We all hope the expected return of captain Jack will galvanize the club and all of us and get us back to winning ways. Nobody is expecting a ten game win streak like last time he was out for a significant spell as we are playing at a much higher level. But I hope it will at least reignite our stuttering season starting with a win this weekend against a much improved Fulham side that has Newcastle in its sights. This won’t be easy at all but I think we will get a much needed victory.
I’ll go 2-0 - Watkins and Konsa.
-
4-2
Jack 2, Ollie, Ginnie.
-
Martinez
Targett
Mings
Konsa
Cash
Luiz
Sanson
McGinn
Grealish
Watkins
Traore
4-0 Villa, with all four goals coming I'm the first half. Or a win, any win.
-
0-2.
-
I'd like us to start without Grealish. Hammer them then bring him on for a late hat-trick cameo...
Could be tight.
-
Massive game for Fulham. I expect them to get something from it.
We are the sort of team you want to play if you are in a relegation scrap, poor form and nothing to play for.
-
This feels like a bit of a reset moment, particularly with the return of Grealish. One would hope that this will galvanise a strong finish to the season, in fact I've held the belief that our season will pan out this way. Following a good start we would dip (I didn't legislate for the captain being injured though) and then finish well. Hopefully this will be the case starting on Easter Sunday.
3-1
-
March is over, no fcuking excuses. Let's have an April like 2008/2019.
-
Will be interesting to see where Grealish is picked. On left or at 10. Likely to be the former given how poor our other options have been in that position. Important game for us. Think we should be leaving McGinn on the bench after the hectic week he had with Scotland. Sanson and even Barks have had the benefit I hope of some intensive training and maybe should be given a go.
----------Martinez
Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett
------Luiz, Nakamba
Sanson, Barkley, Grealish
-----------Watkins
-
Hopefully get Barkley and Grealish back in the team for this. I'd go....
Martinez
Cash
Konsa
Mings
Targett
Nakamba
McGinn
Traore
Barkley
Grealish
Watkins
-
Fulham are no mugs, they have a good attacking threat. With Jack back we'll be too strong for them though. We will win.
-
Fulham are a real Jekyll & Hyde team. They were a shambles in the opening weeks of the season and can still look shambolic at times but recently I have also seen them put in far better performances than Newcastle, Albion and Sheffield United have lately.
Villa to win by the only goal of the game.
-
Wrong thread!
-
I'm going for a 2-0 win with Watkins and Traore scoring.

Villa 3 Shit town near Chelsea 0
-
Their fighting for their lives, we’re mid table and in poor form, would normally have away shock all over it, but the Grealish factor is huge, especially as you would of thought he’ll be fighting for his euro spot after so long out and with an England manager who doesn’t need much excuse not to play him.
2-1 Villa (Watkins, Grealish).
Think after his exploits for Scotland we should push McGinn further up with Sanson and Luiz holding. Traore should be the only out of form winger picked, the rest picks itself.
-
Was texting my Fulham mate about this one a couple of weeks ago. Seems like we’d both forgotten the international break was happening. I’d gone with 1-1 and he’d gone 1-0 Fulham. We got back to it yesterday and he asked if Grealish was still injured. I said no JG is back and he just replied Doh! I’ve really got no idea how this one will go. Hopefully a Villa win and a clean sheet. I’d be tempted to start with Jack on the bench and see what happens.
-
3-1 (Watkins 2, Traore)
I would like to see Deano introduce some of the younger players from the bench over the next ten games starting with Louie Barry and Aaron Ramsey. A perfect opportunity and very little pressure on them to perform.
-
Emi
Cash Konsa Mings Targett
Marv
Barkley SJM
El Ghazi Jack
Watkins
Subs: Heaton, Doug, Sanson, Davis, Bert, Engels, Elmo, Ramsey, Taylor
2-0 win
-

