That looks a very weak side to me, especially defensively.
I hope we're up for the effort that is required and clinical when it counts, as they never seem to get beat by many.

My concern is that although that line up was right against a possession team like Leedzzz to disrupt their rhythm, we need to be taking the game more to this lot.
Personally I'd have had one of either Luiz or Barkley back in place of Ramsey.

Absolutely, refs are regularly inconsistent to our detriment, we're too big to get a bit of help as the underdogs but not big enough to get everything out own way, has been the case with Villa for years but anytime a contentious decision goes our way (like the hawkeye thing) it gets raised over and over again.

We've had some good moments and Traore nearly scored the goal of the season but let's be honest about this. Sheffield Utd are headed for the Championship, have a 4th or 5th choice 38 year old centre back and he's been comfortable. We haven't been anywhere near good enough.
We have got to show more guile and cuteness going forward.
This is a very poor team we are playing. Let's show that.

Were well on top from 15 minutes onwards and they just strung together a really good move against run of play. Of course them being where they are makes it seem worse but it's not like they've been trashed regularly like we were in 15/16.
Would be hugely disappointing to lose but I don't expect that. Will probably have to use the subs bench to win this.

The midfield is effective and functional, but McGinn, Ramsey or Nakamba don’t move the ball quick enough. Nakamba always, always needs to trap the ball then play it. He never plays it with his first touch.
I think Watkins looks isolated as well. When we go long he is stranded.

Interesting what DS does. Sanson for Ramsey who's struggled for first time to get into prem game is very obvious change and Barkley is also a cert.

Watkins and El Ghazi have been linking up loads. The front 3 have all had their moments. I do think we need to get a fourth body closer to them though.

This team was okay sitting deep against Leeds defending an early lead and trying to hit on the break. There's not enough creativity to take the game to Sheffield or to break them down now they have a lead to defend. I think our best chance is to try Barkley or Sanson or both. Maybe even Trez who will at least run at them with some headless chicken energy and maybe tuck away loose ball in the box.

Yes, if we win this it will be the most impressive win of the season, given all that is against us: conceding the first goal, playing a shit team, playing midweek, winnjng the previous game.
If we can overcome those obstacles, I will be mightily impressed.
PS I think that there is little doubt now that the players underestimate these lower table teams, despite what Dean says. Trouble is, when we start sloppy, it's really hard to get the sharpness back during the course of a game.

Sometimes you just have to accept opposition are allowed to score a good goal just as we scored some good goals in 15/16 but were ultimately rubbish.
Have to credit McGoldrick doing that superb pass on halfway line and then breaking his neck to get into the penalty area 10 seconds later.
Unless I missed another that was their only serious shot at goal. It happens but we need to quickly get on front foot second half otherwise it will feel like one of those halves where time quickly ticks by.
