Because the usual suspects haven’t started one yet…

You know these fuckers will find some way to win. Still hopefully I’m wrong come on Villa.
-
3-5-2 with Traore, Archer and Buendia on the bench. Why not.
I hope SJM has his shooting boots on. Fancy him to score a couple today.
-
You'd think our midfield 3 would be able to get on top of McTominay and Fred
-
Ramsey will get off the mark today. Come on Villa, for once let’s get one over these fuckers.
-

3-5-2 is a myth. They're playing with one centre forward and we have five defenders, just as we did when it failed against Lukaku.
Because it's bollocks is the answer to "why not".
-
We're certainly overdue a result from the red filth but a lot depends on the time in the match when they get their penalty.
-
Impressive as Ramsey is keeping out £40M man. I would have liked Traore to start but it is a tough call now days.
-
Decent team and formation. Still can't see us countering Man U's Dean formation effectively and of course the use of VAR in attacking positions.

O ye of little faith.
I'm praying the real Matt Targett turns up today. He really needs to find his form from last season.
-
I think he's been fine apart from Watford when they were nearly all shite.
-
Mike Dean is the ref... :'(
-
Archer on the bench. The stage is set.
And Bogarde. Is that his first time in a matchday senior squad?
-
Early observation from being amongst the home fans: before Ronaldo rejoined who or what did they sing about? Because right now he's the only one getting a look in.
-
That United front 4 is pretty terrifying. We’re going to have to be right on it.
-

Liverpool.
-
Not a fan of that lineup. Mings when he played for us previously in the centre of a back 3/5 was a car crash. Hause very poor also and Targett not suited to that formation either. So that's three of the back 5 who are likely to be uncomfortable in their positions. AWB is a very average RB that Grealish destroyed here the last two seasons but in this formation we are giving him a bit of a pass.
To be honest, I think Deano is using this formation as a bit of a flunk on the hard decision up front. At least we have options to change the shape of the team if they go ahead. Nakamba and Traore unlucky not to be starting.
-
Bit conservative i suppose. Was hoping Smith would go to a 433, with Traore in alongsude Watkins and Ings, as i do think this lot can be got at. But it is Man U away, so can understand it. To work better than the pre Bailey introduction last week, it needs Targett to have a better game going forwards than and McGinn to drive more through the middle. Thought Nakamba played very well when he came on, but he’s never going to push us further upfield.
-
I’m not sure about this system. I don’t think it plays to our strengths, but let’s hope it works today.
-
If we put out the best team possible today, I don't think we'd get anything..... They have Mike Dean and one or two penalties head start on us.
Disappointed for Nakamba - He's been solid for us last couple of games, and deserved a run in the side imo (in place of Doug who whilst obviously gifted, doesn't move or release the ball quickly enough for me).
EDIT: Just realised... is this not on the box?! Why is it a lunchtime kickoff if it isn't televised?
-
Just rushed home to watch on TV and I get confused.com oh well , should have stayed at work .
-
In our Dean we trust..come on let’s get behind the boys..we’ve got Mike Dean to deal with!
-
The game has been moved because a very average band have a gig next door later.
-
Plan is obviously to keep in the game up to hour mark and then we have some really interesting options to put on if game then gets stretched.
Don't really like Cavani coming out of nowhere to be on the bench for them, he scored a cracking goal v us last season with superb movement so think we could have 6 CBs on the pitch and they'd struggle to handle movement of him and Ronaldo from crosses.
Going to be tough but we at least have a go v them nowadays, can't legislate for external factors like Mike Dean.
-
Think the three at the back have got to handle their attacking three, with Luiz taking care of Fernandes. This will allow McGinn and Ramsey to push on to Fred and McTominay and the wing backs to look after their full backs, particularly with Shaw pushing on.
-
EDIT: Just realised... is this not on the box?! Why is it a lunchtime kickoff if it isn't televised?
There's a music event on at the Old Trafford cricket ground - featuring a band called the Courteeners, who I believe are quite popular locally.

But really not very good !!
-

No, I think he was in the squad vs BlueScouse (i think!).