maybe swap Barkley for Ramsey J. And that looks alright.
-
2-1 with Fulham to score first.
-
We really do need to win this with games against Liverpool and Mn City coming up. I really couldn't face finishing below the likes of Leeds in their first season back.
-
3-0 Villa, Watkins to get 2 don’t care who gets the other
-
Dean is saying he’s hopeful that Jack will be fit for Fulham match.
As far as the euros go, and knowing Southgate, I think he may just sneak Jack in the squad and, have him warming the bench with Mings. Doubt very much that Ollie will even make the squad. Plus, as far as Villa go, it is more than obvious that Dean is playing McGinn in the wrong position. Forget Trez and El Ghazi, be brave and push McGinn up as an old style inside forward with Jack taking a wider role.
-
Villa are usually good at helping out the opposition when they are in crap form, so I am glad we've had a break to get their collective heads together. A win, any win, by any score, no matter how scabby, will be very welcome. Stop the rot.
-
Nailed on 1-1, 4-2-3-1 formation with McGinn back to being an ineffective defensive player.
Davis was excellent when he came on against spuds and should be given a start alongside Watkins, but he won't be because Smith only knows two formations; 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.
Meanwhile... Leicester have won their last three matches playing with two up front after switching it up from their usual 3-4-3.
-

Had a quick look at the table today and they’ll be above us if the beat Sheffield today, albeit played a couple of games more. Made me feel very twitchy!! We absolutely have to finish above them lot!
Apparently Fulham haven’t lost in 8 away games? Lots of draws I guess. Jack has to play, I think comments of easing him in off the bench are wide of the mark.
-
Hopefully the WBA match will mean we are not complacent tomorrow. I’m not confident.
-
2-1 to us. Winner from a winger. Just not sure which one.
-
Could do with a win in this one.
-
A must win IMO
Martinez
Cash
Konsa
Mings
Target
McGinn
Nakamba
Sanson
Traore
Watkins
Grealish
-
A must win IMO
Why a must win?
-
It clearly isn't a must win because we're safe and got nothing to play for. However, I can see why people are putting importance on this one if we don't want to completely limp over the line. There aren't many winnable games on paper left and this is one of them.
-
One of the few people to agree with me.... DS has not learnt previously from not leaving SJM out after hectic internationals. He’s previously always had poor games or tiered back with us.
-
A must win IMO
Why a must win?
Which are the must not win games ?
-
2 wins in the previous 10.
-
Can win, should win, must win, will fucking win.
-
Hard to call this one. It's not going to be easy and Fulham can be half decent on their day. Hoping that with Jack coming back this will be the start of our good end of season run.
-
2 wins in the previous 10.
That’s the Easter spirit.

But Jesus wasn't still 7 points from safety with an inferior goal difference having played a game more.

Happy Easter, one and all!
A win would be nice, Villa. Please.
Thanks! XXX
John McGinn to score, mayhap?

Romans away was always going to be tough
-
0-1 loss - Fulham will be right up for this, we have nothing to play for and are in terrible form.
Big summer ahead
-
We haven't got anybody who's good on crosses.
-
I honestly can't entertain anything other than a Villa win today, even with how lacklustre we've looked recently. They've lost half their games, all but damn it. Even their recent form isn't great, a bizarre win at Anfield the only one in five. If they can't score against leaky sides, they certainly won't today.
Us several, Watkins with most of them, them none.
Someone earlier said about resting McGinn after his herculean national efforts. I'd go along with that, certainly if Grealish is back.
-
Newcastle have won two games out of the last eighteen.
-
We haven't got anybody who's good on crosses.
We did come back from the dead last season though
-
I wouldn’t rest McGinn, he’ll be flying after scoring three goals in the last 2 games for Scotland. Instead release the bats and push him further up, behind Ollie, jack and Traore. Have Sanson and Luiz sitting.
Looking forwards to seeing Jack and Targett combining again today down the left, Targetts got forward well the last few games, to find El Ghazi dawdling, or Tez chasing his tail in a circle.
I’m sure Fulham will be targeting this as one the games they should win. But start on the front foot, get an early goal and we’ll do them.

