We go again. Tough on AEG if it's not Covid but bench is decent. Good to see Ross back.

Great bench 5 defenders and a keeper
-
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EsMMNuRXYAIVoLr?format=jpg&name=medium)
-
Great looking side. Think that's only Hause absent from the squad who you'd expect to be in, given that Trez was still someway off fitness anyway.
-
Great bench 5 defenders and a keeper
One goalkeeper, four defenders (one of whom often plays wide midfield), two midfielders, a winger and a forward. With a couple of players, presumably, missing due to a pandemic. Struggling to find much to complain about.
-
Great bench 5 defenders and a keeper
eh? Elmo is defender or right midfielder, 3 true defenders, 2 midfielders and 1 winger and 1 forward plus a keeper
-
Come on Villa.

Yup.
-
I have a smile as wide as the Expressway tonight, I hope it's still there at 8pm.
-
And as predicted, no Aguero (Thank the Lord )
-
Good to see Ross back
-
El Ghazi will feel a bit hard done by, although we don't know who is still not 100 percent of course after covid. But that's a good strong team and bench.
-

Smith said there was a player he told had COVID and the player didn't believe him as he was flying. He was then in bed shattered with it for a few days. Given El Goalzi has been in such form, I suspect it might have been him.
Good team, come on you Villa boys!!
-
Strong team, bench needs to be a bit sexier. We need another attacking option.
-
Not what I was expecting at all. Given all the talk of players who got it, I had assumed we'd be missing at least a couple from the first choice 11, but that looks like us at pretty much full strength?
Let's got an give them a game - their current run has to end sometime!
-
I hope we target Stones tonight.
-
I hope they don't stone Targett
-
El shotatgoalzie to come in an score in the 74. Should be an exiting match. They win first half 1-0 and we win second 1-0.
-
Can't ask for more than that
-
Very happy with the team selected, I think that's about a strong starting 11 that we can put out.
-
A fresh rested team playing a tired team it can only lead to one thing.....
-
I had a sneaking suspicion we'd be close to full strength judging by how upbeat Dean Smith seemed in that interview he did the other day. Looking forward to other teams complaining that we've 'gamed the system' after we beat City with a free-flowing, energetic performance!
-
Jon Moss as refree?
-
Due to the conditions I'm not sure it's going to be a festival of football tonight
-
Gobby Cabbage on the BT - makes you barf.
-
Ferdinand and Savage have wanked themselves senseless over Man City.
-
Ferdinand and Savage have wanked themselves senseless over Man City.
Yep
-
I'll take an unexpected draw, like that against Chelsea recently.
-
Come on you Villa!
-
So looking forward to this but worried about a tonking - come on Villa!
-
Jesus
-
Not entirely sure how Martinez saved that, but he did very well.
-
Unlucky from Traore. Held on to it a bit too long
-
Case for a pen on the Traore challenge?
-
Pitch looks slow
-
Ring-rusty!
-
Great block by Konsa.
-
City are really up for this but we don't look frightened. Come on you Villa boys!
-
Fucking hell Barkley.
-
3 on 2 and Barkley wastes it.
-
Man, this is head and shoulders over any of the top 6 games I’ve seen this season
-
Seen enough already to know we have them as worried as we are by them
-
Bit of rust on Barkley there. Should have done better.
-
Barkley is miles and miles off the pace.
-
Cash is certainly getting tested.
-
Fucking hell Barkley.
x 2
-
Interesting Jack and Bert have changed sides
-
Fair to say this won't finish nil nil
-
Living dangerously here.
-
Blimey can see we’re a bit short of sharpness - unsurprisingly.
-
It’s not comfortable viewing so far really.
-
Jon Specsavers Moss reffing. Don't expect we'll get a penalty.
-
It's almost as if neither side is bothering with a midfield.
-
It’s not comfortable viewing so far really.
Reall?
-
It’s not comfortable viewing so far really.
Reall?
Fo show.
-
Maybe it’s the commentary in my hotel room... fairly biased. Lots of pressure from them, we’ve already shown that we can hit them on the break.
If we can settle them down a bit, and quieten the pressure down...
-
We're getting murdered down our right. Traore doesn't offer any support to Cash at all.
-
Kyle Walker going off.
-
Killing us on our right hand side. Need to sort that ASAP as Traore not really giving full support to Cash.
-
They are a really good side and Foden is a cracking player. But we need to tighten up on our right hand side or we will certainly concede soon. There's goals in this for us too if we keep our heads.
-
20 minutes in and we haven't conceded. Satisfactory so far.
-
Come on you Villa convalescents!
-
Cancellao just doing what he wants down our right. Elmo and Gilbert double swap for Cash and Traore ?!
-
I'm thinking we may see Elmo for Traore at some point.
-
Kyle Walker going off.
Or not.
-
We're getting murdered down our right. Traore doesn't offer any support to Cash at all.
Yep - teams used to target our left seeing Targett a a weak link, now they seem to go down the right knowing they can get 2 or 3 on 1 against Cash.
-
Let’s face it this is about as tough a game as you could face right now. They’re the form team in the league, they’re packed with brilliant players and we’re coming off the back of a COVID outbreak. We’re doing alright so far.
-
Our right hand side always gets targetted
-