He wasn't.

Away fans in great voice
-
Ramsey will get off the mark today. Come on Villa, for once let’s get one over these fuckers.
I was just about to post, I have a weird feeling Ramsey will score today.
-
Any babbling brooks available online for this one seeing as it's not on Sky/BT?
-
Good chance for Fernandez due to our three defenders following a single man leaving him wide open.
-
Too much of a gap between midfield and defence. Poor tactics
-
The first 10mins looking a bit too much like one of our lower league club grateful to have a day out at OT performances. Hopefully we get a grip soon.
-
It’s not quite working out between Ings and Watkins at the moment. Hope it clicks soon
-
McGinn playing well. Ramsey getting caught on the ball too often at the minute.
-
Jesus Christ, Targett, cannot miss that!
-
Brilliant by Cash, why'd it have to be Targett on the end of it?
-
Dreadful finosh by targett. Harder to dk what he did then score.
-
Had to score. Fuck sake
-
Shortly thereafter we can thank our lucky star Greenwood shoots himself instead of passing to Fernandez who is completely free at the penalty spot.
-
Had to score. Fuck sake
Greenwood passes to "Fernatch" and that was 100% 1-0 to them.
Phew.
-
Fucking hell Targett.
-
The commentary were so shocked Targett missed they’ve changed Nationality.
-
Both teams should have scored.
-
You'd think our midfield 3 would be able to get on top of McTominay and Fred
Fred is bossing them.
-
Watkins, jesus
-
Oh Ollie.
-
Ffs Ollie
-
Chelsea all over again - huge chances, playing well, not scoring
-
Bloody hell, should be two up by now.
-
Absolutely has to score that.
-
He should have hit it first time. There was a huge gap.
-
OLLIE. Christ alive, have to bury that.
-
Two bleeding sitters we’ve missed.
-
We're playing really well.
-
You can just see how this is going to go. We should be 2 up by now
-
Wtf. Put your shooting boots on, Villa!
-
Learnt nothing from the Chelsea game. Take your fucking chances. You know they will score at least one today.
-
Ollie’s finishing has not been sharp this year.
-
Mike fucking has bet on ManU
-
Good game TBF.
-
Good going forward, but squeaky bum time when they attack
-
Ollie’s finishing has not been sharp this year.
Those sorts of misses will always stop him hitting 20 + in a season.
-
Watkins bottled that shot. Poor attempt.
We need to take these chances ffs
-
No foul there tosser.
-
If we lose this one both of those missed chances will be the reason. McGinn all over the pitch today, really good display.
-
Dean is a joke.
Gives that free kick early on when Greenwood was barely touched 25 yards out and now gives fouls when we clearly win the ball.
-
Dean up to his olD tricks again. Never a foul by SJM.
-
No foul there tosser.
the idiot was right on top of it, too.
-
We’re being too careless on the ball in and around our box.
-
That's better, yellow for Shaw.
Shame we don't have Bailey to throw on second half at him.
-
Pretty women are looking for men 30+ in Wolverhampton.
-
Pretty women are looking for men 30+ in Wolverhampton.
Weird, Veneto too.
-
Well considering we’re playing this conservative five across the back we do look a threat and should be two up. It’s a great game of football.
-
Pogba’s hairdo is remarkable in terms of shiteness.
-
Pretty women are looking for men 30+ in Wolverhampton.
If they like their men with no teeth and six fingers on each hand.
-
Pretty women are looking for men 30+ in Wolverhampton.
I have had offers from lot of potential russian brides.
-
Just seen my first half and half scarf
-
Shaw going off, one less attacking sub for them to use.
-
Just seen my first half and half scarf
Has it got CR7 written on it?
-
Pretty women are looking for men 30+ in Wolverhampton.

They've fancied you for ages.
-
Just seen my first half and half scarf
They don't seem to be protesting the owners anymore with their Norwich scarves.. strange.
-
Pretty women are looking for men 30+ in Wolverhampton.
Let me know if they get desperate and start looking for men 50+.
-
Just seen my first half and half scarf
And the kid was on his phone!