You can all make fun and mock the day of the Lord as much as you like but be warned a special place in hell awaits. It is the sin of the highest order to stage a trivial game of leisure activity on Easter Sunday.
-Disgusted of Aston Parish.

medieval mumbo jumbo. Villa to win and get back on track.

I’m eggscited about that.

Surely hell is hell, end of. Why would there be a particularly special part of hell that is more hellish than regular hell?
-
A win today and a good performance, no excuses. 2-0 Villa. Ollie (2)
-
Mitrovic may start for them, having scored 5 goals for Serbia in 3 matches, not started many games for Fulham this season. Agree with R & B wouldn't rest McGinn and would play him further forward, also think Sanson deserves another start. Great to see Jack back, hopefully he's fit enough to start, if not get at least 30 mins game time.
-
I don't mind it personally, no problem. But be interesting to hear all the piss taking out of Mohammed and all that bollocks come Eid time or whatever they call it! Like I say I ain't fussed but just saying some could be offended and I can imagine the hypocritical backlash on here if someone did dare say anything anti Muslim.

Ah. Easter. Great day for the dairy industry bastards.
2-2 draw.

Happy Easter to everyone here on H&V, comedians and jokesters of all persuasions included.

These are Easter puns. I wouldn't draw Mohammed into this...

I wonder what football hell looks like. I always imagined football purgatory to be like the journey to Selhust Park and football hell being like arriving at Selhurst Park.
-
It may not be as far away from VP as that, Damo.
There’s a candidate or two within a few miles, according to threads on here!

I am one of them "They" as you call it and I do make fun of various things to do with "Them" on here. There is a difference between anti-muslim and anti-islam comments. Criticism of Islam is acceptable and many on here who I respect have made such comments and that's ok. Just climb off the mountain you have placed yourself on.
-
So is Jack going to be our saviour today? We've given him up for Lent, it's time for his resurrection.
-
Let’s hope we have the same the level of tolerated “humour” come Eid.
-
I hope not, puns are shite.
No, not Shi'ite.
-
Eid's rubbish for football-related puns.
-
On me Eid son

Mountains (not coming to him so he will have to go to them) tend to be associated with Muhammed, Jesus (sermons on ) seemed to prefer mounts.

And that'd be it, I reckon.

Buddha'm sure every religion is a potential mecca for humourous wordplay, if you sikh it out.

EI'd take the piss out of Islam, but don't really know enough about it to make any puns. So on a lovely sunni day, when we sadly can't be at Villa park because of Quran-tine rules, let's hope that Emi, Cash, Konsa Mings and Targett are our 5 pillars.

Any one else heard the rumours that Jacks not playing today. I hate posting shit like this, so yes why are you doing it then!! But I have had a few messages that Jack is out. Probably the normal Chinese whispers, Twitter bull shit!

Yeah no, Jack felt it a bit on the grass, or the 3G running machine. He'll definitely be back next week for Liverpool, but if not then Chelsea on the last day of the season like we said all along.

In the unlikely event you mean "explosive" in the sense of "exciting, then I quite agree. Although the statement is a little obvious.
If you used the word as an attempt to make you own Islam-pun, you're a ******.
Your choice.

Look on the bright side, if we lose then Newcastle drop into the bottom three. Not that we're going to lose of course.

Can see them being a bit lively for us today.
We’re going to have to find out shooting boots to win this.

it may just mean JM thinks the amount of goals in today’s games have made them exciting.

Apparently not quite fit for todays game but should be fit for the next.
It is deja vu all over again. Let's hope it isn't the same repeat to fade story for the rest of the season.

Fulham have gone eight away games without defeat.
Fulham's only away win at Villa Park in seventeen attempts came in their last game at Villa Park seven years ago.
