Title: Aston Villa v Everton pre-Match Thread - Thursday, May 13th - 6pm
Post by: Toronto Villa on May 10, 2021, 08:58:51 PM
I'm concerned about this one. We very deservedly beat them at their place recently but I'm not sure how we will now line up without Ollie. None of our remaining forwards play with the same intensity as he does. That was such a difference maker at Goodison and he never let them settle. Especially Holgate. I assume KD gets the start over Wesley. I don't think Dean will make any other changes unless Jack comes back. And if he does there is the possibility he plays AEG through the middle.

I'll go with 1-1 - Traore

I wonder if Jack will make the bench and come on for the last 20?  I also wonder if Luiz will start after his penalty shenanigans against the plastics. Our home record needs to be better, good time start.  Barkley plays against his old club and pulls a hammy after ten minutes.

Keinan will terrorise their centre backs and force himself into the England Euro squad as a result, well that and the subsequent freak lightening strike at St George's Park during shooting practice.

3-1 us.

We match up really well v Everton. Also intrigued to how we actually look without Ollie in a league match so will give indication for next season and how desperate we need another forward of some description.

No Ollie is a blow but we have midfielders in form at least so I expect at least one of them to get on a the scoresheet, actually can see Barkley scoring in this and hopefully Jack can manage last half hour.

2-2.

They will be desperate for revenge, and I presume James will be fit ? He’s some player.
Jack back but no Ollie.

1-1

Get the intensity up front by playing McGinn more forward.

Everton are a very inconsistent team but have been going well away from home. If Grealish is fit for 60 mins or so then he needs to start to give us some bit of a spark. I'd put Traore into Barkley's spot and give Davis a go.

First goal will be key here.

Of the youngsters I’d say only Philogene-Bidace (presume he is overage for youth cup) is in contention for this game with the Youth Cup semi being Friday night.

Hopefully Everton will pick all their slow midfielders again like last week and likes of Barkley get room to play

They were excellently organised at West Ham. We have key players out.

Keinan to bully the balls off Yerry Mina. And Wes to come on, finish things off and leave the Colombian whimpering on the deck. A knock-out in round nine to the Villa.

Did you know, that Villa vs Everton is the most-played top flight fixture of the last two weeks?

No idea about this one, we have the 3rd worst home record in the division, but Everton are a team, like West Ham, that for some reason I never see us losing to and it always surprises me when we do.

Never really think it's worthwhile leaving a player of Jack's quality on the bench. For one, his presence alone on the pitch will improve our other players and two, I always feel the guys on the pitch in his position spend the second half with one eye on the sideline expecting an imminent sub. Both AEG and Traore have played reasonably well of late and should start. Both are poor playing on the right of the three so maybe try Jack there for a change. Might surprise Everton too. They can always rotate a bit. No point at all starting Barkley but he can come in for Jack later on in the game if needs be.

Certainly hope this bizarre experiment of McGinn playing RCM and Luis LCM comes to an end. Don't understand it at all and only hurts us in trying to retain possession from the back.

----------Martinez
Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett
---------Luiz, McGinn
Jack, Traore, AEG
-----------Davis

Likes of Ramsey, Wesley, Barkley, maybe Sanson? in reserve....not the worst team IF Jack is back....If he isn't then we are back to Barks inevitably

No offence but I'm not sure home and away records mean very much this season. That said it's curious how so many teams have better away records, when it should be more or less 50/50.

Its like home teams are more adversely affected by playing in front of their own empty stands.
Understandable though.

At the prospect of KD smashing him into the following decade, Mina isn’t traveling with the squad. James Rodriguez also out.

Cash Konsa Mings Targett
      McGinn  Luiz
 Traore Barkley AEG
           Davis

There's your team with the possibility of Ramsay starting in place of Barkley because of his effort and running about to counter the loss of Watkins.