Pretty women are looking for men 30+ in Wolverhampton.
Let me know if they get desperate and start looking for men 50+.
I doubt they're that fussed if they're looking in Wolverhampton.
-
Much as I want the system to work (just to contradict CD, of course), I'm not sure it is. They're doing the thing that can happen to 3-at-the-back teams, matching our numbers in the middle and stretching us with their numerical superiority out wide.

Of course it's working
-
Good free kick position.
-
Just seen my first half and half scarf
Yep, I saw that too. Disgusting.
-
Konsa header very close.
-
We’re knocking on the door
-
Why has Pogba got Man City hair?
-
These misses are gonna cost us badly
-
Pretty women are looking for men 30+ in Wolverhampton.
Is that age or IQ?....
-
Yet another great chance gone. Good delivery from the corner.
-
Oh ezzzzzzz.
Should be about 2 up here.
Set piece guy having an impact. Would like mings to get on the end of a few of these though.
We've been the better team from 20 minutes on.
-
These misses are gonna cost us badly
I doubt it, we've taken the lead against these loads of times. Bad things always happen anyway.
-
We're playing wide-open, front foot football at Old Trafford with the intent to win.. and have the three best chances of the match and some of you are complaining.
For the love of god, try to enjoy the football.
-
Can we get a finishing coach next please?
-
What bothers me is that it is so much effort for us to get from our box to theirs. Whereas they can win the ball off one of our forwards and be in our box less than 5s later.
-
Can we get a finishing coach next please?
Isn’t that what the new bloke is responsible for ?
-
Playing well, but years of suffering against this lot, you just know that these misses are going to cost us.
-

Absolutely. You just cannot miss 3 guilt edged chances like we have against a team like this.
-

Martinez good save

They're a better team than us.
True, but its also the way our system works against us
-

Not this half they're not
-

An uncomfortable truth.

A bit unfair on Konsa. He was under a lot of pressure for that header and did well to get to the ball really. Targett and Watkins no excuses.
-
Good morning all. I see Pogba has just cheated a free kick
-

Clearly! I meant without it coming back to bite you.
-
Good morning all. I see Pogba has just cheated a free kick
Did the same thing 25 minutes ago, in the same spot.
-
Pogba one of the biggest cheaters in the world.
-
Dean you are a cock
-
My usual haunt has crashed. If anybody has a link that'd be Marvellous.
-
Fuck me Pogba close.
-
Pogba gets a free kick for kicking McGinn
-
Can we get a finishing coach next please?
With Ollie and Ings we shouldn't need one but that doesn't seem to be the case.
-
We’ve done alright, but failed to take our chances. Their penalty will come.
-
We’ve done alright, but failed to take our chances. Their penalty will come.
Alright? Jeez.
-
Good game. We are doing well but as Monty pointed out they are making good use of the space we leave due to our formation.
Great chances for us. But several for them too. 1-1 or 2-2 would be a more typical outcome after a half like that.
-
Aside from the missed chances, which are frustrating for sure, I'm not sure how anyone could be unhappy.
Bailey would be ideal in a stretched game like this.
-
Honestly - this team is a strong team. Much stronger overall than last season, and still missing players.
Looks good!
-
It's none of my business, obviously, but I wish Dean would invest in some decent shirts. These 2 for £30 M&S numbers are unbecoming for a man in his exalted position.
-
I really hope this isn't another one where we have to 'take the positives' but not the points.
-
We're getting there but you feel that the inevitable is coming. We do have options on the bench but they have Cavani and he could be the difference.
As well as the ref.
-
Very well played. I enjoyed that, very brave of us at times which does leave us exposed. Much prefer it like this than expecting to come here to lose.
Unlucky not be ahead. Well done Villa
-
I really hope this isn't another one where we have to 'take the positives' but not the points.
Its got that feeling about it hasn't it. Especially given the chances we've missed.
-
Pogba one of the biggest cheaters in the world.
I blame the ref more for giving the free kick rather than a booking.
-

