Both teams look to have arguably their strongest sides out.

A very strong line up, with a very strong bench. Nice mix of experience and youth in the subs as well.

That's about as strong a first team possible with that line up, one striker up front as well with a strong looking bench.

A lot of big blokes in their team, we need to deal with corners etc much better.

Looks our strongest team. Ferguson has gone all out attack with that Everton line up. They look very weak at full back and in CM. We should have a 3v2 in CM. Dominate midfield as we should and we dominate the game.

They are certainly going to come out strong. Need to match their intensity.

We are not going to have much time on the ball so worried a little that Buendia and Luiz in particular could struggle with the pace and physicality of the game.

Hope we are ready for it.

Cam Archer not in the squad?

Guess that's down to the switch to put Ings on the bench. While Ings has proven himself to be deadly elsewhere, he hasn't at Villa. It would be a shame for Cam not to get opportunities, but that kind of competition for places will make us stronger as a whole. As they say in American prisons 'game ain't based on sympathy' (picked up from a Louis Theroux docu, but seems apt).

Yes, could have done without Benitez leaving and Richarlison and DCL back. An early goal for us and they might fold if the crowd get on their back, otherwise it could be an attritional game.

How many times does Ramsey have to be fouled and not given.
Scandalous. It's no protection for him

Buendia is doing very nicely can see his energy and attacking thrust despite a few poor passes looks good and would like Coutinho to be showing same level
So far it's wrong move to start him far too slow with things and not so involved.

Watkins has the beating of Mina needs more support though.

McGinn such a boss

Yay! Buendia has been threatening to score with a header all season, finally he gets one.

We've been the better team, without actually being good. We've had a look now, they are crap, let's step it up 2nd half and smash em.

They haven't created a chance, but that just means they're set up to somehow get an accidental goal and ruin our good work, so we need to press it home.

Best attacker on the pitch scores. It has been full blooded and congested up to that point. Very tough game for Coutinho to come in to given he has been away for so long and it showed.

We look to have the better quality in the final third but we need to keep our concentration. McGinn and Cash very good. Mings great defensively but loose moments in possession.

Commentary has been poor. The bang on about 2 similar teams battling. We have been by far the better. Emi has barely seen the ball and the defence has been in control. They are too interested in making Everton appear better than they are because of the ‘big Dunc’ effect.

That's one of the worst things about crowds the lack of respect they give opposing fans and throwing stuff has crossed a line very dangerous can even be fatal. Action must be taken

Comfortable half .
If disappointing with actually attacking shots .
Though Everton haven't even shot at goal
I think for all our good play there seems to be the long ball and direct route and set piece that have been our best route to goal and most dangerous.

Good stuff in parts and for all the improvements in every department under Gerrard with our stats we lack only one improvement in attack and that's  shots at goal on target and being really threatening I hope we improve second half and don't get drawn into a battle where Pawson will only start dishing out cards

Think now Eveton could crumble and lose discipline so we can hopefully put in more attack as game is there to win and impressive play by Bunedia first half to continue

Unwise for Steven G to be staring at that Everton fans to be honest.
Dean Smith doesn't do that sort of thing to Birmingham or WBA
Should just head down and walk into changing room no need to stoke them. Too much ego there and after them throwing stuff has to be careful
Disappointed to see that. He's a manager not a player
Not for me that sort of behaviour exactly why I have reservations

Our players just been hit by bottles and other thrown objects by their fans, and you state our manager should not be on the look-out for things being thrown at him by same teams supporting fans being as he is an obvious target?  Weird.

How’s Coutinho been doing?

Looking to gain match fitness is the most polite.
Dropped deep one time to get involved as has been not much involvement
Doesn't take ant of the set plays and I would prefer him in the middle 3 rather than front 3 as hasn't supported Watkins

That said he had the header which led to the corner and goal so has a danger but no magic   not much touches of note apart from picking up and helping cretse a move with Cash and Buendia and suggested he's playing 60 -70minutes today.

More to come from him as quiet really

Gerrard is combative.  It's who he is, how he played and how his teams play. Dean Smith has many fine qualities as well, and we benefited from plenty of them.

But it's not relevant to this match.