The voice of reason, and so far we are doing ok
-
I can't believe the improvement in Targett, he's a different player to a year ago.
-

The voice of reason, and so far we are doing ok
and we've had a couple of decent chances of our own.
-
I thought DeBruyne was a doubt. Obviously he plays then.
-
Cancelo giving us big problems. Matty Cash getting his toughest test tonight
-
We may well lose in the end but this is a really gutsy effort so far for our first game back.
-
We’re growing into it now.
-
Some of the passing in our approach play is really lovely to watch. The change in this group in the past year is nothing short of miraculous.
-
Disappointing from Traore there. In these conditions, zing that across the box
-
I can't believe the improvement in Targett, he's a different player to a year ago.
He’s been superb. And whereas last year talk of England was borderline ludicrous, he’s absolutely in that conversation now. Really excellent improvement.
-
WTF was that Traore?
-
Come on Villa
Come on Villaaa
-
Terrible waste by Traore
-
I can't believe the improvement in Targett, he's a different player to a year ago.
He’s been superb. And whereas last year talk of England was borderline ludicrous, he’s absolutely in that conversation now. Really excellent improvement.
Shows what some game time can do.
-
Jack and Ross are developing into something quite special when we're on the attack.
-
Traore having a bit of a shocker at both ends so far. Bound to score then
-
Now Walker goes off.
-
Cancelo giving us big problems. Matty Cash getting his toughest test tonight
He's causing loads of problems. We look so much better with Barkley in the middle and Grealush on the left, sorry El Ghaz.
-
I’d take Traore off at half time. Just doesn’t seem to be with the pace of this match at all.
-
Prefer El Ghazi to Traore personally.
-
They’re good but so are we
-
They’re good but so are we
Yep, unlike last year we don’t look out of place at all.
-
Traore needs to help Cash more sometimes
-
Giving the ball away cheaply at times
-
We can't keep letting them have a free pass down our right.
-
Watkins still looking massively out of sorts.
-
Traore needs to help Cash more sometimes
He’s either going to get a bollocking at HT or taken for AEG depending on how healthy AEG is. Cash needs help
-
We’ve got to deal with the drag backs. They’re just dropping into pockets of space.
-
Fucking hell McGinn
-
Fucking hell McGinn
Indeed
-
SJM having a shocker.
-
Just need to quieten Foden and we’ll be ok
-
Need Elmo on for Traore
-
You'll never beat the Villa! You'll never beat the Villa!
-
Nice play chaps
-
Decent effort Boss
-
Always important to remind ourselves of the obvious facts. That their team cost around 1/2 billion quid, on a superb win streak and with one of the best managers on the planet. Playing at their ground. Oh and we had Covid for two weeks.
-
Fuck off Pep
-
So far, despite the early pressure, we’re looking good.
