From The Athletic
Aston Villa are set to bolster their analysis and recruitment team with the appointment of data engineer Arjav Trivedi.
The highly-rated Trivedi has most recently been working at FIFA underneath Arsene Wenger, the Head of Global Football Development.
Trivedi, an expert in data science, had previously worked at Arsenal for three years before leaving this summer. He made his name working for StatDNA, Arsenal's in-house data and analytics company. His role was to help provide insights from data to assist recruitment, performance, medical and coaching.
He also has a PHD in physics and is a qualified football coach at grassroots level.
Villa want to add him to the set-up after creating a new senior role, as reported by The Athletic earlier this month.
Who is Trivedi?
Trivedi has a background in data science and has been described by sources as a “very intelligent forward-thinker”.
He recently worked as part of a team on a study to examine the relation between scanning (a body or head movement in which the player's face is actively and temporarily directed away from the ball with the intention of looking for information that is relevant to perform a subsequent action with the ball) and performance.
What is the position?
It is a senior role at the Bodymoor Heath training ground, working with Villa's head of research Frederick Leth and under sporting director Johan Lange.
The plan is to work on long-term projects to build for the future, and across the club as a whole.
Why are Villa hiring?
Lange wants to build a data team who can out-think some of Villa's Premier League rivals and create a culture where data-based decision-making is crucial.
The club believes that with more resources in this department, better decisions will be made going forward.
Significant change in the analysis, scouting and recruitment area has taken place over the last 12 months.

I like the idea of out-thinking the opposition. We could go down that route with a new manager and fucking off the dinosaur, third rate, set piece, Cowdenbeath coach.

Going well do far.
-
I look forward to him analysing the success or otherwise of Leon Bailey’s long throws.
-
Reckon he might deduce that 36 year old Ashley Young can't cut it for 80 mins in centre midfield?
-
Can he deliver a long throw in to the penalty spot?

Be nice if somebody did, and told Dean.

Welcome, Arjav.
Some good reading on his LinkedIn page.

Without wishing to be too controversial, and I know we all have our favourites, I would say that his work on mechanisms of bottom boundary fluxes in a numerical model of the Shetland shelf is some of the finest I have read in the genre.

I knew posting this today was a bad idea. :)

"Analysis of the worst-case scenarios in an elite football team"
Have a feeling this area may be looked at.

Lol, "elite". He didn't read the small print in his contract.

Just in case it happens to the opposition?

A Data Engineer? Isn't it just beefed up opta stats? That said, engineers are good at fixing things so maybe the Long throw ins data is revealing a higher success rate than is actually being achieved.
-
We should probably just replace Smith with an algorithm and have done.
-
Let’s run the last four games through his machine.

Anyone else reminded of intelligence from team America?
-
Ah, you have to place the right index finger on the valve at precisely 40 degrees with the left hand on the opposite side of the ball to counterbalance the oscillation required to get the right trajectory and power to throw the ball into the penalty area!
Bailey's long throw in sorted!
You know what I will give you a bit of advice for free, learn to pass the f**king ball to one another, I have always found that tends to help a lot!

Far too advanced it will never catch on.

Can he play at CDM?

Can he play at CDM?
Even if he can, he’ll get injured 13 minutes into his debut and be sidelined until April.

His name is an anagram of cones and bibs in Albanian. I, for one, welcome Paul Lambert back to the club.

Now I know why Mings gets it wrong so often.

Another salary wasted. They should have come to me for my theory, which is:
1. Get into them
2. Fuck them up/off*
* Depending on who you speak to

I've run our last four results through my supercomputer and have arrived at the conclusion that where we've been going wrong is that we've conceded more goals than we've scored. If we can reverse that trend, we'll win games again.

'Aston Villa can today confirm that Arjav Trivedi has left the club with immediate effect. New Head Coach Sam Allardyce confirmed he would take over day to day responsibilities for IT patches and other analytics.' We wish Arjav all the best for the future.'
