Substitutes: Heaton, Elmohamady, Hause, Taylor, Nakamba, J. Ramsey, Philogene-Bidace, Davis, Wesley.

Barkley? So disappointing.

No issue with Barkley. He was fine last week and it is against his former club. The insistence on the same system week after week after week is what drives me insane. David deserves a chance to start. He is high in confidence so what do we have to lose? Nothing. And I would have liked to have seen Chukwuemeka on the bench too as opposed to Taylor or Elmo.

When league places are worth millions you pick your best team every game. You tinker in cup games and on dead rubbers

This certainly is not a dead rubber.

I certainly would give Davis longer but not done anywhere near enough to start and change our entire shape

We will not be relegated and Ross Barkley is a joke of a footballer.

This is the ideal time to start Davis.

I’m sorry but Dean Smith is not doing himself any favours.

Given that we've already said we won't be signing him, I see no point to us continuing to pick Barkley.

Remember Purslow wanted it put on record we wouldn't be using the loan model after we got promoted?  We've used it for Barkley and Drinkwater since then and got our fingers burnt

I'm completely over this season.

Do we really need both Elmo and Hause on the bench when Hause can cover either positions? Why not blood some hungry youth? Is 15 minutes really too much when we're safe? Anything is better than watching Traore, Barkley and El Khazi do nothing for 95% of the match.

It's Traore that's the one who should have been dropped. Feel sorry for Davis really and it's poor management from Smith, even if he doesn't rate him much. Davis came on and got a point for us last weekend. Surely deserved a start in a game that has very little riding on it.

When it's not your game - Barkley back-heeled it onto his standing foot. They're not that good, we'll do them at VP like last year if we get Jack off his deathbed. A team we should be looking to finish above in next two years.

Southgate is there, he popped up on screen for a couple of secs.

Barkley seemed to have a good end to the half. McGinn - I'm not at all convinced he's a top-half PL midfielder, but his performance tonight is excellent so far.

AEG a passenger - can't beat a man, doesn't whip in a cross, stealing a living as a winger.

More of the same in the second half and they should come away with at least a point if not all 3.

Yep he'll change it. They're way too open with Sigurdsson and Iwobi in midfield so think Iwobi will be taken off and they'll put a more defensive minded player in there so try to squeeze the play more.

Dean got to be switched on to that otherwise they'll start to dominate and we'll be mugged like West Ham away.

That's easily our best 45 minutes of 2021 so a big plus generally.

Southgate's there, and taking notes every time the camera has gone to him.  With the extended squad I think Ollie has pretty good chance of going. Calvert-Lewin nailed on.

Y'know, if we can get him cut price, I still might be tempted. Think of him as a Jack "multiplier" - they're mates, they push each other to do better things, and the points we get when both are on the field may make up for any shortfall when either one is injured.

The level we played at in the first half is the level that at minimum we need to be at just to be a top 6-8 side. And we clearly can do it. But with Jack and a few more proper players of the required quality no reason why we cannot be one of the teams constantly challenging for European positions and cups in years to come.

Is there a more frustrating player than Traore, I don’t there can be many ?

Agreed. The thing that gives me hope is next season both he an El Ghazi will be replaced.

Come on it’s his first season and as we know it takes a season in the PL to adjust

Big Ross looking better tonight. He needs a goal and he’ll be back for the Balloon Door.
You think?...watch him when they attacking....dont know who is pressing more...him or the ref.
awful without the ball, no effort to defend.

I said he’s looking better. Which isn’t hard.

Don’t care if we win or lose this we have played well.

Same for me. We look to have shaken off the attacking funk we were in.
not winning games like this has become a habit.
So no I will not be happy.

Yep.  They is space just in front of their CHs.

I don't mind him not offering much in defence if he's earning that right by making stuff happen. The exception is if he's back defending a set piece then he needs to do much better.

As a club generally I do agree with you but I just think we're in our second season back at the top against a club who are very well established, with Champions League aspirations. If their keeper didn't do an Emi we'd be winning by a decent margin too.

Ollie MOM for sure. Really put himself about tonight. Barkley, I’m not his biggest fan but, fair play to him as he played a bit more up to standard. What’s happened to McGinn’s passing these last few matches... plays his heart out but needs to get back to his best. Back 4 played really well too. I didn’t think we would win this one but, all of the team played with much more intensity and, thankfully, proved me wrong. What an idiot I am as “Who would bet against us!!”
