We go again...A win tonight would be super nice please chaps headed into the weekend. Please and thank you. Jack or not we need to winning games against sides like this. I don't get why Sanson lost his spot, and I would have preferred AEG to Trez. Cash on the bench. Thought he might start

I worry about Dwight Gayle.

We basically start a goal down. We need to score two to win.

Interesting line-up. Hope we get a positive result. Anything less and Dean may have opened himself up to some criticism.
Come on Villa! UTV!

Trez on left wing is horrible. If Cash and AEG are fit enough for the bench they should be starting. We knew it before hand but this is certainly going to be a struggle. There are options on the bench to change things.

A quite negative line up v the might of North East. El Ghazi and Cash should have been in from the start.

Them: Dubravka, Krafth, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett, Willock, Shelvey, Hayden, Fraser, Joelinton, Gayle.

Subs: Carroll, Ritchie, Lewis, Hendrick, Fernandez, Manquillo, Murphy, Darlow, Sean Longstaff.

Midfield should be on front foot as they should see plenty of the ball. All of them need to put a performance in.

0-3
Ramsay
Watkins
Traore

Hmmm, not too sure about that but would be happy to be proved wrong. Maybe just a little too early for Cash and saving El Ghasi for last 30 minutes. I hope tonight is those one in four games where Traore is world class.

Crap selection. If Cash is fit enough for the bench he should start. Same for El Ghazi. Luiz needs to put in a performance or it's Sanson's place for the next few games for me.

Trez I dont get at least El Ghazi can score . Id have had Sanson start too .  If Cash is fit get him in as Elmo as cost us goals ..

Lets go for these from the first second , score a couple of quick goals and then relax...............

Feel much less confident having seen the team. Can't see how we are going to control the game or create much.

Can't see why Cash and El Ghazi aren't in the team. If they have fitness issues then they shouldn't be on the bench surely?

Hope I'm wrong.

Some bonkers comments on here, if Cash is on bench it means he’s able to cover part of the game if needed but ideally not to play from star, it’s not rocket science.

No need to rush him back and risk a strain against these when the Spurs game is nine days away. We should have enough quality on the pitch to beat these without taking unecessary risks.

He did buy him for 14m only a few weeks ago!

I'm sure he will get minutes tonight at some stage. He's a bit lightweight just yet for 90 mins of EPL midfield play I think. I'm happy with Ramsey in but Trez on left is almost a guaranteed sub we will have to make already. Big game for Luiz, in the team on reputation only currently, needs to reward Smiths faith in him.

Pretty amazing people are surprised that, without our best player, who is statistically one of, if not the, best players in Europe this season, who has created more goals than anyone across the five major leagues, we create a lot less and are not as good.

Not that it matters but they said 70 to Villa at that time. Latest is 40/60.

Pretty amazing people are surprised that, without our best player, who is statistically one of, if not the, best players in Europe this season, who has created more goals than anyone across the five major leagues, we create a lot less and are not as good.

Some are bizarrely scandalised, it's true. Nonetheless, after the money spent, it's a little alarming to see how close to relegation we might have been without him.

We weren't that great with him this year.

Lost at home to Leeds, Brighton and Soton - and drew at home and lost away with Jack.

Eh? This year, not this season.

Defensively sound.

Feel Mings has tried to take on Joelinton physically and he doesn't need to.

Dougie covering well and no real dangers in our box.

Build up is so-so and while I feel we carry more menace, the quality of ball hasn't been there.

Feel we're carrying Ramsey and the midfield set up centrally isn't right.

Watkins touch has not been there, although he is consistently fouled.

East with hindsight, but Ramsey looks like the wrong decision for tonight. I’d bring Sanson on at half time. These are shite and it will take is 10 minutes of sustained pressure and they’ll crack. That was very similar to the 2nd half performance against wolves, other than Newcastle didn’t create anything. Hopefully we’ll get our act together and play like the 1st half against wolves. Everything’s bouncing off Ollie at the moment

Think it's been his best 45 mins in a very long time. He has made a number of interceptions and tidy passes. Konsa has been as composed as ever. AEG has some a bit of life since coming on.

That aside, this has been every bit as bad as we feared pre game. Mings has been appalling, really needs the coaching staff to tear into him at half time. Watkins has been terrible too, his first touch is horrible. Ramsey unfortunately has let the game pass him by. Elmo and Trez....yikes, would struggle in championship.

Thankfully Newcastle have been equally as bad. Joe Linton getting the better of the arm wrestling match with Mings, Willock showing some nice touches but not much else.

Watkins needs some help. Ramsey off and Davis on. I ain't a big fan of Davis, but Watkins needs someone closer to him..

Ramsay looks like he doesn't have the confidence to either drive with the ball, or play more ambitious passes, so I think your 442 idea might be the right plan.

Yes, sorry to say Ramsey has looked a little out of his depth.
That’s terrible indictment when it’s Newcastle he’s playing against.
He’s not ready for it yet, next season for him

Remember in the 90’s we had Tommy Johnson or Julian Joachim. Who would come on and just run around. Even an option like that would be an improvement on JJ tonight.
I chortled at that. I recall those days very well.
or Sasa Curcic would try and dribble round the entire crowd before passing
😂 Humour me some more.....it’s like I’m back there 😂

They've got 3 centre mids with Fraser in front and the striker playing wide which means they out number us in there and we can't push the fullbacks on as easily as we like to. The way we need to counter it is for Watkins to hold the ball better but he looks fucked and is offering nothing.

I don't agree with the comments about Ramsey though, I think he's been the one in midfield trying to get forward and has been caught out because the ball wasn't sticking.

The French commentators are now asking what will happen when Jack fucks off.

I will get shot down for this however, I genuinely think that our better players will start thinking about moving on if we don't improve and sadly they might mean improving the management to help attract better players.
An improvement from 17th to 9th not enough in the space of 9 months?

It's a remarkable achievement and one to be proud of (albeit we haven't finished 9th yet).  But the likes of Jack want to play at the highest level so we need to push on.

A triple hopped golden ale from Aldi, my dad picked them up for me last weekend, I think he realised that the way Villa have been playing recently I needed alcohol to get me through watching matches!

McGinn has to stop the cross. No pressure on the ball.

Last I'd like to see of Elmo really too.

Felt there was a foul thete on Elmo, but poor.

Yep, agreed, Got eased out to let the ball through but we should've done better from the cross.

I think it's time to figure out how to win without Grealish as he will be off surely now. No Europe, he will go.

4 or 5 times in last 2 minutes we had chances to just kill the game and get it into the corner. McGinn has to close that down so much quicker as well. Not enough quality, but we know playing against a Bruce side will be difficult to break down

El Khazi was fucking useless all night and rounded off his performance with a flick on the edge of our penalty area that led to the goal

Well done agent Clark!

Just can’t give Villa any credit can you.

I strongly suggest you give it a bit of a rest. Not going to Stand for it, especially from a suspected returning formerly banned poster.

We have so many decent players playing well beneath their best, since the virus outbreak the players look flat. Jack may be back for the Spurs game, fingers crossed.

We didn't deserve to win but should have been able to hang on for 5 seconds. The defence isn't a great problem. It's the lack of creativity that is worrying
