60 today have a great birthday Gary

He was a friend of a friend of my next door neighbours and I met him at my neighbours 21st birthday party. Somebody told Gary Shaw a young Villa fan was in the room and I was introduced to him. He asked me to mind his coat whilst he danced and I felt ten feet tall. When he got his coat back he thanked me for looking after it and he told me I was a "friend for life". I was ten and it was on the night after we had won away at Coventry in the title winning season. Although in later years I heard he had gone back to my next door neighbours for an after party and thrown up all over the place  ;D

My favourite player. How good was Gary Shaw?

Like our modern day hero, an outstanding player and boyhood bought through our system that was born and raised in a so-called nose stronghold.

We've got Grealish and Shaw, they've got Tait and Hopkins.

Happy Birthday.

Superb footballer - such a shame that his career was cut short by injury

Withe and Shaw went together like bacon and eggs and boy did they sizzle.

What a player, what could have been.

When Gary Shaw burst onto the scene, I used to go to any match Villa were involved in, southern floodlite (yes I went to Millwall for the final), would have gone to Mars if we had a game there.  Anyway I digress  - remember that every 10th fan claimed to know Gary Shaw back in the day.

Happy birthday anyway Gary Shaw - sure I will see you at a book signing/Holte Suite quite soon

When he hits the ball, he’s bound to score

I thought it was “when he gets the ball, he’s bound to score”.

My claim to fame was standing next to him in a pub toilet.

Fantastic player.

If you never had the pleasure to see Gary Shaw play, I would say he was very similar in style to Son of Spurs and also had the same sort of understanding with Peter Withe that Son does with Kane.

He was a fantastic player and would have been an England regular but for injuries, ahead of Lineker in the pecking order.  My absolute hero growing up, for obvious reasons!!

Son? really?  He wasn't quick and didn't run in many (any) goals from the half way line.  I'd say more of a cross between Dalglish and Kane, good with his back to goal, good on the ball and a great finisher.  Could have been one of the greats (and might have out-done Lineker) but for injury.

Yeah that was my take on the chant.....my claim to fame was discussing Chris Nichol’s worldy against Everton with both Shaw and Nichol in the car park outside the ground

Yes, Shaw was vastly superior to old Jug-ears. Every goal Lineker scored should have gone to Gary.

Best finisher I've ever seen & hadn't even come close to his peak.