There’s some rust but we’re holding our own. I’m very proud of this team... whatever happens, we’re not afraid of having a go.
-
We are a fucking good side. What an improvement over the last few seasons
-
Listening to these commentators you wouldn't know we were playing!
-
Cash with a great little bit of defending there.
-
Listening to these commentators you wouldn't know we were playing!
Man Citeh appreciation society.
-
Traore is providing fuck all support defensively
-
Targett has been immense so far
-
Watkins still looking massively out of sorts.
I couldn't disagree more.
-
Fucking hell Traore. Pick a fucking man up just once please.
-
Watkins still looking massively out of sorts.
I couldn't disagree more.
He's looked a lot sharper since then to be fair!
-
Brilliant from Cash I free
-
Traoré is going to get a rocket up his arse at HT
-
Well done lads, good half.
-
Traoré is going to get a rocket up his arse at HT
He needs the curly finger.
-
Targett has been immense so far
Yes and Matty Cash is a machine.
-
Citeh are brilliant
But paradoxically they are beatable.
-
Heroic by the fullbacks especially so far.
-
That was a cracking effort in the circumstances. Yes we’re rusty, but even when rusty we possess more threat than any Villa team in the last decade. We might we’ll lose, because we’ll tire even more. But fine effort so far. Targett - bloody brill.
-
Bloody hell: sterling defensive performance, first half.
-
Not bad at all, some outstanding defending. Only change I would consider is Ramsey for Traore as Cash needs the help.
To all the top folk with their best wishes last week, me now over the Covid, was some very hairy days but back on the up. Cheers to all and UTV 🍻😊
-
Great game tbh.
-
Barkley looking rusty, understandably so, and making some poor decisions. Traore not at the races. Defending well, but needing to.
-
Superb from the back 5, cracking defending. Just need to keep it up for another 45mins!!
-
Heroic by the fullbacks especially so far.
Back 4 and Emi have all been absolutely superb.
-
Good defending. Havent clicked going forward. Again we do stand as an exiting and good team. I m halfway to being a nervwreck. Pause.
-
Glad you’re on the up PV
-
Barkley looking rusty, understandably so, and making some poor decisions. Traore not at the races. Defending well, but needing to.
I really wish Barkley had put Jack in to the left of him a few mins before half time. He's getting into dangerous spots but you can tell he's not match fit.
-
Targett and Mings have been the 2 best players on the pitch so far, completely taken Stirling out of the game in that half.
-
A really good half, City are always going to have the vast majority of the ball, that's a given, but we're doing well restricting the number of clear cut chances they're getting (which isn't many - I think 2 shots on target?). We also look dangerous on the break. I just hope we can keep up this effort for 90 minutes given the last fortnight we've had of restricted training - it must have has 'some' effect on fitness, surely?
-

