Red Dwarf-themed username.

Its been a horror of a season - one to forget - full time and at least we can enjoy the summer while we wait for the transfer window to open. and then it all starts again :)

Horror of a sesaon? What over the top nonsense.

The horror season was 15/16 and the next two that followed and as we stayed relegated.

Not a good season by any stretch of the imagination. If we do pull off the improbable today it will change a lot of perceptions. But we won't, so we're left with failing to beat Palace and Burnley at home and finishing 14th.

If this season had followed 19-20 it would look like a good one!

I blame Joe.

being knocked out the play off final to find that HMRC has issued a winding up petition whilst the guy with the Payless shoes has sprinted back to Heathrow.
That’s a horrible one.

I've been busily trying to avoid the Liverpool or Man City wankfest But I accidentally caught the whiny nasaly sound of Trevor Sinclair saying how we've got no chance today. You'd of thought they were taking on Bury the way he was dismissing us. He then spoke in glowing terms about this "wonderful squad" and what a genius Pep is for getting them where they are. You would of thought they had scrimped and scraped and battled their way through the divisions if you were from Mars and didn't know that oil money is totally responsible for there current position. It's got me so wound up that I actually "want" Liverpool to win the title. And I fucking hate those arseholes.

Head says it's a non-starter and we'll get the customary drubbing, heart says that too many are writing us off and it will be a foregone conclusion that City lift the title, so we'll have something to say about that!

I'm going full Desmond with the scoreline, 2-2 with an injury time Coutinho equaliser! Dogheads are on the beach, Villa fans singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" at fulltime, and Benzema giving Van Dijk and co the run around next week to lift ole big ears.

UTV... and fuck City and their oil cash, plastic fans, twat of a manager and turncoat players!  ;)