Yep.
-
Great half from us.
Should've scored. If we went one up we'd then sit back a bit and they wouldn't have the space to create some of the chances they have.
Hopefully it's not one of those games where DS thinks the first 11 are so amazing he dosen't change anything until 80th minute. We are pressing like mad so intensity will start to drop at some point second half and we have a very decent bench today.
Get the feeling it won't be long before they take off Fred and move Pogba into central two so hopefully Dean will react, Buendia would probably be good option to counter that.
-
Great half Villa and its exactly how I want my team to play.
With bravery.
Such a shame we haven't taken our chances and I'm hoping we don't regret it.
But loads of positives and you just never know!
-

Yep.
Mike Dean will hand it to them

Our season isn't going to be defined by today though. We took the postives out of the Chelsea game and smashed Everton so whatever happens second half we can do the same to Spurs.
Our general level is miles above what it was in the three August games so just shows what a disjointed pre season can do. Now we look a top half team and still have a couple of key players to start.
-
We've done well, but I'm concerned with how quickly they play through us.
-
It's none of my business, obviously, but I wish Dean would invest in some decent shirts. These 2 for £30 M&S numbers are unbecoming for a man in his exalted position.
Agreed, he's no Luis Enrique (or Pep).
-
I’d like to see Bert on for the last 25 mins.
Can see him scoring or getting a pen.
McGinn will score the first goal.
-
We've done well, but I'm concerned with how quickly they play through us.
Like all top teams they are very good at switching the ball crossfield quickly, Barry for us was a master at it.
Feels a bit like we should keep one of the FBs back rather than pushing both forward so we have back 4 in our own half at all times. All they're doing is dragging one of the forwards out wide and getting into our box too easily.
Will be interesting second half, we'll get another big chance or two I bet. Feels like one of the sub benches will win it, they can only use two more subs now. For a neutral watching this very interesting which manager really goes for it with changes and tweaks.

It won't be defined by today, I agree. But we do not want to be perennial plucky losers against Chelsea / Man Utd etc either. Bored of writing games like this off.

I'd rather defeat Man. United at VP tbh. Our record v them at home is a complete and utter joke.
We've competed well at Old Trafford for three straight seasons now so that will do me given how historically bad our record is.

That’s the point, we’re not writing these games off. We went for it against Chelsea and it seems like we’ve gone for it so far today. We’re trying to win.
-
United wont be that poor 2nd half so we have to prepare for abit of a onslaught.
Playing well but i want to see more from ings. He is apassenger in this game. I would have prob played a attacking winger like traore/buendia and had ings on bench

The point I' making is that it's great we're trying to win and being brave on the ball. Shit finishing aside, we'd be in front and that is a positive. So, we've moved on from how we used to stink these places out in the bad old days. I want us to actually win too and not be happy with just being in the game.

Can you contribute something positive.. for once?
-
Would like to see Dalot tested out of position at left back. Though Shaw was having a shocker. Watkins miss was criminal, simply can't miss that one.
Very impressed by Ramsey. Our 3 in midfield dominated.
-
Feels like we haven't attacked Dalot much, come on the Polish Cafu!

Could've done that, but then we'd have been playing 5-4-1 and I think the blast radius from CD exploding would've taken out most of the hemisphere.
-
Watkins is yet to start this season.
-
Wakey wakey Ollie.
Offside is still a thing in the game.

I see what your saying Rigadon. It would be nice for a change to win here. I get that.
Mind you we did well against a fair few of Sky’s favourites last season so maybe we are changing that mentality.

Anyone got a non hes**** stream?
-
Maguire done now, excellent.
-
Anyone got a non hes**** stream?
Goaltv been flowing nicely.
-
Anyone got a non hes**** stream?
its back up.
-
I do expect us to lose, but fuck am I positive post joe, much better team
-
Anyone got a non hes**** stream?
I was going to ask the same thing but I'm a lot less stressed without one. Having a pork pie and loving life.
-
Anyone got a non hes**** stream?
its back up.
Fuck's sake.