Excellent..!
-
Watkins still looking massively out of sorts.
I couldn't disagree more.
He's looked a lot sharper since then to be fair!
I think he's done all he can so far. He's not had a single chance. He deserves credit after single handedly chasing down the city defence for the whole of the first half.
-
Target is having an outstanding game
-
Too many unforced errors, we are giving the ball away all the time and asking the defence to keep bailing us out. Can not last long.
-
Citeh are brilliant
But paradoxically they are beatable.
All fart and no shit, as my grandad would say. They'll dominate possession, and knock it around one-touch looking great - but they're not creating that many good chances (yet).
-

Yeh I agree. He has a thankless task tonight. He’s defending high up and it’s not easy. We have to try and give him attacking chances but it won’t be easy. Let’s be honest a point is a win today.
-
Foden is having a field day on our right flank. Cash not getting any support from Traore again but he is also backtracking into our box too much. We have to make a change there. Maybe Nakamba even and switch McGinn over there in a midfield three.
Our midfield duo, odd occasion aside, haven't been able to break their press. Resulting in a lot of long balls to no one in particular. Agreed on Barks, miles off pace and trying unnecessary flicks when we need to retain possession.
Still in the game but under huge pressure.
-
Citeh are brilliant
But paradoxically they are beatable.
All fart and no shit, as my grandad would say. They'll dominate possession, and knock it around one-touch looking great - but they're not creating that many good chances (yet).
Blimey - mockers.
-
Some outstanding blocks from us in the box but feels inevitable one will deflect in eventually.
Man. City obviously watched the Chelsea game and how poor Traore is at reading the play once he gets back alongside Cash, too easily for them to slip a ball through and have a good crossing situation. Would get AEG early on second half.
Some good promising early counters for us, just the wrong weight of pass each time. We can score here for sure with a bit more composure.
-
Too many unforced errors, we are giving the ball away all the time and asking the defence to keep bailing us out. Can not last long.
Pessimistic as ever
-
Really need to keep hold of the ball and make most of their defence, we can open it as we have but done OK so far. Usual, they could just do 1 pass or move and do us.
-
Too many unforced errors, we are giving the ball away all the time and asking the defence to keep bailing us out. Can not last long.
It's the first time I've properly noticed just how good City's pressing is. When they lose possession the whole side goes into a pressing frenzy for half a dozen seconds. It makes it very difficult to get anything going yourself. I bet their stats for regaining possession within five or six seconds of losing it are pretty good.
-
https://twitter.com/tybracey/status/1351965796466098188?s=21
Cool as the other side of your pillow
-
I would get some legs on for Barkley and Traore.
-
I think we've rattled them.Pep looking stressed, one or two City players not comfortable.Let's go at them.
-
The support for Cash from Traore is not very good - again I think
-
Jack looked under par
-
Still not sure what happened when Cash and Mings kept the shot out from the headed down corner. Think I have seen it 5 times.
-
Excellent from Targett. Some rustiness from McGinn in transition. Barkley and Traore not switched on quite fully for different reasons in the final third. Traore with decision making and Barkely in execution.
Gifted something daft in the first minute and caught on the break just before half time, bar that we've defended well.
We have such threat on the break. Positive all things considered.
Now let's not do what we did last year at the start of the 2nd half.
-
Citeh are brilliant
But paradoxically they are beatable.
All fart and no shit, as my grandad would say. They'll dominate possession, and knock it around one-touch looking great - but they're not creating that many good chances (yet).
Blimey - mockers.
Obviously. But not meant like that. City are as likely as anyone to be top scorers in the league. But sometimes they can look like world-beaters with the way they play, but without being properly threatening. Sometimes they 'click', but they haven't so far, and we have to hope they continue looking great without scoring :-)
-

They've had more shots on Targett.
-
Citeh have not led at half time in only 4 games so far this season. They've gone on to draw one, lost the other 3.
Just sayin'.
-
Too many unforced errors, we are giving the ball away all the time and asking the defence to keep bailing us out. Can not last long.

They've only been doing last 3 and a half years.....
Hoping they don't bring Mahrez on as he usually rips us to bits like last season at VP. Think with way they're playing Gabriel Jesus would poach one in 6 yard box so that's two obvious subs for them to make.
We were in at 0-0 last season and then conceded 20 seconds after kick off so need to be a bit sharper here as we will get some chances the longer it's 0-0.
Big unknown is how our long out intensity will hold up for given the lack of training.
-
The support for Cash from Traore is not very good - again I think
When they attack down the right, Jack is right there with Targett. On the left, Traore is always a few yards forward of Cash and City keep exploiting that.
Still think we’re doing superbly considering our break, and the fact they’re bang in form.
-
Citeh have not led at half time in only 4 games so far this season. They've gone on to draw one, lost the other 3.
Just sayin'.
So's Robbie Savage. He's actually been quite complimentary which is a bit of a surprise.
-
I think we've rattled them.Pep looking stressed, one or two City players not comfortable.Let's go at them.
Pep is a proper spaz.
-
Good game for Trez this. Shame. I'd get Ghazi on though.
-
Commentators keep banging on about fitness and us fading.
They forget how fit we are.
-
Too many unforced errors, we are giving the ball away all the time and asking the defence to keep bailing us out. Can not last long.

