Title: Aston Villa v Man City Pre-Match Thread - Wednesday, April 21st 8.15pm
Post by: Toronto Villa on April 17, 2021, 02:57:03 PM
Erm...I'll admit..a bit scared. They just to Leeds at home. Perfect time to play them FFS

Anyway I amm sure we will  try and get into their half every so often and do our best to get to 30% possession and keep the score down

I'll stay conservative and go 3-1 Man City

All depends on what we can do with our 20% possession of having the ball. Doubt it will amount to much though. Just hope we put up a bit of a fight but, the way we have been playing lately suggests we have settled for what we have already got.

We absolutely shit ourselves in this fixture last season.

We should atleast have a better game plan this time.

They will still win, best team in Europe. Thankfully the most tolerable Champions League team in Europe aswell.

We played o.k up there. Remember it was 0-0 up to 80th minute before the scandal of the first goal and this was coming straight back off the covid break with minimal training so I don't see it as a beat down.

Will probably go same way as Spurs game though. We'll be competitive at 0-0 and then lose our way falling behind.

Not sure what we'll do out wide as Traore surely played his way out of a start after the abysmal Liverpool performance. Him and El Ghazi only senior options we have but it looks uninspiring currently either side of Ollie.

Would prefer to pack the midfield and push McGinn up close to Ollie.

I do wonder whether a random change to 3-5-2 might be beneficial for a game like this but no idea who the third CB would be. That's the way to start Davis anyway to give us a bit more presence up there.

We were good up there, despite losing, but then we were playing well at the time. We’re largely still out of form as we have been for months. They didn’t play well yesterday but Chelsea are better than us, I also thought they did play really well against Dortmund. Can’t see us causing them too many problems attacking wise if smith stick to the tried and tested. On that I really would like to see Davis in now, with Trez and Jack out there are limited options wide and with Barkley I think likely to be bombed out, it really does shout out time to change it up. I think we’ll lose but would like to see this team.

Martinez
Cash
Konsa
Mings
Targett
Luiz
McGinn
Ramsey
Watkins
Davis
Traore

I would love to be proven wrong, but how many times have we seen a side out of form or a striker who hasn’t scored for yonks get rejuvenated by Villa. A properly distracted team, champions league semi, league cup final coming up. Hopefully they rest lots of players. I’d be chuffed with a draw.

I know we are running out of options but we can't have Traore starting in his current form. We are effectively starting with 10 with him in the team. This isn't the game for AEG either. There's more chance of Paul McGrath starting instead of Engels so we might aswell picking a team with an eye to next season. I'd like to see a front three of McGinn, Davis and Watkins, something a bit different. It's going to be a tough night for us I expect.

Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett, Luiz, Ramsey, Nakamba, McGinn, Davis, Watkins

Kevin De Bruyne won't be playing for sure and there will be plenty of rotation again for Man City who look pretty jaded.

I think there's a chance here for Villa.
I can see Barkley , Nakamba and Elmo in the line up.

Barkley off Watkins and Nakamba in a 3 man midfield sitting with Douglas Luiz.

Elmo out wide supporting Cash.

Sanson, Trez and Grealish out. Our options are going to be very limited but I really hope Smith doesn't go for the expected front three of Traore and AEG on either side of Watkins. If ever there was a game we needed a direct option in Davis and a solid midfield set up this is it.

I’m with you on that one. By and large, since the turn of the year, we seem to have gone backwards. Got to hand it Leeds, they won against this lot with only 10 men. Sadly, I don’t see us matching that. It’s not only us though. Most of the matches seem to have turned into pre season kick abouts. Even the teams that have something to play for seem to be dross.