These have gone, would throw Buendia on. Ramsey done a good containing job but hasn't been on the ball much.
-
Anyone got a non hes**** stream?
Just had to refresh mine as it ran dry.
-
Playing well and it's enjoyable to watch. But we all know how this ends.
-
Watkins is yet to start this season.
Yeah. Not quite in the present when it matters, not sure what's going on.
-
Look people I don't want to read words like:
Oh Fuck
there it is
It was bound to happen
Didn't you just know it
etc etc
-
One thing that's improved since the set-piece guy came in is the throw-ins. So much sharper, movement into space so much more in evidence.
-
So where is this second half onslaught?
-
It’s an open game. Conditioned to think we’ll lose but it is great to see us playing so openly
-
Back to shit corners.
-
One thing that's improved since the set-piece guy came in is the throw-ins. So much sharper, movement into space so much more in evidence.
What’s collectively better is everyone seems to have an idea where they should be in all facets of the set piece game or as the Americans would probably call it “special teams”. It’s always been critical to be good at set pieces yet for so many years we’ve been dire. Not since probably MON have had a good command of that area of the game in attack or defence.
-
Manure usually get what they don't deserve.
-
Yeah would take Rasmey off.
-
Try Archer instead of Watkins?
-
So where is this second half onslaught?
When they put Lingard on.
-
We'll obviously lose because we're not allowed to get points off these twats, but the performance has been very impressive again.
We've bossed this second half totally.
-
I had no idea Mike Dean was a c*nt.
-
Mike Dean is a POS.
-
HOW THE FUCK WAS THAT NOT A RED ON SJM??
-
Jeez, Dean gone back to pro United. McGinn nearly assaulted on halfway line and he just ignores it.
-
Fuck off mike Dean
-
How was that not at least a yellow?
-
Also, I hope Smith makes a sub or two earlier today, because the lads have worked their bollocks off and they're going to be knackered late on.