I don't really watch full premier league matches apart from our own (well, it's very rare), so I haven't seen them play 90 minutes very much at all in the last few years. I didn't watch them at all while we were in the championship. Plus highlight shows (on any channel) don't tend to show the 'boring' stuff where moves break down and sides regain possession. It's the first time I've really paid attention to their patterns of play. I might be nearly four years late in my assessment, but I got there in the end :-)
-
Why do I not like Rio Ferdinand?
-
He’s fucking done it again.
Every fucking game Traore fucks up a clearance back into our box.
Every game
-
Traore is back there but he's not doubling up on the attacker.
-
He’s fucking done it again.
Every fucking game Traore fucks up a clearance back into our box.
Every game
Because his weak foot is just for standing on.
-
FFS Traoré you fucking oil tanker.
-
We look a bit tired already?
-
This is going to be a long half.
-
We look a bit tired already?
Alternately they are going for it and might tire themselves
-
Bottled it!
-
Lovely touch round De Bruyne from Traore.
-
Traore may be abit of a liability in defence but fucking hell that first touch to make a chance for himself was pure football porn.
-
Christ, close. Off the bar.
-
Jack looks out of sorts to me ?
-
This is a bit like the kids against liverpool just without the goals.
-
What a tackle Targett.
-
Tyrone trying to fuck up there.
-
Pity we cant get lil Louis on
-
Traore 😩
-
Traore is shit defensively, needs to go off ASAP.
-
How did Traore not outmuscle Foden?
-
This is a bit like the kids against liverpool just without the goals.
That's just a little bit insulting to the first team don't you think?
-
Traore is an accident waiting to happen
-
Think you can safely say Bert is work in progress for Dean
-
Giving foden far too much space
-
Shhhhhiiiit close again.
Make a change Dean.
-
Traore is the most one footed player I've seen since Kinkladze.
-
Targett has been fucking amazing today. Brilliant.
-
Targett really has improved so much.
-
It's starting to open up!
-
Ramsey and El Goalzi on.
-
How the fuck ?
-
Barkley so selfish all game.
-
Fresh legs much needed. Come on Villa!!!
-
Blimey that was close
-
We can do these 0-1
-
Brilliant defending by Mings again there, he's been exceptional tonight.
-
Jesus, how did they not score then, blimey.
-
Rapidly approaching sphincter quivering here.
-
Fucking hell this is relentless but whatever happens we are sooo good to watch.
-
I love games like this!
-
Rapidly approaching sphincter quivering here.
I’m fully clenched right now. I could crack rocks up there
-
He might be a horrible chav scrote, but he's a cracking player, Phil Foden.
-
Seriously how fucking good a signing has Emi Martinez been?
-
I have run out of fingernails here. The socks will be off so I can start on my toenails !
-
I dont want to watch but I have too.
-
I'm quite calm tbh, we'll probably concede but we've played so well. Compare this to the fuck awful performances against City last season.
-
Ederson is one ugly f**ker
-
He might be a horrible chav scrote, but he's a cracking player, Phil Foden.
Totally. His footwork is quite superb.
-
Neil Taylor coming on for Targett. I fear the absolute worst
-
Seriously how fucking good a signing has Emi Martinez been?
Absolutely phenomenal. I wouldn't swap him for a single keeper in the league.
-
Uh oh, Taylor on...
-
I'm quite calm tbh, we'll probably concede but we've played so well. Compare this to the fuck awful performances against City last season.
Exactly my view. Twelve months ago they'd have five or six by now.
-
Ah. Here’s Neil Taylor.
-
I'm quite calm tbh, we'll probably concede but we've played so well. Compare this to the fuck awful performances against City last season.
Agreed, the fight is nice to watch
-
-
Fuck Ramsey nearly in from a lovely pass by Ollie
-
Bollocks. Targett off for Taylor. Don't let us down pls Taylor.
-
SJM should have done better too. Shit
-
Shit. I think Targett might be my player of the season so far. Shame for him.
-
Fuck me Mings!
-
Fucking hell McGinn.
-
Fucking hell now Mings nearly an OG
-
McGinn fucking hell.
-
Mings gonna Mings.
-
Fucking hell at both ends
-
SJM must be pissed.
-
I'm quite calm tbh, we'll probably concede but we've played so well. Compare this to the fuck awful performances against City last season.
Agreed, the fight is nice to watch
I would have agreed ten minutes ago. We're at the point now where I'll be gutted if they score, because we've played so well and deserve at least a point.
-
Fuck
-
Fucking mings again...
-
Fuck!!!!! Mings with the error
-
VAR
-
that has to be offside surely?
-
Balls.
-
Mings you nonchalant twat!
-
Oh Mings, you dope.
-
It's been coming is an understatement
-
There we go, every single fucking game, fucking Mings. Twat.
-
It's been coming is an understatement
Maybe, but why fucking help them ?
-
Smith off now too. Oops
-
How is that not offside, came from 10 yards behind Mings to win the ball back.
-
Mings
-
House > Mings
-
Isn;t it off if he runs back from offside? If not then Mings has fucked up badly yet again.
-
Mings has been excellent and then does that, what an absolute tit.
-
Thanks again Mings!!
-
Fuuuuuuking hell Tyrone. Why???
-
Very typical.
-
Always going to be an individual error for the goal.
-
Mings best game for a while... but there's always a mistake.
-
Mings has been superb tonight too. But he’s good for one of those a game. And against top players it’s going to really cost.
-
Count how many goals Mings gives away from a careless mistake, it's all the bloody time.
-
Fucking mile off fucking side when the ball comes forward.
-
Studio ref says rodri offside for the goal
-
House > Mings
No he’s not.
-
Mings just doesn't seem to learn not to dwell on the ball in dangerous positions. Time after time he does it and he's not good enough to do it.
-
That had to be offside
-
I don't understand the rules of this game.
-
Studio ref says rodri offside for the goal
Probably why Deano blew a fuse
-
There you go the TV ref says it was offside - done by the officials yet again.
-
Stop blaming Mings, it was a fucking disgusting decision, Smith has been sent off for pointing it out.
-
And now the studio referee says it should have been offside
-
Peter Walton confirmed it was offside
-
To be fair, Mings has cleared a fuck ton of crosses tonight
-
You're a ****** Moss.
-
How is that not offside, came from 10 yards behind Mings to win the ball back.
You're right I'd missed that. Peter Walton saying he can't believe they didn't pull it back for offside
-
Deano calling fat moss a twat ?
-
Offside goal.
No question.
-
But what's the point in stopping eveything and then gifting them the ball to score?
-
I do wish Mings would stop trying to be clever, just remove the danger. When will he learn you can’t do this in this league?
-
I don't understand the rules of this game.
I think they will say he was on once Mings touched it (he should have been aware he was behind him) but the header was meant for him so he was surely off in that phase. Makes no sense to me.
-
We have been stitched up again by a dodgy VAR decision.
-
As much as Mings was a dick, it was clearly offside so VAR, yet again, is a joke.
-
Mings can't be blamed for that. He was in lots of space until the offside player who was clearly interfering with play as he played the ball.
It's bollocks.
-
You're a ****** Moss.
So what about VAR? Two trips to Manchester and robbed twice by officials.
-
I think they will say he was on once Mings touched it (he should have been aware he was behind him) but the header was meant for him so he was surely off in that phase. Makes no sense to me.
this is my understanding. mings should of caught the ball. or launched it first time.
-
To me... That feels a bit like the Leeds goal for some reason
-
That is offside - and they ref union must apologies for that almighty feck up
-
And now a pen
-
Moss has cheated us before - the non penalty for blatant handball at Arsenal last season. But what gets me is why the VAR seem to agree with him? I don't mind getting beat fairly and squarely but the number of outrageously dodgy decision we have against us is sickening.
-
The game is either fucked or corrupt. Pick one.
-
Screwed out of five points VAR
-
I've just seen it, what the actual fuck? How the fuck is that not offside FFS?
-
FUCK OFF YOU FAT ****** MOSS!
-
And now he's cheating us again - Fuck me
-
Villa concede penalty in Manchester shock.
-
I thought they stopped giving those point blank ones about a month ago
-
Fuck off.
-
Stop blaming Mings, it was a fucking disgusting decision, Smith has been sent off for pointing it out.
No. Mings not controlling and keeping the ball led to that shitty decision. He is paid to be a defender and regularly fucks up. As he did here. I don't care how good he has been all game. He fucked up.
-
Done out of a point by VAR once again. Nothing changes.
-
Fucking robbed again in Manchester. Fucking robbed.
-
That Pen saves the Ref and VAR, because the media will point out it's still 1-0 without the goal that should have been disallowed, so didn't affect the result. Which is bullshit.
An absolutely shocking decision the allow the first. 2-0 is really unfair on us.
-
Mings made a mistake but we have been absolutely fucking done by a dreadful officiating error. Fucking bullshit. In a 0-0 game, a game of such fine margins we cannot have individual errors but also cannot have brutal decisions go against us.
-