And under MON the throw-ins were HOPELESS. Slow, lumbering, toss-it-to-the-fullback, chuck it down the line, everyone static, horrible. I love seeing the nearest player taking the throw, going as quick as possible.
And that, from Maguire, was a load of absolute fucking bullshit. Fucking. Bullshit.
-
Even for a crap ref at a biased stadium like old Trafford , how is that not a foul on McGinn?
-
How was that not at least a yellow?
How was it not even a foul!!!!
-
Aston Villa midfielder is very unfortunate with that.
Yes, no shit. We are supposed to have VAR.
-
Mcginn now booked. Dean is a bellend
-
Worst decision this season. Maybe not red, but fuck, not even a foul?????
-
McGinn needs to control his temper now. Silly yellow to take just because he is pissed off with Dean.
-
What the hell is Dean doing!!? He’s having a mare
-
Such a pity we haven’t got Bailey to come on now as he would rip them a new one
-
We need a change now.
-
Did the sport abandon the 6 second rule for keepers,? Not seen it enforced in recent times?
-
Better, Watkins.
-
They can only use one of Lingard, Martial, Cavani and Sancho now.
-
What beautiful football from us! Why not goal
-
Honestly what fucking play that was from Doug, magnificent ball.
-
I have decided that I loathe Pogba and Fernandes.
-
Berrie please
-
I know I will regret saying this but is Ronaldo still on the pitch?
-
Ollie just takes too many touches sometimes in the box.
-
I have decided that I loathe Pogba and Fernandes.
You've taken a long time to catch up with the rest of us, mate!
-
Subs, Deano
-
I have decided that I loathe Pogba and Fernandes.
only now
-
We need Bert.
-
I know I will regret saying this but is Ronaldo still on the pitch?
Why not just not say it?
-
They really do have more than their fair share of detestable players.
-
Maybe I should say “how much I loathe them both”
I forget I hated them so much
-
We need fresh legs, Dean!
-
I know I will regret saying this but is Ronaldo still on the pitch?
Why not just not say
it?
Shhhhhhhhhh
-
Subs, Deano
Why?
-
Fuck me we never get any luck.
-
Watkins should have pulled it across.
he's wasted too many chances. Replace with Archer.
-
The only manure player I kinda like is axel
-
Subs, Deano
Why?
Cause their knackered! The pressing has been amazing but they must out of their feet
-
Cavani the fucker will score
-
Time for some fresh legs. Probably see Young if Targs is cramping.
-
Need to make some changes. Conceding too much ground now. Need to get Marv and Bert on.
-
c'mon emi.
-
Sounds like Manure are getting on top - time for a change Dean?
-
Sounds like Manure are getting on top - time for a change Dean?
buendia for ings.
-
Get Bert on.
-
Ings not happy being subbed. Buendia in.
-
Let’s see how this goes… not convinced by Watkins finishing today. But probably right to take Ings off for more mobility up front.
-
They'll sub Fred now he's got a yellow.
Going to be five minutes + extra given how long Emi is taking the goal kicks.
-
Ings for Buendia. Good move I think.
-
I would've taken Watkins off rather than Ings
-
Why Ings?? Ollie is the one.
-
Let’s see how this goes… not convinced by Watkins finishing today. But probably right to take Ings off for more mobility up front.
Hopefully, it will see us gain some control in the middle of the park.
With Shaw and MacGuire going off, outside of AWB their backs are ridiculously slow.
-
Would've rather put Traore on if Buendia is playing just off Ollie.
Hopefully Buendia can press well in central areas, going to need it for last 15 minutes.
-
Ings' tracking back has been immense last few games - Really helping out the midfield. Shame he wasn't on the end of one or two of Ollie's chances
-
Why Ings?? Ollie is the one.
Easy really, Ollie’a pace frightens the fuck out of them
-
Fucking hell Ollie.
-
oh god, ramsey clutching his knee.
-
Shit Ramsey looks fucked. What a crying shame this would be
-
We just have no luck. Poor Ramsey looks badly hurt. I was sure he was gonna score there.
-
Ramsey slipped at the wrong second there. Sadly. Would have been too good otherwise
-
Not badly hurt at all. That's something at least.
-
Ramsey noooooo
-
hause looking like carlton palmer on the edge of the united area ;D
-
Its just never EVER meant to be against these c***s is it?
-
Man so unlucky. Think Ramsey done his groin there.
Get Nakamba on.
McGinn MOTM today.
-
That's so unlucky, and so typical for us. It looked like Ramsey's big moment, and the pitch gives way. Hopefully it's not worse than that.
-
I think I'd pretend to be hurt if I did that.
-
How unlucky ..go to score and some kind of slip ..not fair
-
Not badly hurt at all. That's something at least.
Just his ego I think ;)
-
Here comes Archer!
-
Archer on!

My sphincter is quivering like a pressure relief valve right now

YESSSSSSSSS

From the BBC….
90'+3'
Post update
Penalty missed! Bad penalty by Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) right footed shot is too high. Bruno Fernandes should be disappointed.
-
That will ease my hangover
-
YESSSSSS!!!!!!!
-
I am so happy
-
Wow. At last. The Archer factor.
-
Surely it's 3-1 to ManU? Don't they get 3 points for the rugby penalty?

Oh wow. It's still going it's probably at Old Trafford cricket ground.
It was miles above.
-
Love my team!
-
Feel quite emotional
-
I'm usually more eloquent than this but lol, pmsl, lmfao!!!
-
Full time: Man Utd 0-1 Aston Villa
Peep peep! That’s an outstanding victory for Aston Villa, who were too dynamic, too smart and just too good for a lacklustre Manchester United.
-
Finally! Justice served, not only this match but the X others where they robbed us.
-
Get In! 👊👊👊
-
Still shaking.......
-
Feel quite emotional
That's exactly how I felt when our goal went in.
Cavani spent so much effort trying to bully Kortney and fucked-up the important bit.
Couldn't be happier!
-
Tired and emotional!
GTFI!!!!!
-
FUCKING GET IN THERE !!!!!
F U UTD !!
-
What a day!!
Outstanding team performance. Couldn't have been prouder! Well worth the 6:30am train from Southampton!