This.
-
Blaming Mings for being tackled from behind by someone a mile offside is a bit off
-
I'm just sick to death of this. How can the ref, the assistant referee + then VAR not see that Rodri was clearly, clearly coming from an offside position.
Dean is right. Moss is a twat. He is a cheat.
-
The game is corrupt. Simple as. Corrupt.
-
The game is either fucked or corrupt. Pick one.
t's corrupt in my view - VAR was meant to correct ropey decisions mad too often in favour of the Sky 6 but instead just corroborates them. I'm very close to giving up on it now.
-
So the two that hit hands in the City area were NOT penalties but the City one was. That seems fair enough NOT
-
Jon Moss 2 - 0 Aston Villa.
What a thunderc**t.
-
Mings should do better but the fucker is a mile offside. And that is never ever a penalty.
-

No it didn't. The referee and linesman made that shitty decision without any help from Mings.
-
People will blame VAR, but ultimately, if Mings doesn't mess around there they don't even get the chance to score an offside goal. It's the sort of thing that Jon Stones get slaughtered for. Tyrone, unfortunately, has a habit of doing much the same.
-
I can accept the decision for Citeh's second goal but not the decision for the first Citeh goal.
-
It was offside whether Mings mis-controls the ball or not because the player was moving towards the ball from an offside position.
-
We need to be careful not to get any red cards after the game here.
-
Of course Mings should have done better but the point is that the ref should have blown as soon as the offside player became active.
It was cheating and I think Smith let him know
-

Utter bollocks, he controlled it and took his time fully in the knowledge that it was offside if the guy challenged him, if Moss wasn't a c**t who repeatedly gives horrendous decisions against us no one would be blaming Mings for taking his time when he should've had plenty of it. By blaming him, as many on here have, you just defend Moss.
-
I can accept the decision for Citeh's second goal but not the decision for the first Citeh goal.
That's my view.
VAR is a fucking farce.
-
That fat ****** does us every time he takes a game of ours, the whole thing stinks
-
Blaming Mings for being tackled from behind by someone a mile offside is a bit off
Totally agree, Mings get such a hard time on here. He got challenged by a player coming from behind him, add to that the conditions and the pitch tonight. Give the guy a break.
-
Premier league claiming Mings chesting the ball played Rodri onside.
What a load of......
-
Can we now please put Jon fat ****** Moss in the same category as Kevin Twat Friend marked "Never allowed to ref Villa again due to repeated gross incompetence and bias"
-
I am blaming Mings for shit ball skills at that juncture. Watch it again.
-
the citeh player didn’t reset so the phase of the game didn’t move on so either way it was offside (catch or control it). But I guess he should have had a shout or been more aware. I think Mings makes a few errors a game but this not being offside makes 0 sense to me
-
Either so inept they should never officiate again or outright corrupt. It's one or the other. There is no excuse with VAR for missing such an obvious decision. Fucking disgraceful.
-
A deliberate play on the ball means he's no longer offside. He was offside the moment the ball was played forward. The flag should have gone up before Mings played the ball.
-
Savage is cumming in his pants because they seem to have found a rule to explain why the goal should have stood.
He can't hide his excitement.
-
How can it be fuckimg deliberately done when he gets fucking tackled by a ****** in an offside position?!
Fuck off you corrupt ******
-
Wonder how long it took them to work out a way of making a vindication of a Moss decision
-
The decision does not make any sense but Tyrone should be dealing with it.
-
The Premier League is determined to find a way for the Big 6.
How could Cash get out of the way of Jesus's header too? He misheaded it.
Don't worry City. Jon Moss'll do the business for you. Filthy bastard.
-
VAR comes to the aid of one of the faves shocker, ******
-

He's such an embarrassing pundit. He's so anti Villa, its a joke, just because he played fir Blues, pmsl. Hardly Carragher or Neville sticking up for their teams.
-

They've got themselves so tied up with stupid rules, common sense has gone completely out of the window.

[This makes the most sense. Can anyone reference a game where a similar passage of play resulted in a goal? Rio Ferdinand just said no player on the pitch would be aware of that rule! ]
-
The decision does not make any sense but Tyrone should be dealing with it.
But how could Mings deal with it when a player is snapping all over his ankles from an offside position?
-

Absolutely and it would have done pre VAR....ex ref made some kind of bizarre justification of the decision, "player not deemed to have gained an advantage" Mings chested the ball into his path ffs...dreadful defending though it must be said. Another unforced error from Mings costing us a goal, nearly got an o.g. a few minutes before.
Rode our luck plenty of times during the game but a sickener to lose to that goal in the end. We had nothing left in the tank to get an equaliser, subs made no impact. Hard to be too critical today as some players like Barkley were unsurprisingly miles of the pace. Our right side defensively continues to be a problem, the reverse of last season. Cash needs to be a bit braver I think in going to the player quicker. Backing up into his box far too often and very little support from Traore. Was the wrong call from Smith to select Traore tonight, he didn't look up for it from the first minute.
Martinez 8, Cash 4, Konsa 7, Mings 6, Targett 8, Luiz 6, McGinn 5, Traore 4, Barks 4, Jack 7, Watkins 6. Subs Ramsey 5, AEG 5, Taylor 5

Savage tried to explain it all away but to be fair to Rio Ferdinand he wasn't having any of it.
-
The decision does not make any sense but Tyrone should be dealing with it.
Or leaving it to go by him. The flag would've gone up then.
-
What would have occurred if Ming's had caught the ball, rather than played it?
-
The decision does not make any sense but Tyrone should be dealing with it.
Or leaving it to go by him. The flag would've gone up then.
He knew that the player was there and he knew he was offside. He was just not expecting to be tackled by him. Even if he did get tackled he's expecting him to be given offside. We've been robbed here make no mistake.
-
Having had another look, I was harsh on Mings. That was a horrible decision and the fact that VAR has not corrected it says all I need to know about VAR. We may well have lost the game anyway, but by giving that goal it changed everything. How is the system allowed to stay in place as it currently stands?
-

Exactly how I see it and exactly why the pathetic attempt to justify it is so annoying.
-
Some thoughts:
1. Being beaten is the result that most people would have expected if this had been our opening match.
BUT
2. It's not the result was 100% expected this morning given our form thus far.
3. Our COVID layoff has affected our general fitness and match fitness.
4. Guardiola took off De Bruyne and Sterling, which tells you something about our general effort.
5. It took an(other) iffy decision to give them the lead.
6. Defensively a pretty good performance, but we're lacking the killer instinct up front - does Ollie need a rest? Should we/can we strengthen?
7. On the balance of play - possession/chances/shots etc. Citeh were the better team and had we been beaten by a couple of decent goals, then I could accept the result.
BUT given the utter shiteness of Moss's decision - and where was the lino's flag?, then I'm mightily pissed off.
Lots of positives to take.
Don't think we had this down as a win, but on to Newcastle - we need to bounce back and show Bruce how the game is played.
-
I guess that the rule is unclear but if that was a penalty then so was the one at the other end. Mings is a class player prone to stupid mistakes.
-

Totally. It's utter bollocks that an offside can come down to how good a defender's touch is.
-
If the roles had been reversed there’s not a chance in hell the goal would have been allowed to stand.
-
That decision to allow the first goal was utterly diabolical. As soon as the City player headed the ball forward from midfield the flag should have gone up or the whistle blown for offside, as there was clearly a City player in a position to gain advantage from being in an offside position.
As someone else has inferred, what was Mings supposed to do? Catch the ball? Drop to the floor as if struck by a sniper's bullet? Wave for offside ala Adams and Bould in the 1990s? Or try to control on his chest a ball coming down from height, at an awkward angle with, by now, some little fucker about to snap at his heels?
